They are both clearly shady guys and together they shared this path in a sense, maybe a really long time ago, when both were about 20 years old. Another idea of mine that at birth Willy Mack wasn't called Willy is also well woven in here. he changed his name. and before the change, it was pineapple that was the first to call him Willy. Most likely, pineapple also had a pseudonym. He and Willy know each other's real names, but they never call each other by them. Previously, it was a relationship built on deep trust and respect (although it sometimes looked like they were ready to tear each other apart).

one time Willy lost his composure and perhaps the first person killed was one of pineapple’s relatives/someone important to him. not on purpose. but it felt like a complete vile betrayal.
