It's actually depressing to do things in your own time, way and opinion. Mostly because people often disagrees with you and they prefer to do what's more popular now, and if you don't follow the trend, you're just a weirdo trying to fit in. A block in a jigsaw puzzle. But don't let it bring you down. There are still people who will accept you for who you are.

I'm not the first to mention this, but one bit that I thought was really clever in Steven Universe is the ways in which the show subtly justifies the cartoonism of the principle cast always wearing the same outfit for ease-of-animation purposes. The gems are a gimme in that they're all hardlight-projections, and even before that's solidified as a plot point they're otherworldly and superheroic enough that you don't really think to question it. But Steven canonically just owns hundreds and hundreds of those star shirts, which are leftover merchandise from his father's fizzled-out career as a rock star. Into which you can read a whole bunch of other stuff if you really want to, right? And I do want to. It's reflective of Greg's misplaced optimism that he got hundreds of those made in the first place, and it's a benign but visible example of how Steven's life is shaped by the knock-on effects of decisions his parents made before he was even alive. He's got his mother's superpowers and he's wearing his father's shirts.

I know the animation industry has been going through a serious rough patch in the past 10 years. I just hope the medium and the artists making it can get the respect they deserve someday soon. So I wanna take a moment to spread a reminder of the powerful emotional scenes we've gotten from animation in the past 10 years.

Zoro in episode 3:
Zoro in episode 5:
Zoro doesn’t dispute being Luffy’s first mate — because of course, he doesn’t; at this point in the story he is already devoted to following Luffy even if he hasn’t declared it yet — but when it comes to actually acting as the first mate, he needs to be told what to do. So he asks Luffy if he is okay and doesn’t actually ask about Garp and that’s it. To put it differently, he is the first mate but only in name.
Zoro in episode 7:
The possibly most integral part about Zoro’s character is that he is a man of honor and a man of his word. So after declaring his undying loyalty to Luffy, he is no longer just the first mate in name but also in his actions. This time, he doesn’t need to be told to follow Luffy, he does it on his own and without hesitation. He doesn’t ask Luffy any empty questions either but simply stands by his side. He gets ready to leave again at one point but that’s the exact moment Luffy takes to open up — because he does need Zoro there with him and of course, Zoro stays. As far as the actual conversation goes, Zoro gently questions if Luffy is doing the reasonable thing but Luffy trusts his own intuition and knowing how well that served him before, the matter ends here for Zoro. He trusts Luffy and his course of action.
Luffy really said “I need you, Zoro” and Zoro in turn vowed to stand by his side forever. And he does; he honors his word.
"𝙈𝙔 captain"
seeing posts/content about “zoro and luffy’s last meeting” almost makes me laugh sometimes bc what exactly do we think is going to happen……..zoro is going to be the worlds best swordsman, luffy is king of the pirates, and they just look at each other, shake hands, and say “ok see ya!” not only does this negate the fact that the whole point of being a pirate to luffy is freedom and his FRIENDS (he doesn’t want to adventure alone), and zoro has gone from a lone wolf to pack protector. the only thing that could potentially separate them is death and even then I’m pretty sure zoro would March into the afterlife and drag luffy back by the scruff of his neck
I’m not taking criticism. I’m right.
⚔️👒 Hm!? ???
the zoro-being-good-at-math-while-luffy-barely-knows-what-two-plus-two-equals-to trope is actually canon yall
do you ever think about how zoro doesnt have his own dedicated arc? how he is introduced in the same arc as luffy, the main character? how luffy, upon hearing his name, seeks him out and finds him, zoro, someone who is known for being constantly lost? how he decides that now that he has zoro, the rest of the crew will join as they go, it will happen naturally, that everything will be fine as long as he has zoro? how he wasnt a captain until zoro wasnt his crew man, his first mate, his? and at the same time, zoros story's stagnant, doesnt pick up, doesnt progress, how it almost ends before it could really begin if it wasnt for luffy? how theres no conflict in him joining, no internal fight- just pure acceptance, the matter-of-factly belief and unbelievable devotion within seconds? how their dreams are instantly intertwined, one making the other even more possible together, together?
