Hello! I have loved your blog for years and have thoroughly enjoyed reading your mclennon posts..I was wondering what your thoughts were about the cherry bomb incident at the Memphis coliseum in 1966..I believe there is a quote from either John or Paul saying that they were worried that the other was shot đ
Yes Iâve read this story many times and there are various versions. According to the Beatles, it was definitely a bomb. But according to Beatles fans who attended the event, it wasnât really a cherry bomb but a firecraker, and it wasnât thrown on the stage but near the stairs of the stage.Â
I think The Beatles believed it was a bomb because they were focused on playing and singing and they saw this fire and then the explosion which happened close to the stage, and they were a bit upset, also because it was the period of the âbeatles bigger than jesusâ controversy with strong Anti-Beatles feelings in America, fans burning their vinyls on the streets and many protests,...so there was tension at Beatles concerts. And that firecracker might have been a consequence of that turmoil.
I remember that John revealed in an interview that when the âbombâ exploded they suddenly looked at each other to check they were fine. Some Beatles fans who have attended the concert also reported that Paul suddenly looked at John to check if he was alright. â¤

JOHN LENNON + PAUL MCCARTNEY 1964, Australia
I've been slowly reading Paul McCartney's Lyrics and came up short at the image he doodled in his notebook after the words for one of the last songs the Beatles recorded:
Four hearts linked by the same arrow.
Genuinely surprised if you haven't come across these quotes from the following YouTube videos yet: "The woman who saved Paul McCartney | 60 Minutes Australia" @6:25 & "Paul McCartney sets record straight on relationship with Lennon | Parkinson Interview 12 Oct 1997" @22:20. Seems to me like Paul's literally admitted he's not straight already and I'm living for it even if it flew under the radar
âDid he love you?â
âYeah, I think he did actually. It wasnât a spiky relationship at all, it was very warm, very close, and very loving.....homosexuality was still largely illegal sure...but then the business came and the lawyers arrived...â

real talk paul mccartney is such a resilient guy if my mum died when i was a teenager and then my manager died at the peak of my fame forcing me to take a leadership position that all my bandmates/brothers would hate me for and then leave me and write songs talking shit about me and then my closest friend/songwriting partner/ex lover was shot outside his home and then my beloved wife and other musical partner died relatively young (of the aame disease that killed my mum) and then my baby brother died a couple years later (also of cancer) i wouldnt even be a recluse i would just kill myself.
Paul: I'll be overpowering this time
John (joking but serious): oh good. I like it when you're brutal
I think the last line is, âNow we will start as friendsâ. Which makes sense, as I always heard the song as a reply to Dear Friend. Itâs the same tempo, the same melancholic tone and he answers the question, âIs it really true?â with the opening line, âYou know itâs trueâ. I was always a bit on the fence with McLennon, but I think the line, âIâm still in love with youâ settles it actually. Itâs official now, and in the end, they let John say it to the world, which seems fitting.
Thank you! âwe will start as friendsâ hinting to "Dear Friend" is really interesting! There are quite a lot of years between the songs, but I can clearly see the conversation in the lyrics: Dear friend, what's the time? Is this really the border line? And if I make it through It's all because of you
Does it really mean so much to you? Are you afraid, or is it true? I know itâs true itâs all because of you (I'm still in love with you)
Dear friend, throw the wine I'm in love with a friend of mine If we must start again well we will know for sure that I love you (that we will start as friends)
Are you a fool, or is it true? Are you afraid, or is it true? I don't wanna lose you, oh no Abuse you or confuse youÂ
