Eddie: cheating on his girlfriend with his dead wife’s doppelgänger and lying to Buck about it

it's the fact that taylor and margaret and bobby all tell buck that he's not invincible or indestructible and he knows that. he knows that. he knows he can be killed, that he could die. they're not telling him anything he doesn't already know. he knows that, and still (and so) he does the reckless, self-sacrificing thing.

but eddie tells him he's not expendable. and that is what buck didn't know. buck's not some idiot who doesn't understand he's risking his life - he's an idiot who thought his life was worth less than anyone else's. and eddie knew that. and eddie proved he was wrong.

So we've got

- New, more progressive network

- Showrunner change (aka the Buddie hater is gone)

- Tim posting a bunch of Buddie stills on his facebook before the season even started airing

- ABC choosing Oliver and Ryan to do most of the promo stuff and mostly together

- This picture (just the fact that they took one just the two of them)

- So many interviews talking about Buck and Eddie's relationship

- A bunch of quotes from Ryan including: "we get closer than ever this season", "there's a lot of changes in the relationship", "we're trying to give the audience what they want", "the writers have taken note"

- Tim's use of "right now"

- Tim talking about Tommy as if he's not sticking around forever

- The underlying sexual tension line

- The "you're not planning on jumping ship are you?"

- Eddie being so involved in Buck's self discovery storyline (even when it's indirectly)

- Family Feud???

- Buck being canonically bi

And I'm not supposed to think Buddie is going canon??

the fun thing about eddie diaz is that i can make any of his storylines gay and i don't even have to try that hard. marrying his first girlfriend because he got her pregnant and the church says it's the right thing to do? gay. being in the army? gay. repression? gay. obviously. moving to LA? gay. he's from texas. what cishet texan is going to california? exactly. none. gay. never emotionally committing to women? gay. strained relationship with his parents who had expectations for him he's never going to meet? gay. growing up going to catholic school? so deeply gay in so many ways. wanting to feel normal again? this one was actually just trauma. perhaps a little gay though. having cardiac issues because someone assumed his longterm girlfriend was his wife? just start saying slurs at that point. gay. co parenting with another man? gay. not actually being with him? somehow gayer......pining and yearning are famously known for being homosexual emotions. don't even get me started on feeling like he has to perform on dates. homosexual behavior eddie diaz. fork found in kitchen some might say. fruit found in fruit bowl? whatever

calling buddie shippers mlm fetishizers is crazy when we've been rooting for them, their friendship, and loving their trust in each other and their family dynamic with chris for 6 years. if anything... you know what, I'm gonna stay quiet 🤐

Been seeing a lot of negativity towards Eddie and Buddie lately. Please like or reblog this if you still ship Buddie and know Buck and Eddie are meant to be each other’s endgame person.

I don't often do this, because I try to avoid discourse in fandom and sometimes you just don't vibe with a character. It happens.

But I keep seeing these horrible and, quite frankly, very wrong and disrespectful takes on Eddie Diaz' character. And I can't just sit here and ignore them anymore.

I cannot and will never understand why people don't like Eddie.

I've read some posts and comments earlier about people disliking Eddie and... really? Eddie is boring? He doesn't get interesting storylines? He's just a prop for Buck and his storylines?

Are we watching the same show here?

Eddie is, by far, one of the most interesting characters on 911. The man has had one trauma after the other piled up on him, but still he keeps going. Why? Because of the one thing that matters more to him than life itself: Christopher.

As a single mother myself, I can relate. The struggle to want to give your child everything, to do everything for them, even if it comes at the cost of your own mental and emotional well-being? It is very real. I cannot tell you how many times I end up crying to myself at night, blaming myself because I wasn't able to stop the outside world from hurting my son. And you have to do it all by yourself as well. There is no one there to share the burden with, to share the heartache with. It's tough and it's real.

Eddie's storylines are intricate and nuanced and based in reality. They aren't necessarily the biggest and loudest storylines, but they still matter to people who can relate to him. People like me.

Now, 911 is guilty of showing a lot of important Eddie moments from someone else's point of view. That is true. Especially Buck's POV. The shooting comes to mind, even a part of his breakdown and more recently Eddie's friendship with Tommy. He made a bro-friend and seemed so happy and carefree, but since we saw it from Buck's POV, we can't fully trust this image.

So, I think that is why some people see him as just a prop in Buck's story. But it's much more complex than that. Buck stepped inside Eddie's world without complaint. He helped him out from day one by introducing Eddie to Carla. For the first time, Eddie is no longer alone in life. There is someone there who understands him and his love for Chris. He can safely rest and trust that Buck will be there to step in if necessary. He actually went ahead and put it in his will. Eddie loves the way that Buck loves his son. And the show is still using that bond to date. We saw Buck and Eddie in conversation about Chris, Buck talking to Chris, Buck being jealous of Chris thinking Tommy was cool...

I don't know what the future will bring for Eddie, but I desperately want and need him to be happy. And yes, I do think the narrative will eventually lead him to Buck. His happiness has always been intricatelly linked to Christopher. The way they keep weaving in Christopher in Buck's storyline? The way Eddie keeps being inserted in Buck's bisexuality storyline? These are some of the many reasons that give me absolute certainty that Buddie is in the works.

In conclusion? Just stop hating on Eddie Diaz folks. It's not a good look on you.

I don’t want buddie because it would be hot to watch them make out or have sex or whatever bullshit some fans clearly wanted all along. I don’t want surface level lust for buddie.

I want them holding hands and being casually affectionate. I want them waking up in the morning together and eating breakfast as a family and taking Christopher to school together. I want pet names and prolonged eye contact and gentle smiles. I want them having tough conversations and disagreeing but still coming to a compromise because they love each other and value what they have together. I want Christopher calling buck dad and for them to have little inside jokes and have him bragging to his friends about having not one, but TWO firefighter dads. I want them defending one another against their parents and their massive expectations and their unwillingness to change even in the face of the long lasting pain they’ve inflicted on their children. I want them sharing their trauma and helping with pt exercises and talking about chronic pain. I want a wedding and more kids and a long lasting relationship that’s built on mutual respect and friendship and understanding.

I don’t just want sex or make out scenes.

I want romance. I want love.

Thinking about how Eddie is a deeply silly man who has been forced into always being the responsible one. Thinking about How Buck is someone who longs to be taken seriously but is always treated like he's immature or irresponsible. Thinking about how Buck gives Eddie the freedom to be his most ridiculous and how Eddie trusts Buck with his most serious responsibilities and problems.

Eddie Diaz immediately sending his sweet angelic perfect baby child to therapy when christopher is struggling and then turning to fucking street fighting when he’s the one struggling is the epitome of eddie’s character
