Ezor's hand was cold against her own.
The bubbly female General had never been afraid to touch her, despite the destructive potential of her magic. And while Narti would've preferred staying in, she allowed Ezor to pull her to her feet for a night of festivities.
Denying the happy trilling of her heart.
A young Muslim ballerina wants other girls like her to know they can make a change — no matter their beliefs or the clothes they choose to wear.
Stephanie Kurlow converted to Islam with her family in 2010. Sadly, her conversion led to her feeling the need to give up ballet. She wanted to wear her hijab to dance classes in the southwest suburbs of Sydney, Australia, where she lives with her family, but she couldn’t find a school who would accept her.
“All I want is to share the beauty of the amazing ballet art form and inspire other young people who maybe don’t feel so confident to follow their dreams due to the outfits they wear, religious beliefs or lack of opportunities,” Kurlow told Mashable Australia. “I want these young people to have opportunities, young people who think it’s not possible to make their dream a reality because of the pressure from the many phobias and racism in our society.”
Kurlow has been dancing since she was 2 years old, and desperately wanted to be a professional ballerina. She started a crowd-funding campaign to try to make her dream a reality — and to help other young people who feel like they can’t pursue their endeavors without discrimination.
“In this day and age there is a lack of facilitation for youth who are disengaged or of a different religion or race,” Kurlow wrote in the campaign description. “I plan on bringing the world together by becoming the very first Muslim ballerina so that I can inspire so many other people to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.”
Kurlow is trying to raise $10,000, which she states is to cover her tuition, supplies and competition entry for one year. She believes if she receives the right training she can pass on her knowledge and skills to girls who have the same aspiration. Once she trains, she hopes to open a ballet school to cater to a diverse group of ballerinas.
“I want to become a professional ballet dancer and receive my qualifications so that I can open a performing arts school that caters to children and young people of different faiths, races and backgrounds,” she said. “I believe that one day all children and young people will have an opportunity to perform and create, without sacrificing their values, beliefs or looks and my campaign is one step closer to achieving this.”
They are big plans for a 14-year-old, but she says the project is also to raise awareness about issues many people in our society still face. Her initiative follows in the footsteps of her mum, Alsu, who opened a performing arts academy in the Sydney suburb of Bankstown that teaches ballet, martial arts and aboriginal art classes to the local community.
No matter if she achieves her goal, Kurlow is happy to add her voice to the discussion. “I don’t want people to be seen for the clothes they wear, I want them to be seen as the person they are and how they want to change the world,” she said.

Lotor had never cared for birds. Small, stupid little things that never seemed to avoid such blatant decoys. Be it plastic or stuffed bait, birds would fall upon them. Thinking them family. She reminded him of a bird in that sense. Small and quick, yes. But stupid? Not at all. The Green Paladin of Voltron was a force to be reckoned with. Her intellect deadlier than any weapon she could ever wield. But that's not why she reminded the Galran Prince of a bird. Oh no. It was that undying kinship. Lotor had stumbled upon her searches for a man he could only assume was her brother. It was that near-reckless willingness to find him that reminded Lotor of a bird. A bird that could be caught. The Galran Prince had simply manipulated the data she would find to lead her into a trap. So eager she was! Disregarding her teammates warnings. Flying straight into the fire. And the sight of the Green Lion being shot out the sky should've...fulfilled Lotor in some vital way. But it didn't. The Lion fell from the sky. Crashing unto the land. Like a fallen star. A dead, decaying creature that was once full of life. Naturally, Lotor tracked the metal carcass down to make sure the Green Paladin was captured and secured. Alive. He had wanted her alive. He had wanted to hear that bird-like heartbeat slamming against her rib cage as he closed upon her. He had wanted to see the fear in her eyes. Not this. Not the lower half of her small body pinned down under the Lion's control panel. Bones, nerves, muscle all flattened and crushed to a pulp. Not the tree branch skewering her stomach. Bile and blood at war with each other underneath Lotor's boots. Alive. He had wanted her alive. He wanted her blood pumping and heart hammering. He didn't want this. He didn't want her head at that angle. Looking up at him in such a way that made it oblivious that her last moments had been far from peaceful. Gold eyes dull with Death. An arm outstretched. But to reached what? It took Lotor some time, but he found it. A ways away from the wreckage of the Green Lion. A small, seemingly insignificant thing really. A photo. One with a girl and boy. The boy Lotor instantly recognized as the rebel he had baited the Green Paladin with. But the girl? She was lovely. Willowy and small, beaming in the burnt, bloody photo. Hair long and beautiful. Gold eyes shining. Lotor's legs gave out as he went back to the Green Paladin's corpse. The realization taking a hold of him feeling not unlike drowning in fire. This mangles corpse. This small woman. This enemy to his empire. She had once been this girl. She had once been a beautiful creature with the promise of the future in her eyes and a body barely strong enough to cling to her brother properly. Lotor looked toward the corpse. And understood. He finally understood birds. With they're yearning to be with those they love, they're willing to risk it all. If only they can get a last embrace, a last spot of warmth. Only to be struck to the ground. But even bloody and broken, birds still cry. Cry for their kin, not knowing their fake, but still HOPING. Lotor looked at the bloodied woman. And wanted to cry. Birds! Stupid, stupid beautiful birds. He looked to the woman who had died in agony but still yearned for her brother more than anything, and all Lotor could do was clench his eyes shut and look away. Maybe he had been wrong about this woman. She wasn't as smart as he gave her credit for. No, no. This girl truly was a stupid bird. Caught up in a lions' game.

He’s drunk, was Pidge’s first thought.
But no, Lotor looked perfectly focused as he ushered her out of the gala and into an isolated balcony. She didn’t say anything at first, the look on his face was telling enough. But curiosity and concern eventually won out in the end.
“Lotor! What are you-“
“What are we Pidge?” The question jarred her. Shocked her to a stop as they stood at the balcony’s entrance. Pale yellow moonlight shining through the open space. Turning Lotor’s silver hair a tawny gold and he stared at her.
Only an arm’s reach away.
She didn’t know how to answer. She, Katherine ‘Pidge’ Holt, was at a loss for words for once. Gazing up into Lotor’s nightlight eyes. Trying to put her feelings into words.
Trying to explain how she felt.
Make no mistake, the Galran Prince could drive her crazy sometimes, but in the short time Pidge has known him…he…he had endeared himself to her.
Crazy as it sounds.
But Pidge found his silent, thinking nature to be a great comfort. He never pushed and shoved his way into knowing more about her. Content with her secrets. He respected her opinion, looking at her like she was exactly his equal.
Exactly the person he wanted by his side.
How could Pidge ever respond to something like that? How could she ever find the words to describe the way her heart raced when she looked into his eyes as he thanked her? Or when he would smile wolfishly whenever he was about to tease her? Or how his touch, cold-blooded skin and all, sent shivers up and down her spine like signal waves? How could she describe that?
How could she tell him that?
“Or am I the fool here? Am I the only one who cares what we have between u-”
“I care!” Pidge cried, casting her eyes down. She felt as if the ground was crumbling underneath her feat. Of course she wanted to have something more with Lotor, but what they were doing…were they going too fast? Was what they were doing really-
Lotor kissed her.
A hard, passionate kiss that made Pidge’s head spin. Throwing every thought that didn’t pertain to the Galran Prince’s lips on her’s out of her head. Both too far gone in a fascination with the other to think or act rationally. Breaking for air only when it was absolutely necessary.
Lotor looked at her.
All tangled up in his arms. Warm, lively body around his own. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Had you asked the Galran Prince a month ago what he wanted most in life, he would’ve answered that his father’s throne was his only goal.
But not anymore.
Pidge looked at him.
Looked him with those big gold eyes of her’s. Always so sharp and attentive…now soft. Soft just for him. Ah, he was doomed.
Doomed to be destroyed by her hands.
Pidge could only hold his face in her hands as Lotor looked like he wanted to laugh. Laugh in a crazy, broken sort of way as he looked down at her. Entrapped in his arms. He bent his head to whisper to her. Silver hair making a makeshift curtain for the two of them. Eyes soft.
"You'll be the death of me."
