With the second day at Pandora over, the soldiers documented their experiences of what they saw and felt while driving an avatar for the first time. It wasn't anything as detailed as a scientist would describe with the technical names of the neural connection between bodies or something. It was simple. They described it as an experience that couldn't be expressed with enough words or an experience that would blow anyone's mind. They called it a day and proceeded to fall into the arms of Morpheus.
The next day, the routine began like the previous one, they got up, took a bath and went to the cafeteria to eat.
But they never expected that after eating they would be directly called by a pilot to follow them to an area that they are already more familiar with from their years in the army, proclaiming that the colonel wanted to see them.
The woman introduced herself to them as Trudy, detailing that by orders of who they were going to see, she would be the designated pilot for the expeditions that involved them.
"You guys are packing some heavy gear." Jake commented as he saw the ammunition that was being loaded into the Samsun that she indicated as hers.
On the other hand, Eli was looking around, almost feeling nostalgic. Comfortable in his environment, but that did not bring him the best feelings. The last time he was in a place like this was when he presented his resignation letter caused by the disaster on his last mission. The same mission that almost took his life.
He felt a shiver run down his spine as he remembered it.
"Yeah. That's 'cause we're not the only thing around out there. Or the biggest." Trudy replied, with a small tone of amusement at the end. "I need you as gunners. Protocol generally asks me to take 2 soldiers for 1 scientist, but we are short staffed. You would be a lot of help tomorrow."
Eli turned to look at the woman with surprise, but a hint of relief. He wasn't cut out for science and he had to confess that he missed the adrenaline. So much time without being a Marine is already starting to take its toll on him. "Do they really have weapons but enough for avatars?" Eli asked.
Trudy gave him a toothy smile. She almost felt like she was seeing a child after being told that there are going to be gifts for Christmas. "You'd be surprised what toys the RDA can make. Fill out an application saying it's to improve mission performance and they'll give you whatever you want."
Jake nodded in satisfaction. Even if his avatar body was not his own, the idea of entering a hostile forest unarmed only to experience his death firsthand was not the best of ideas. "Well then, you can count on us." Jake said, responding to the request made a few seconds ago. Eli nodded.
"Perfect. I'll see you tomorrow then." She ended the conversation by stopping in front of a slightly more private section among all the mess caused by the army. She pointed to a man exercising in the corner. "There's your man. See you on the flight line." As a last act, she bumped fists with them to say goodbye.
Both soldiers approached the boss, stopping at the metal frame of the security-like cage created for those who wish to exercise and remain out of danger from the rest of the machinery in the place. "You wanted to see us, Colonel?"
"This low gravity'll make you soft…" the colonel began to speak while still doing the bench presses. His voice came out slightly with difficulty due to the effort of speaking and lifting weight. "You get soften…" to give more drama to the moment, Quaritch roughly put the weights in its place, sat up and looked them in the eyes very seriously. "Pandora will shit you out dead with zero warning."
Eli mentally snorted. He had already heard a lot about how dangerous the planet is, but no one had told him how good it could be and he is beginning to believe that someone ordered them to specifically tell them that just to scare them. To mess with the rookies or something like that.
The Colonel stood up and walked until he was in front of them. "You have a lot of courage showing up in this neighborhood." Both soldiers remained silent. The man's tone showed that he was not finished. "You are the best proof that a soldier cannot be defeated… Both wounded in combat and look where you are." Quaritch walked past them and held out his hands for emphasis to show where they were. On the most hostile planet known to man.
"It's just another hell, sir." Jake answered as he turned the chair around.
Quaritch smiled at the attitude. That fearless look is just what he needed to see to continue with his plan. With a nod he indicated for them to follow him. "I was first recom myself. A few years ahead of you. Well, maybe more than a few. Three tours Nigeria, not a scratch. I come out here?…" he turned around walking backwards to point at his scar on the side of his head. "Day one. Think i felt like a shavetail louie? Yeah."
Eli nodded his head, turning to see some soldiers pulling a weapon big enough for the robot suits like the one they were walking to at that moment. A weapon the same size as his body and he bets 3 times heavier.
"Oh, the could fix me up, if I rotated back. And make me pretty again." He paused to climb onto one of the robot's legs and gave it a few strong tugs to test its resistance. Satisfied with the result, he turned back to the couple of friends. "But you know what? I kind of like it. Reminds me every day what's waiting out there."
Before he began climbing the robotic suit, he signaled for the soldiers to ride the elevator next to the suit and stay out of the way.
"The avatar program is a bad joke. Bunch of limp-dick science majors. However..." his voice came out with difficulty as he climbed up the suit until finally falling inside. "It does present an opportunity both timely and unique."
Eli crossed his arms and leaned on one leg to pay attention. The platform he had stood on with Jake finally stopped at the Colonel's level.
"CLEAR." The man shouted as he grabbed the controls of the machine. Someone behind the ex-Marines yelled for them to clear the area. The Colonel pressed the buttons on the panel, satisfied when the engine came to life. "Recon gyrenes in avatar bodies. That's a potent mix. Give me the goose bumps." He said with the slightest laugh in his words. He seemed to find the situation amusing. "Men like that would give me the intel I need, right on the ground. Right on the hostiles' camp" After calibrating the controls to his liking, he turned to the soldiers in a slightly more serious tone. "Listen. I want you to learn these savages from the inside. I want you to gain their trust. I need to know how to force their cooperation or hammer them hard if they won't."
The Colonel's tone did not give room to refute anything, it was directly an order without mentioning that it is an order. Something that neither of them liked. But they are soldiers, they are used to it.
Jake followed up with an important question. "Are we still with Augustin?"
"On paper. Yeah, you walk like one of her science pukes, you quack like one, but you report to me. Can you do that for me lads?"
The newcomers turned to look at each other. One look was enough to know that they both agreed.
"Yes, sir," they both answered instinctively. This loyalty brought a satisfied smile to the superior's face.
"Well, all right, then." With a wave of his glove, the Colonel turned on the robot. He brought his hands to his chest and threw some well-calculated punches, making the suit perfectly imitate his movements.
Jake and Eli backed up a little in the elevator to avoid being hit by accident.
Pleased with the adjustments to his suit, he turned it around to face the former Marines, placing his hands on his waist. Not even his suit seemed to prevent the Colonel from moving with confidence.
"I take care of my own. You get me what I need and you will get what your nation denied you."
The words the Colonel had used had been intentional. He read both of their files in order to not only understand who they are, but to understand how they think. He wants them to know that they are no longer on earth and that under his control he promised to give them more importance.
And they both completely believed it.
"To you Jake." The Colonel began. "I can give you your legs. Your real legs." Mentioning the limbs, the man aimed at Jake's human legs, using the robot. He then turned to Eli. "And to you, corporal. I will make sure that your nation gives you the recognition and apology you deserve. What do you think?"
Both soldiers nodded at the same time and responded. "Yes sir."
"Good." Ending the conversation, he closed the lid of the cabin with his metallic hand, turned around and turned to continue on his way, leaving the two with a lot to think about but only one conclusion.
They have a new mission.

Quick question for the stranger things fic is a self insert fic or is it your own oc?
It’s an OC. I’m not good at writing in second person or as a reader.
I don’t like to leave to many things in general that could be important in the plot, like a name, likes, dislikes and such. Feels like to many limitations.
I like to give the character a solid identity. 😎

A/N: This is another idea that came to mind. Hope to finish this one.
A blond haired woman sighed in exhaustion. After a long day of work she was finally home to her family.
“Hey, I’m back.” She announced sitting by the door and taking off her shoes.
The family’s butler greeted her. “Welcome back home, Mi-“ his greeting was interrupted when a yellow blur flew by him and crash hugged the blonde’s face. That blur was none other than her daughter.
“MOMMY, WELCOME BACK.” Greeted the child with her high pitched voice.
Isao, the girls father, also went to greet her but stared scolding the child for jumping into her already exhausted mother. “Come now, Kikoru. Your mother is to exhausted to-“
Contrary to what he was saying, Hikari took her daughter’s hands and started spinning like a helicopter. “You’ve done it now, gosh darn it!!! Have you been a good girl you little scamp?!” Yelled Hikari with as much enthusiasm as her daughter while the little girl laughed.
Isao refrained himself from saying anything and sighed. He doesn’t understand how can they have so much energy.
“Today, guess what? Guess what? We watched TV in the shelter!” Started saying Kikoru with enthusiasm as her mother stopped spinning to hold her in front of her. “And everyone said you were cool mommy.”
Hikari was surprised for a moment. She knew the kaiju appeared in a city near her daughter’s school but she didn’t expect it to be that close. “No one was hurt?” She asked expectantly.
Kikoru shook her head. “Nope.”
Hikari smiled widely at the information. “That’s great news.” She cheered.
The little girls smile dimmed when she finally noticed something in her mother’s arm, a bandage. “Did you get hurt?” She asked with a hint of worry in her voice while Hikari put her back in the floor.
The woman looked at source of worry of her daughter remembering the moment the kaiju caught her of guard with a sudden burst of power. “Yeah, today’s kaiju was a little strong. But I’m all right.” She assured while lowering the sleeve of her shirt to cover her bandage. She really wanted to keep all the dangerous staff away from her. But Kikoru’s next words showed her it was impossible.
“Mommy.” Said the girl, gaining her parents attention by her sudden seriousness. “I’m gonna join the defense force and I’m gonna save you.”
Hikari shared a surprised look with her husband before smiling. She was really their girl. She kneeled in front of Kikoru and gave her a soft smile and a pat on the head. “Okay then, Kikoru. And when you’re in trouble mommy will save you.” She promised her daughter.
Isao watched the interaction with a small smile. He didn’t know what he did to deserve them. His smile fell once he remembered someone in the second floor waiting for them.
“Kikoru, go wash your hands. Dinner is almost ready.” He instructed the child.
The little blond girl nodded before running to the nearest bathroom, leaving the adults in a somewhat solemn silence.
Hikari looked at her husband before asking. “How is Akira?”
Isao sighed softly, turning and walking to the stairs being followed by his wife. “As well a he can be.” Informed the man with his gravel voice. “He hasn’t stopped watching videos of the defense force fighting Kaijus.”
Hikari smiled slightly at that. Akira has always wanted to learn how to kill kaijus and the boy absorbs information like a sponge. Suddenly her smile dimmed. There was only one thing stopping him from doing it.
Once in the second floor Isao knocked on the big brown door before opening it. “Akira, your mother is here.” He announced.
Hikari breathed deeply before putting on a wide smile in her face. “Where is my handsome boy?” She exclaimed cheerfully as she entered the room.
The boy behind the desk, who was previously watching a hologram of a kaiju, gave her a big smile as his eyes brightened. “Mama.”
The little blond boy pushed himself from the table and moved around the table to greet his mother. Once the desk was no longer in his way Hikari saw a sight that repeatedly breaks her heart. Her son rolling his wheel chair towards her.
She kneeled before her son once he was close and gave him a warm hug. The type only a mother can give.
“I saw the news today. You were awesome mom.” Murmured the boy in his mother’s shoulder.
She released him and put a hand on his cheek, caressing the tiniest of scars underneath his eye. A cut long healed and barely visible. But for her, it could as well have been a big sigh in bold red letters as a reminder.
The day she was to late to protect her precious baby boy.
“Did you think so?” She asked softly.
The blond boy nodded his head eagerly. “I know so.” He affirmed. “Do you think some day I can be as cool as you?”
Hikari widened her smile, ignoring the stabbing pain in her chest and the sting in her eyes. “I know you will.”
Isao watched with well hidden solemnly from the door. It hasn’t been that long since the accident, the regenerative tissue and his young body still have time to heal correctly. The boy just needs a little push.
Nock nock
The nocking in the door brought back General Isao from memory lane. He looked up from the screen of his computer, that displayed a picture of his family when they where still complete, and closed the computer. “Come in” he announced.
From the door came in a young man with blond hair and amber eyes, tall and muscular yet lean. His enforcer suit looks pristine clean, like a car recently cleaned.
The young enforcer carried two suitcases and put them gently on the floor once in front of the desk. The metal of the case clanged quite loudly due to its weigh.
“As requested general Shinomiya.” Informed the soldier standing straight.
Isao paused for a second looking at those eyes similar to his, and most importantly, the tiny scar below the left eye. Only now visible thanks to the rays of sun coming through the floor to ceiling windows.
“Very well.” He said as he stood up, walking around the desk and towards the exit. “Let’s pay a certain kaiju a visit.” The clang of metal was sing enough that the boy was following his steps.
The old man couldn’t help but watched through the side of his eye their reflection in the hall’s windows.
To think that the little boy came this far.
The same boy with round cheeks and big doe eyes now lost al that baby fat, giving a sharp look.
Akira inherited most things from his father. From his height to the way he walks.
And he thought he looked more like his mother when he was a kid.
Talking about kids. They’re about to meet the youngest Shinomiya after months of not seeing each other.
He wonders how much she has grown.

Apocalypse
This is what the elderly people called the approaching age of the earth. Only those with memories of what life was like 100 years ago can agree with the idea.
Forests were cleared and replaced with concrete and metal buildings. The oxygen of the atmosphere was contaminated with carbon dioxide. People going about their day to day became more isolated in their own lives and what was known as mere courtesy to others was lost.
But it wasn't all bad. Science, technology and medicine made unimaginable discoveries that in the past would only be dreams.
This is how in the XXII century, genetic problems were nothing more than a simple matter of paying enough to fix the problem. Physical defects and most of the mental ones were easy to cure. But what happened when they were twins? After the year 2098, when the world declared itself over populated, a new law was declared where women had the right to give birth only once, the number of children that appeared at birth was irrelevant. For people of higher status it was no problem. They only had to choose to keep only one child or easily pay the economic expense of both. But for those without the resources, having twins was like a curse.
That was how Eli and Jonathan Thompson came to the orphanage. A careless mother with no desire to bear the responsibility of two lives left them at the door of an orphanage.
Luckily for the babies, orphanages are under the protection of governments. Their education is paid for and supervised by capable people. But the coexistence between the children is not the best. Fights that lead to loosening teeth are quite common since caregivers only choose to have a job that gives them money, not out of interest in the well-being of minors.
Eli, the older of the twins, grew up defending his younger brother. He wasn't afraid of having to break noses if someone messed with his family. As for his brother, Jonathan, he was a sweet soul, his strength was in his intelligence and his heart in science books. It was normal for the two of them to spend the afternoon together away from the others. While Jonathan reads aloud, Eli pays attention to whatever his brother says. Even though he often finds it hard to understand what he says. He even had to get a dictionary to understand the complex words in the books that his little brother loved.
Growing up was not a problem with the dynamics they had. It was like this, when leaving school, the 13-year-old brothers hit the road to the park to have their precious free time before returning to the orphanage full of children with testosterone to the maximum and desires to hit something to de-stress.
What they did not know was that that same day they would meet 2 other people. Thomas and Jacob Sully.
Another set of twins.
From the first sight, the 4 children were intrigued to meet the opposites. It was normal, twins were not common in a society as strange as the one they live in.
But what was unusual, was seeing how the children found a balance between themselves.
The oldest Sully, a kind-hearted and highly intelligent boy, instantly hit it off with Jonathan's desire for adventure and knowledge attitude. While the youngest of the Sullys, Jacob, found it amusing to have to face the older bother Eli in whatever they can think of. Sports, wrestling, food races, etc. In short, growing up was... interesting.
Difficult, without a doubt, but very interesting. The Sullys changed school to be with their new friends. It was easier that way.
Upon reaching 17, Eli and Jake made the decision to join the military and the other 2 brothers were going to fulfill their dreams by studying at the university in the RDA with the hope of entering the program that would take them to Pandora.
But not everything was going to go so well. Jake was discharged from the military due to a spinal injury that left him paralyzed, Eli opted to leave when there was a problem in one of his missions, which ended with a chest wound and returning with fewer people than they had gone. Jonathan was diagnosed with cancer, one of the few diseases that not even science has been able to cure, but he ended up giving his life in an attempt to save his best friend Thomas. But the result ended in the death of both and his twin brothers having to take their jobs as avatar drivers. Jonathan couldn't even break the news of his brother that he had cancer.
It was like this, that in the year 2149 both soldiers were put in a cryo-sleep with the purpose of taking them to Pandora. The most hostile planet known to man.
After almost 6 years of traveling in space at high speed, finally the ship that the soldiers got on began to slow down.
The scientists in charge of the voyages woke up all the passengers who had been put into a cryo-sleep to save resources and energy during the trip.
One by one, the passengers opened their eyes inside their pods. Two of them in particular are somewhat disoriented by the process. They had only been given a week of preparation to learn things about the journey that usually takes years for others. It was obvious that much of the information had not been given due to time constraints, but the essentials had been learned, and that was what mattered.
Eli blinked a couple of times to dispel that feeling of hangover and exhaustion that he still felt. Having to wake up from a long sleep in zero gravity was not pleasant at all.
Row by row, the pods opened automatically, allowing doctors to check each other's vital signs before unfastening the belts that prevent their bodies from floating out.
"Are we there yet?" Jake asked, still a little confused.
"Yeah, we’re there, sunshine." Answered the doctor who was checking his vital signs. He could tell that he was a little dizzy, but other than that there was nothing out of the ordinary. "Be careful in zero gravity." The man told him as he unbuttoned and continued with the next passenger.
Things were moving fast, they had to overflow everyone in the estimated time. The number of trips in and out of the atmosphere were counted.
"Jake" The soldier who had floated to the lockers turned around seeing his best friend floating in his direction.
He put a smile on his face when he saw Eli's appearance. "Wow. Who kicked you in the balls?" he teased him.
Eli rolled his eyes and huffed. Five years, nine months and two days frozen in capsules and that was the first thing he told him. "Yeah well, it's not like you look better. Have you seen yourself in a mirror?" replied the friend.
Hours and many protocol processes later, both soldiers boarded a large ship with turbines strong enough to go in and out of Pandora's atmosphere.
Their cryo-sleep clothes had been exchanged for simple T-shirts and army pants. Despite not having exercised for a year before the trip, the habit of wearing other clothing was not comfortable for them. They felt better using military clothes.
And as cherry on the cake, now they had to wear some masks that would help them breathe in the atmosphere of Pandora.
Speaking of...
"Exo-packs on! Let’s go! Exo-packs on! Remember, people, you lose that mask, you’re unconscious in 20 seconds, you’re dead in four minutes! Let’s nobody be dead today! Looks very bad on my report." Shouted the official soldier in charge of those who were on the trip. It should be noted that his attitude was so sweet.
Everyone present put on their masks and closed the seals to prevent Pandora's toxic air from leaking through cracks in the mask.
The rattling of the ship was enough of an indicator that they had finally landed. Just seconds later, they all unbuckled their seatbelts and lined up to exit the plane. All except two soldiers.
"What do you think our welcome will be like? Will they have cakes?" Eli said sarcastically as he waited for Jake to pack up to go out. At first Eli helped his friend to do many things after the accident with his legs, but he learned that it was unnecessary. His friend was capable and also he became a curmudgeon when he wanted to help him.
Jake let out a laugh as he sat in his chair and buckled up. "There's only one way to find out."
Eli made a face that he was right. He grabbed his backpack and walked after Jake when they were finally ready.
"Let’s go, special cases, don’t make me wait for you!" the soldier shouted again with an attitude of sweetness.
When leaving, to say that they were impressed by the view was an understatement. Despite the fact that there is a lot of concrete and that it is a cloudy day, there is more natural light than on a normal day on earth. And the trees were so huge that their tops could be seen even over the great concrete walls put up by the RDA.
They were both so in awe of the sight that they had to abruptly move out of the way of a guy in a huge robotic suit that nearly crushed them.
"Careful airheads" Said the offended the soldier inside the suit. But neither of them gave it much thought. A lap dog attitude was common to be found among soldiers. It was a bad way of trying to show superiority.
They barely walked a few more meters when they had to stop again. A bulldozer of out-of-scale passed in front of them, arrows stuck to its wide tires.
Jake and Eli exchanged glances. Confused by what they had just seen. It was obvious someone wasn't happy with the machine, but those things were huge. An arrow seemed to be the size of a person.
The rest of his walk to the barracks was not interrupted by anything else. Upon entering it was the same type of technology found on Earth, only everything looked more scientific.
Finally, after getting lost a few times, the soldiers reached the conference room where the welcoming speech had already started.
"Out there, beyond that fence. Every living thing that crawls, flies or squats in the mud wants to kill you and eat your eyes for jujubes."
'What a good start,' Eli thought as he entered the room and caught part of the speech of the one who hi has been instructed that his name was Quaritch. General Quaritch.
Since the room was full, Eli sat in one of the pews closest to the exit door, with Jake stopping next to him.
"We have an indigenous population of humanoids called na'vi..."
Eli leaned into Jake and whispered. "There's nothing like an old-school safety brief to put your mind at ease." The sarcastic tone was evident in every word.
Jake rolled his eyes and smiled at the reference to the general's less than comforting speech.
After the general's charming speech, both friends left the conference room to continue their way to their rooms. Taking advantage of the time to make some stops and familiarize themselves with the place. They didn't want to end up lost later, it would be embarrassing. Better now and not later.
"Jake. Eli" The attention of the two soldiers was brought to a tall guy who made his way a little clumsily through the people in the hallway, only to seemingly reach them.
"You are Jonathan and Thomas's brothers, right?" Norm asked as he finally reached them. Noticing their confused expressions, he held out his hand to shake him in greeting as he introduced himself. "I'm Norm Spellman."
"You were a companion of our brothers, weren't you?" Eli asked, recognizing the name that was mentioned on more than one occasion during the calls they had. He shook his hand, clearly noting the soft scientific hands.
"Yes yes. Have you heard from me?" He ask with a clear slight nervousness when talking to people who are not scientists. "I hope only good things."
Eli gave him a sly smile before turning and continuing to walk alongside Jake. "Don't worry. He just told us that you vomited the first time you entered a simulation."
Norm stood still in the middle of the corridor, opening and closing his mouth in a vain attempt to defend himself, but the laughter of the soldiers only made it more difficult.
“...into the bio lab." Announced Norm entering through the automatic doors of the place.
Taking advantage of the fact that the soldiers did not know the place, he took the opportunity to give them a tour and maybe be lucky enough to become friends. They will spend the next 6 years together so it was the best choice for him.
"Uh, link… here’s the link room-"
Norm's words faded into the background as the soldiers headed another way. A blue light practically hypnotized them and called them like kites to a spotlight. What intrigued them was not the light, but where it came from.
The huge glass containers that had just been unloaded from the ships were finally ready to be removed from their enormous packaging and connected to the laboratory instruments.
"Hey, welcome." One of the scientists present spoke when he saw us arrive.
He shook hands with Jake who was closer. "Welcome to Pandora. Good to have you"
"Damn. They got big." Jake said in surprise when he saw the bodies inside its capsule. The avatars.
Genetically engineered bodies based on human DNA and the DNA of the natives of the planet.
"Yeah, they fully mature on the flight out." Norm said, just as impressed by what science is capable of. But his surprise didn't take a second to turn into scientific fascination and bring out his brainiac side. "So the proprioceptive sims seem to work really well?"
"Yes, they’ve got great muscle tone."
The soldiers exchanged poker glances seeing how quickly they were forgotten for the sake of science.
With a slight nod, Jake motioned for Eli to follow him to the avatars on the other side of the room.
The closest one was Jake's.
"It has the characteristics of a feline." Eli mentioned as he approached the tank. He turn to look at Jake when he gets no response, just silence.
The younger Sully was in a trance, and Eli knew why. The avatar had the face of his brother. It wasn't strange since they used his DNA to create it, but it wasn't the same for twins. After spending your whole life living with someone who shares your characteristics, you find those little differences that make them unique. But what makes the situation even more strange is finding those features on the face of an alien.
"Looks like him." Jake whispered. He almost seemed to fear that if he raised his tone he might awaken the sleeping creature in its amniotic fluid.
Eli put his hand on his friend's shoulder and gave it a firm squeeze. It was a silent sign that he was not alone.
"Umm. Which one of you is Eli Thompson?"
Both soldiers turned around to meet the scientists. Max, according to the name tag on his robe, looked strangely nervous.
"It's me." Eli answered, raising an eyebrow.
"There is something you should know about your avatar." Max said, slightly lifting the tablet in his hand. "Please follow me"
A bit wary, Eli glanced over his shoulder at Jake. But the uncertainty in his gaze was enough of an answer to know that he didn't know anything either.
Without further ado, he followed the scientist into a glass-walled office that gave him a full view of the lab and avatar tanks.
"What's going on Norm?" Asked the man in the wheelchair to the scientist who looked somewhat insecure in his place.
"They had some problems with Jony's avatar when it came to DNA matching." When mentioning the being, they both turned around to see on the other side of the laboratory how they removed the protective packaging from the last tank of avatars, exposing the aforementioned avatar.
It looked normal. Giant and blue just like the others, with a tail and pointy ears, but nothing different or out of place.
What could be the problem?
“That Jonathan what?" Eli asked. Trying to process the information that is on the tablet and what he had just been told.
"Judging by your reaction…I guess he didn't tell you about his illness." Max said with a sad expression on his face. It didn't seem fair that the soldier found out that his brother had cancer that way. It could have been almost 6 years since his death, but for the one who just came out of the cryo-sleep, to him it is still a few days ago. It hasn't even been a month in the perspective of the soldier.
The silence in the room was thick. Eli still couldn't form a word, he felt trapped in a loop despite hearing how the others kept up with their own rhythm outside that office.
He took a breath of air to remove from his thoughts the gloomy thoughts that overshadowed his ideas and focused on what he had to do. He took the glass tablet and checked the information of his ( in all word extension) avatar.
"So…the avatar has my DNA." Although it was a question, his accent made it sound like a statement. But his gaze didn't take off from the graphics on the object in his hands.
"They were about to remove your brother from the program when they noticed his illness." Max began to telling, his tone almost unsure to follow. The expression on the soldier's face was incredibly serious. "They couldn't use cancer cells to create an avatar. But he gave a sample with your disease-free DNA and appealed to the elders to let him continue." Finally, Eli looked up to see the same empathetic expression on the scientist's face. "His cancer was stage 2 so they would let him stay on the project if he took his meds and got his chemotherapy but..."
Max didn't even have to continue anymore. The idea was clear.
The black-suited socks who came to tell him that his brother was dead were very tactful when telling him.
They needed him for work because the avatar was already completed and they couldn't waste the money invested. The avatar meant that his brother had accepted the deal, but had not even received a dose of medicine before his heart was pierced with lead.
When Max started to feel the silence getting a bit uncomfortable he decided to give him a moment alone. "If you need anything, I'll be outside." He turned to leave the office, but two steps later he was called.
"That won't be necessary. Let's get done with what needs to be done for today. Allow time for pity later" Eli said. He hand over the tablet, shoving it into the scientist's chest as he walk towards the door.
Max winced, both from the blow and from the man's heavy words. "O-Okay."
With nothing else to say, they headed off to continue the tour. The most important part was still missing.

They called him "The sun and moon's love child"
Amaterasu, goddess of sun, and tsukuyomi, god of the Moon.
Born from non-sorcerers parents and during a total eclipse, the town where he was born easily noticed the new addition in the small place. But what made the news spread like wild fire was the baby's appearance.
Born from a brown haired mother and a black haired father, the child appeared with red flaming hair. And the moment he opened his eyes everyones breathe hitched. Gray almost white eyes like milk with a crescent withe moon 🌙 underneath the pupil almost surrounding it. Eyes that seemed to glow even in darkness.
The birth of the child brought great expectations. And the most religious people ironically considered him as the chosen one. The reincarnation of their God. The one they have been expecting for years.
The child became the messiah of the town. The family became rich from all the people coming to seek guidance even from a baby or just the opportunity to see him. And the jujutsu world took notice of the event.
The elders of the jujutsu world kept an eye on the baby for the first two years but lost interest when they realized that the kid was not especial in any way. The people where the only ones that belived so.
At first everyone in the town was delighted with the child. He brought prosperity to the town, wealth and recognition. But not everyone agreed with the idea. Those who didn't like a child basically having everyone trapped around his little finger stared spreading rumors. False rumors of the devil hiding in sheep's clothes.
Little by little, people believed those rumors to be true and the town divided in two. Those who believed in the messiah and those who thought him the to be the devil.
Everything got worse when in one of his walks with his 'servant', the child of 8 years stoped with his veré hands a fast rolling cart from hitting a younger girl in the middle of the road.
Every possibility left of the kid being normal was thrown out the window and the people believing him to be the devil were enraged.
They decided to act before the child could gain any more strength.
In a normal night were the people of the town slept peacefully, the 8 year old child laid wide awake on his futon. He had a bad feeling. Like something was about to happen.
His hunch was proven right the moment his 'servant' (someone he considered a Nani and a better parental figure than either of his parents) came barging in his room with urgency only to halt on the doorway by a katana piercing through her chest from behind.
Moon eyes open wide in horror watched everything and every ditail posible. From the fear in her eyes to the katana moving in slow motion towards him ready to cut his own head off his shoulders.
He doesn't know how but the next thing he knows he's in the middle of a burning old traditional Japanese house. The flames danced fiercely around him but none burned him like they did to all those in the house with the intention to kill him.
The survival of the child scared most of the residents in the town. None of the killers survived. His parents didn't survive. The servants didn't survive. No one but him lived.
Fearing the rage of the powerful child the elders looked for a way to take the childe away from the town and free them from the anomaly.
Looking everywhere they found a contact that assured them they had a way to take the problem from their hands. Unknown to them, the contact was none other than Nanami Kento, a student from jujutsu highschool, and he had just the right thing in mind.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
"Ugh. Why am I here, sensei?" asked a very displaced 17 year old, white haired jujutsu student with his hands behind his head. The Tokyo's school principal and his student paced with calm towards their destiny. "I'm a sorcerer not a babysitter."
Yaga sighed heavily. "It's because I consider you the best one to talk to the kid." And to concentrate in something else than getting depressed, he thought.
Not finding anything that could convince his teacher to let him go Gojo grumbled under his breath about how all of this is a waste of time.
Faster than he would have liked, Gojo found himself walking along the halls of a traditional Japanese house, a big one at that, following a non-sorcerer man.
"Has there been a change in the boy?" Asked Yaga, concentrated in the reason they traveled so far.
"None, sir." Answered the man in a clam voice. "Have you come to a veredict about what happened?" He asked.
Yaga nodded once. Since the town didn't have the resources to find an expert forensic and jujutsu technical college was kind enough to send Nanami and Shoko to investigate. "It seems that one of the servants from the Kimura family may have thought that all the members of the family were dead and blew up the kitchen, starting the fire." He said in a calm tone. "That's as accurate as we can be considering most of it was unrecognizable by the fire."
Gojo rolled his eyes behind his shades. Any decent sorcerer would be able to recognize the signs of cursed energy in that place. And considering the damage, the signature of cursed energy they are approaching and knowing the only survivor, the child's probably a second grade or semi-first grade level. But it's not like they can say.
'Hey, did you know that your good for nothing small town produced a stronge sorcerer child?'
Just like always, they have to hide to cursed world from normal people.
"He is in here." Announced the man nodding to the sliding door in front of him. "He is calm boy not really that energetic, so don't expect much. But he is a good kid."
Gojo was slightly surprised by the honesty behind the man's words. After he heard that the elders of the town wanted to get rid of the child he expected hatred from everyone towards the young sorcerer.
Yaga nodded again before turning to Gojo. "Can you keep the kid some company while I talk with Koshi-San?"
The special-grade sorcerer understood the silent message. Yaga had nothing that should be keep private from him, but the reason he dragged him all the way to the town was to talk to the kid. "Hai hai." He answered nonchalantly.
Yaga stared at him for a moment before turning to Koshi. The man understood the 'need' to look for somewhere to talk alone and guided him to another room.
Finally watching them turn around the corner Gojo, grumbling under his breath, slammed the door open. "Hey kid." Announced his presence with a loud voice.
He already expected the boy to flinch and try to stay away from him. It's already happened before. His height, loud voice and sometimes even his eyes scare people away. But he was surprised by what happened.
In the room there lay an unused futon, the child was sitting in the engawa at the other side of the room, leaving the other sliding door open for everyone entering his room to find him watching the backyard. The child didn't move a single muscle nor did he appear to have notice his presence, but Gojo already suspects that the child knew he was there even before he opened the door.
The next thing that happened left Gojo speechless and with a sense of Deja vu. The kid turned his body slightly to the side and turned his head to see the intruder.
The moment the kid reveled his eyes Gojo was brought back to his own childhood (if he could call it that), the same eyes that used to look back at him trough the mirror were looking at him from the child now in front of him. Those light grey and glowing orbs had such an intensity that Gojo feared for a moment his own cursed eyes wouldn't stop the kid from inspecting his soul.
He was like him.
And yet not.
The kid's cursed energy flowed through his body the same way blood did in his veins. But his six eyes could easily see that by the amount of energy alone the kid was already a first grade sorcerer. The only reason Gojo didn't sense it before was because he was suppressing it. He doubts the child is aware of it, or had any kind of training to learn it, and the fact he is doing it unconsciously speaks of innate talent.
"Is there something I can help you with, sir?" Asked the boy in a soft yet firm voice.
Okay, maybe the child wasn't that much like him. Gojo wasn't respectful with others at his age. (Who is he kidding? He isn't, even now as an already grown up man)
Just like with his domain expansion, Gojo processed all his thoughts in a second and made his decision right then and there. He won't let people do to this child what they did to him.
Gojo took off his shades walking towards the boy before lowering himself to the child's level and looked at him in the eyes.
Glowing blue meet slightly surprised glowing light grey.
"Actually, I'm here to help you." He said with a smile in his face. It wasn't smug nor was it fake. It was completely genuine.
"Help me?" Asked the boy rising a red eyebrow. "How?"
Gojo extended his hand prepared for a hand shake. "If you take my hand I can show you."
Completely confused now, the Kimura boy looked at the withe haired's hand then at the owner's eyes. He didn't sense any kind of hostility or deception from the older.
Maybe he was a little naive to believe the stranger in front of him, but a hunch told him to take the hand. Who knows what could happen. Maybe he'll regret it... or maybe he won't. There's only a way to find out.
The moment the read haired boy took the stranger's hand he end up sealing his fate.
Everyone will know the power of the sun goddess and moon god's child's power.
And they'll either respect him or fear him.
Tell me what you think.

In the spiderverse, a place of infinite possibilities, it’s easy to find every kind of people. Different Spider-Mans with different abilities.
There are different variants like Miguel with his claws and fangs, like Hobby with an always present distinction in his movements typical of his dimension, Jessica with her webs that come out of her fingertips and fights on a motorcycle or Margot with her avatar that has a physical and tangible form. Then there are the common variants like Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. But even then, knowing of the possibilities, it was big shock for Miguel, Jess and Peter B. to land on a dimension were everything was huge. It was even more shocking to find the anomaly they were chasing, being pinned down by the big hand of the universe’s Spiderman.
But surprises don’t end there.
The moment he took off his mask in front of the team, every one was left speechless.
“Sooo…” started Jess.
Finally coming out of his shock, Peter smiles watching a young, smiling and fresh face under the mask. “Yep, a new teammate.”
Y/n rises both his eyebrows in slight confusion when both spider people turned towards the bigger guy among them. Because to him, they were all still small. His always been the tall kid in everything, but he totally feels like a giant in front of 3 people standing on an AC engine to stand shoulder height level with him. Basically, they were like 12 inches action figures to him.
Miguel, on the other hand, wasn’t thrilled to the idea of including another hormonal teenager to the society.
“Absolutely not.” he stated, turning his back on them and start messing with the watch.
Peter was the first to start arguing. “Oh come on. Big guy here-“ he said while pointing with his head at the young giant. “handled the anomaly effortlessly. He could totally be a good asset.”
Jess crossed her arms over her almost unnoticeable baby bump. “I agree with Peter in this.”
Miguel sighted turning around. “No. I already let you two persuade me to let Hobbie, Gwen and Pavrit into the society. I don’t need another teenager.” He said, making hand gestures to make emphasis in his point.
“Umm…” the three adults turned to the young boy when he got their attention. “If I may ask. What is this team you are talking about?”
Miguel opened his mouth under his mask to answer but was beaten by Peter. “It’s supper cool. You’re gonna love it kid. We are part of a society that reunites variants of Spiderman from different universes to protect the multiverse.”
“Wait, so- the theory of multiverses is real?” Asked the young one.
Peter, being the science nerd he is, started to explain. “Yeah. Miguel-“ he said, pointing at the líder of the group. “-our boss, leads mostly everything in there. He’s the only Spiderman that’s not funny, but everyone else is, so don’t worry. And it’s incredible to work with the other variants. Entertaining. But you should-“
“It’s not supposed to be fun or entertaining.” Interrupted Miguel with his authoritative voice. “This is serious. The multiverse is under our protection-“
“Ugh, and there you go again.” Complained Peter like a kid. “Killjoy. You keep repeating and repeating the same thing…”
While Peter and Miguel kept discussing the matter at hand like a married couple, Jessica and Y/n shared some glances between them. The younger asking ‘Is this normal?’ with his eyes, to which she replied ‘you have no idea’ with her own look.
Kind of feeling guilty for causing the discussion, Y/n tried to fix it. “It’s not necessary. Besides, I don’t think it would work.” He talked again, gaining the attention of the team. “You seem pretty surprised by my size. Which makes me think that the rest of the dimensions are on a smaller scale. It’ll be difficult or strange for the people in those dimensions to suddenly see a big Spiderman”
Peter turned to Miguel and threw him a bad look. “And now you made him feel bad.”
Miguel made his mask disappear just so Peter could see his offended expression. He can’t be serious, right?
Jess and Y/n felt the need to face palm so hard in that moment.
Long story short, Miguel ended up giving in and accepted the young Spiderman in the society.
The first days were something.
Most were intimidated merely by his height, that is until they all saw the friendly face under the mask when he took it off. But a special gang was the most interested in the newbie. Hobie, Pav and Gwen. The same teenagers Miguel was complaining about. He could understand why, the gang has too much energy for the poor man to handle. That’s why he has taken in to his own hands, the task to entertain the group whenever they are in his office.
Partly he does it so he doesn’t get in Miguel’s bad side and on the other hand, he wants to help the boss whose hate for life seems to grow every passing day.
Other than being busy with the gang, everything else was going perfectly fine.
He was called on difficult missions with Miguel, Jess and Peter B. after checking that the mission site is spacious enough for him to move. Or even leading his own missions with Gwen, Pav and Hobie. The last one was the hardest to convince to follow instructions, but he found a way to convince him to do what he wants without him even noticing, at least not until it was already done. Reverse psychology is what worked the most.
Until there was a problem. Hobie and Gwen were called to move a doc Oc anomaly to another universe in order to fight without causing damage to the surroundings. But they didn’t expect for the anomaly to have such an advanced technology so they called for back up, aka, Y/n.
But they forgot to mention a small detail.
The anomaly was in Lego Spider-Man’s dimension.
Y/n had such a heart attack when he came flying out of the portal and instantly had to calculate the landing to avoid destroying everything.
It was inevitable.
His foot alone covered the whole street.
Back up for the back up was needed, and seconds later Jess and spider byte appeared taking care of the situation.
But poor Y/n still was left with the horrified faces of the citizens in his mind. He doesn’t know how many bit the dust because of his mistake because there were to many casualties caused by the anomalies attack. It was a miracle that Lego Spider-Man’s dimension didn’t disappear.
Gwen and Hobie were scolded for how careless they were in their decision making once they returned.
Y/n didn’t leave his own dimension for a week with Miguel’s permission to stay out of missions until further notice.
It took the whole gang and spider Lego himself to convince him to go back to the HQ.
It was hilarious for him to see the relieved face of Miguel when he again was in charge of the teenagers. Poor man felt like he was one step away from strangling them all.
It took some time and encouragement from those who care about him but everything went back to normal. Dealing with anomalies and protecting tiny people, training with different variants of Spider-Mans that were brave, confident or stupid enough to face him, and last, the most fun thing to do is invite the gang to his universe just to see them mess around with things bigger than them. His locked screen picture is a selfie he took with them holding or eating a slice of pizza half their size.
But just like with any normal human being, there are good days and bad days. Just like the present.
Y/n dedicated himself to roam in the halls of the HQ trying to clear his mind of his thoughts while he waited for a call from any Spiderman in need of back up.
There has been some things troubling him at home. The need of silence and time brought him to the training zone.
Due to the busy day, most of the spider variants are out, dealing with things in their own dimension or chasing anomalies. That left the HQ almost empty, even the training zone.
He went to the machine that simulates carrying to trains and sat down letting his feet dangle from the edge.
Many would think that being Spiderman means not having to deal with common problems. That everything is about villains and training with cool super powers. But they forget that under the mask, there’s a normal teenager with normal problems.
But still problems.
“There you are.”
Y/n flinched in his place when he heard the voice so close behind him. He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice he wasn’t alone anymore.
When he turned he found Peter B. walking towards him with his always smiling baby attached to his chest.
“It’s unusual to not see you with the teenage gang during missions.” Said Peter watching his daughter impatiently kicking her legs. His smile faltered when he didn’t recibe an answer from the young giant. He looked up encountering Y/n staring at his baby with an unreadable look. Not in a bad way but still worrying. “You okay kid?”
Y/n was startled out of his thoughts. He looked away and fiddled his fingers, putting a smile in his face that didn’t reach his ears. “Yeah, yeah. Just- you know… thinking.” Said the teenage with some insecurity. “The usual.”
Peter rises an brow at the down attitude. That is totally not the usual.
Normally, whenever the giant boy sees Mayday or Jess swollen belly there’s instantly a smile in his face. But today doesn’t seem like the case.
“Hey, everything okay?” Asked the father. “Because that doesn’t sound like the usual.”
He saw Y/n’s shoulders tense up when he was caught and he didn’t like it. That meant that something is bothering him.
In a silent message that he is not leaving, Peter sat down beside the boy, looking at the hyperactive Mayday to avoid putting pressure on the teenage.
“Wanna talk about it?”
Y/n visibly deflated at those words, letting out a sigh. “It’s just-“ the words got stuck in his throat, unable the let them out. “No, forget it. It’s something stupid.” Dejectedly, he placed his elbows on his knees.
Peter put a hand on the boys side, in a reassuring way. It was the only place he could reach. “If it’s bordering you I doubt it’s stupid.”
Both of the males turned to look at Mayday when she stared fussing in the carrier. Her little hands swaying in the boys direction.
“Oh look. Little Parker here noticed that someone is sad.” Said Peter while taking his baby out of the carrier. He bounce her up and down, managing to get a laugh out of her. Instantly, better than a charm, there was a smile in Y/n’s face. But just like before, his smile slipped of his lips, returning to that indecipherable look.
Suddenly a lightbulb light up in Peters head. He stood up with Mayday in his hands and held her in front of him. “Hold her.” He said.
The sudden request startled the big guy, making him jump in his place and lean away from Peter. “What?”.
“Hold her.” He said again, bringing her nearer.
“I-I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Oh come one. It’s rejuvenating.” Y/n shifted a little to the side when Peter walked closer.
“N-No. I’m serious. It’s not a good-“
“Here” in a swift movement, Peter put his baby in the teenager’s arm. Mayday’s spider ability did the rest. She stuck to Y/n’s spider suit.
The poor giant froze in his place, he even stoped breathing in fear of blowing her away or something like that.
He may like the baby, but he’s never hold a baby, much less one this small. He is truly terrified that he’ll hurt her. She is just so small.
Both males’ attention was on the baby that stared crawling with curiosity in the new surface. She looked happy to be freed of her fathers baby prison in his chest.
Y/n, instinctively put a big hand under the baby, in case she fell, finally letting out a breath.
When she actually let herself fall and land on her back on the hand, y/n had a mini heart attack. But ultimately let a sigh of relief when she let out a giggle.
To be more comfortable, y/n brought Mayday in front of him and put his free hand below the other just in case.
Peter felt accomplished when he saw that smile in the young one’s face again. “See? Everything’s okay.”
Y/n’s smile widened when Mayday grabbed his thumb and hug it like one of her plushies. She truly is adorable. With her fluffy and curly red hair she looks like a little peach in the palm of his hand. A small baby of the size of his middle finger.
“I’m going to be a big brother.” Blurted out suddenly the teenage.
Peter blinked a few times at the declaration before finally processing. “Congratulations kid. That’s cool. Your gonna be a big sibling.” Said the man, rising his hands in celebration.
The big smile in his face waved when he saw that expression in the teenage’s faces.
“Or not?” He said a little bit unsure.
Y/n kept looking at the baby hugging and chewing his thumb. Always making eye contact with her. “It is good.” He brought his free hand closer to the other, tickling her soft chubby tummy, earning a squeal from her. “It’s the almost inexistente relationship between my mother and I that worries me.” He finally confessed.
It may have been only a few words, but the relief that brought him was evident in the way his shoulders slumped. Finally he could talk about it.
Understanding the seriousness of the situation, Peter took a seat beside the young giant in a silent sigh that he is paying attention.
“When my father died, we unconsciously stared to distance ourselves from each other. And when we realized what was happening we tried to fix it but…” Y/n physically grimace at the memories. “It was so painfully awkward between us.”
Peter’s eyes softened when the teenager took one hand of his daughter between his thumb and index. Softly caressing the chubby palm.
“And then there’s Tom.” The adult gave him a questioning look, not knowing who is Tom. “He… is my stepfather.” The teenager clarified.
“Is he a bad person?” Asked Peter a little confused why it seems like something is happening.
“No, actually no. Totally the opposite.” Y/n sighed again. “He is a good guy. He loves my mother, makes her happy and everything.”
Mayday grabbed the index that kept her arm trapped, as a way of revenge. She wrapped her arms and legs around the finger before it was lifted.
The adorable baby giggle when she was moved up and down, always keeping a hand below her for protection. The sight brought a smile to the faces on those present.
“In short, he is good for her. But he trays way too hard to be on my good side to the point it becomes really uncomfortable. And now with the baby…” At last, after everything being said, he turned to look at Peter.
The adult didn’t need the teen to finish the sentence to understand what he meant. “You fear that gap between you will only widen.”
Y/n nodded.
Peter’s gaze softened at the simple yet complicated problem. He’s had a few of those and there’s always a way to clear it.
“Look kid. Let me tell you something” Said Peter, putting a hand in Y/n’s elbow again. “I may not know your mother, but if there’s something being a father and married has thought me…”
As if knowing what her father is saying, Mayday squealed while attaching a web in Y/n’s finger to let herself dangle between his hands.
“Is that, a parent’s love knows no limits.”
Y/n nodded understanding. It was right, after what happened with his father the same year he became Spiderman, his mother became a single mother who worked overtime just to pay the bills.
She could have just sent him to an orphanage or call social services. But she didn’t. She fought to give him a good future.
“But you should talk to her.” Said Peter again catching his flying baby when she swung to her father’s arms, startling the poor boy. “We know our kids more than anyone else. But we still can’t read minds.” Concluded the father.
Simple words with a heavy bust of confidence were delivered.
Y/n let out a chuckle. He couldn’t believe it. The goofiest spider dad he has ever met actually made him feel better.
“Thanks. That actually helped.” He took a deep breath, filling his lungs with air and straightening his back.
“By the way.” Started Peter again. “You held Mayday without her making a fuss. Have you considered being a babysitter?” The ridiculously out of the blue question with his serious face made Y/n snort and shake his head. “No, I’m serious. Mayday loves you and MJ and I have been planning to go on a date for months but there’s no one we trust enough you know. With her having super powers and all.” Quickly explained Peter while bouncing his baby.
Y/n rolled his eyes with a smile. “I’ll think about it Peter. But no promises.”
In celebration, Peter threw May in the air. “Yes.” He caught the squealing baby.
“If that is the case, I’ll totally have to make an appointment beforehand.” Said a feminine voice behind them.
They turned finding the very pregnant spider woman of the society.
“Why did I suddenly became a babysitter material?” Asked the teenager in fake annoyance.
Jess smiled up at him. “You always were. With babysitting the young spider gang and everything. You’ll just babysit a real baby this time.” She said with obviousness in her voice.
Y/n nodded his head, accepting his reality.
Peter turned to Jessica, standing up with Mayday finally in the carrier again. “What are you doing here? I thought you were in stand by ordered by Miguel.”
“Miguel needs a hand in the mission. Three pairs of hands to be exact.” She clarified while starting to introduce the coordinates in her watch.
“What? Is the boss getting his butt kicked?” Joked Y/n standing up.
“Seems so. Let’s move.” Ordered the woman.
After the portal big enough for them was opened, the three were launched through the multiverse.
Y/n doesn’t know how it feels to be normal and thinking civil problems are the biggest weight his shoulders could ever carry.
But he does know that being Spiderman is something he would never give up.
He could never give this awesome people in the society up.
He would give his life first.

“What does it say here?” Sounded the voice of the teenage redhead in the shed. She pointed to one of the dialog bubbles in the comic.
Thirteen tilted his head in a vain attempt to read better. The comic was in his own hands and moving it wasn’t as helpful as he thought. “Mmm… final… v… victory?” He stutter. He felt he chest warm when he saw the look of pride in Max face while she nodded.
“Yeah. You’re getting better.” She said excitedly. A big smile was formed in the kids face.
It’s been two weeks since they met. And everything’s going good so far.
The day after Max let him stay, with the condition of being careful no to be seen, she went to check on him only to have heart attack when she didn’t find him.
The blankets she gave him were folded and there was no trace of him.
She spent the whole morning of school wondering where he could have gone. It’s not like she paid attention to the classes before.
And after an uncomfortable ride home with her stepbrother she went straight to the shed getting an insult of how weird she was behaving from the blond and disappointment from finding nothing.
She stayed on her room thinking the few things she knew about him while her brother worked out in the living room. She thought about the limited vocabulary of the kid and that she had to read the comics she showed him because he couldn’t.
There were no visible signs of physical abuse but she got a glimpse of a tattoo in his left wrist when he rubbed his eyes after yawning.
The kid is only ten, what kind of tattoo would a kid his age want?
He is dirty and his clothe doesn’t fit him, obviously not his. But still, none of it gives her a hint from where he comes from or how to find him.
She didn’t even know why she wanted to finde him so bad. Or more like, she pretended not to know.
She’s always thought of herself as independent, which was accurate for the most part, but didn’t mean she liked being alone.
Before moving to Hawkins, in California, she made her life outside of the awkward environment of her house. She spent most of her time with her two best friends and going to her biological fathers house. Even when her mother met Neil and his son, she did it.
But now, she is stuck in a place she doesn’t know with her awkwardly nervous mother, an asshole who controls the house and everyone in it and calls himself her father just to have an excuse to “educate” her and a stepbrother that gives cero shit about her.
The kid was like her hope for something better. His innocent soul hasn’t been taught how to be an though (asshole) to confront the live out there. He was a little piece of the remaining good things of the world.
Fortunately, before she could exit and give her stepbrother an excuse to leave the house she was startled out of her thoughts by a knock on her window.
There he was peeking over the edge of the window and lifting a hand with three bags of chips to share with her.
Since then it became a routine that they manage to hold for a week. While Max goes to school and avoids as much interaction with her current family as she could, thirteen sneaks out to explore more. He already knows most of the place like the back of his hands but he still finds interesting the things that people do, even tho he is to scared to get close.
Those are the moments too bitersweet to him. He loves watching others have fun and imagine himself enjoying with them, having a life where he didn’t have to keep hiding, but before he can get a step closer to the kids in the park the fear of returning to the lab and being punished for leaving in the first place stops him.
That’s why he always goes back to the shed. To a place where he knows he is not alone anymore. At least the fear of being found didn’t bother him for the first week, but at the beginning of the second something that neither he or Max could have thought happened.
It was a normal day for them until the girl came back from school and went to her room like usual. But her heart fell once she saw Billy walking out of the house with a grey tank top and a pair of shorts he only uses when he knows his going to get dirty. Which means he is going thinker with his car, which means, he needs his tolls that are in the shed.
She took a shortcut jumping through her window. She run to catch her stepbrother and walked as normal as posible beside him.
“What are you doing?” She asked, trying to act normal.
He threw her a a momentary look, easily realizing her act. “To mind my business.” He answers bluntly.
She put herself in front of him walking backwards, only making the situation even weirder to Billy. “Don’t you have a date? With the… that blonde girl. What was her name?” She tried to remember almost stumbling with a rock.
Billy rolled his eyes in exasperation. “I don’t know and I don’t care. That was yesterday. Now move.” He pushed her effortlessly to the side once they reached the shed.
Max almost face planted in the floor but that wasn’t her priority. She turned to Billy only to witness him stop in his place with the door open.
“What the fuck?” He mumbled.
Max rammed her body against the door and closed it staying between it and her stepbrother. “It’s not what it looks like.” She defended.
Billy rose a brown in incredulity. “Really? Because it looks like you’re keeping a stray in Neil’s shed.”
“He’s not a dog, he’s a kid.” She defended, actually offended. “A really scared kid.”
“And I don’t give a shit. You’ve been keeping him there in a shed that doesn’t belong to you.” Max knew that what he said was true, but she couldn’t let him to his own with the possibility of returning to an abusive home. “What could a kid of his age be scared of? A monster under his bed?” He shook his head. It was ridiculous. “He needs to go.” He said with finality.
Max pressed her back even harder against the door and shook her head.
Billy got closer to her, using his height to tower over her in an intimidating way. “Get him out before Neil finds out or I’ll do it.” He threatened in a gruff voice.
Max genuinely felt scared. She knew what he was capable of, but she bets that the kid is even more scared than she is right now. And she was right, the boy was shaking inside the shed, hugging to his chest one of the comics Max left for him. His favorite comics. One of x-men’s.
“No.” She said with all the confidence she could in front of her intimidating brother.
The blond grabbed her arm in a painfully strong grip and dragged her a few steps away from the shed before throwing her, ignoring her yelp when she fell on her side. “Then I’m gonna get rid of the scaredy cat myself.” He conclude walking with heavy steps towards the shed.
Max panicked. She let out something that she knew could affect him. “He’s scared of his father, okay?” She screamed.
She felt a small relief when Billy stopped in his actions with his hand in the door’s handle.
His hesitation brought some confidence to the girl. “He hurts him.” She explained in hopes of changing his mindset. “I’m not asking you to take care of him. Just don’t tell anyone. You won’t even notice he is here.” She pleaded a little calmer now but still seating in the floor. “You won’t even notice he is here.” She repeated in a soft voice.
Billy bit the inside of his cheek in thought. He doesn't know how long the kid’s been there but if it weren't for the fact that he personally went to the shed he wouldn't know of his existence.
Almost reluctantly, Billy opened the shed again. He stayed in his place but he took his time to actually take a look at the kid. Scared and dirty, the boy stayed in the very back of the wooden place, shaking. Those blue innocent eyes were looking at him, waiting for the worst.
For a second, a small flash, he saw himself in the boy. When he was recently abandoned by his mother and left with his abusive father. He moved slowly to one of the shelves close to the door to grab the box of tools, keeping an eye on the kid.
Once he was out he looked at the surprised redhead in the floor as he closed the door behind him.
He stepped in front of his sister with his always present frown in his face. “If Neil finds out I let you hide a kid in the shed I’m gonna drag you under the bus with me. Do you understand?” He concluded.
Max was stunned for a few seconds but nodded slowly.
Billy scoffed, proceeding with his plans on tinkering in his car but made a las comment. “And wash that filthy kid. His gonna become a charcoal by the weekend.”
Max blinked a few times. She sat there for a moment, processing what just happened until she heard the door creaked open and a pair of eyes accompanied by a dirty fur (at least that’s what it looks like) peeked out of the place. She gave him a toothed smile that soon became a laugh that turned into a cackle that had her almost rolling on the floor.
The boy came out of the shed smiling, visibly confused but smiling. If Max was happy that means good news.
And it did.
Now that she didn’t have to actually hide the boy it became easier to change places between her room and the shed, they go through her bedroom’s window though.
She did what Billy said. She gave him a bath. She took his clothes and left him in his underwear covering it with a towel and sat him in the bathtub. She was horrified when the water changed color almost instantly and she had to change it for more clean water.
She knew he got dirty through the week but not that much.
She was surprised once again when she gave him the bottle of her brother’s shampoo and he only looked at it in wonder.
The kid didn’t know how to use a shampoo, much less the conditioner. He now has hair long enough to go a little below his ears when wet but that’s new to him, he’s always had a buzz cut since he was a kid. He never needed anything more than soap for his whole body, like the rest of the kids in the lab.
Knowing the kid was never taught how to use a shampoo put another knot in Max’s heart. Through how much has the kid gone?
She end up teaching him how to use the shampoo and conditioner. He needed a little help to get some knots out of his hair but it was easy.
Surprise surprise. Under those old rags and all the dirt was a beautiful kid with light brown hair. It was formerly a way darker color.
Even Billy who was just on his way to his room did a doble take to the boy standing patiently in the hall. He scoffed and continued on his way. Who could have thought?
Meanwhile Max was practically buried in the main closet of the house, it was more like a storage room with all the unpacked boxes, looking for clothe that would fit him. More specifically, clothes her stepbrother used, but there was nothing. She already looked for in the unpacked boxes around the house and the closet was her last option.
She debated if she should ask Billy personally. It wasn’t the best of her ideas but it was the only one. The probability of Billy slamming the door in her face where high.
She sigh. It was her only option for now.
Reluctantly, she made her way to her stepbrothers bedroom where he was gathering clean clothes to take to the bathroom. His towel was already in his shoulder.
She knocked on the doorframe a little shy.
“What?” He grumbled without looking at her.
“Can you lend me some of your old clothes. The kid doesn’t have any.” She said in a small voice.
He huffed as he grabbed a blue tank top from his closet. “Why is that my problem? He should have thought about it before running away.” He said in a low voice with a hint of annoyance.
“Come on Billy. You can’t let him freeze to death in the autumn weather. Winter is already close.” She answered with a little bit of annoyance in her own voice.
Billy slammed the door of his closet shut and turned to Max. He already had what he needed. He pointed at her with his free hand. “You said he isn’t my problem and I wouldn’t even notice him. This doesn’t seem like it.” He had a point. “Give him some of your old clothes.” He recommended walking to the door. “You dress like a boy anyway.” He insult on his way out, bumping with Max’s shoulder on purpose.
Thirteen, still in the hallway, looked at Billy in curiosity when he walked by him, even when the teenage was obviously ignoring his presence.
Max huffed at him. Well she didn’t have that much expectations in him anyway.
She guided Thirteen back to her room and sat him down on her bed.
She looked for her own old clothes through the many unpacked boxes in her room, grumbling every time something fell out of the boxes for the lack of space needed.
It took a long time but finally, she found her clothes. she organized it into tree divisions. The too small for the 10 year old kid, the clothes that fits and the clothes that will fit. All of that, after selecting the ones that looked boyish.
By the end of it thirteen already had his hair sticking out in every direction, full of static. He put on and took off everything to measure.
While they were both doing their own things, Billy was back in his room. He discarded the dirty clothes in the laundry basket and dried his hair with harsh movements of the towel. Once satisfied he threw the towel to wherever the hell it flew, he just wanted to fall on his bed and blast some music, but he was stopped when he heard a commotion at the feet of his bed.
He huffed. The towel fell on top a stack of books placed on an unpacked box and caused everything to fall.
He grabbed the towel with annoyance only to freeze when he saw the box slightly opened. The item wasn’t hidden but wasn’t visible either from the door, that’s why Max didn’t see it when she came to ask. The light left a cloth visible inside the box. The box was filled with the clothes Max was looking for and some other things of his childhood.
Memories of the few good times. When his mother was still with him and he was happy.
He hasn’t been able to get rid of the things. To sentimental. But he doesn’t want to be reminded of the past and keeps everything hidden. Just like his feelings.
Agitated, Billy grabbed the box of things, slammed his closet’s door open, threw the box inside and slammed it back shut. He walked to his nightstand and grabbed the box of cigarettes. He lighted one up with hands trembling in bottled fury and disgust towards himself and the world.
The relief of breathing nicotine and filling his lungs with the smoke was almost instant. He held his breath for a few seconds, calming himself first then letting it out just like the bad feelings.
The past is in the past, he cannot be weak anymore. He doesn’t have that chance.
To drown every remaining of that bad taste in his mouth he blasted his noisy music so loud that he couldn’t hear his own thoughts anymore.
Thirteen, still in Max’s room frowned when the music reached his ears. Billy’s door was close and so was Max’s, yet, he could still hear the music very clear. He didn’t like how it sounds.
A little thing he hasn’t told Max yet is one of his rare capabilities. Everyone in the lab new it was a possibility to gain enhanced senses once some of the kids started showing signs of it. More specifically, hearing and smell.
Whatever they did to expand the limits of their minds also better enabled the senses limited by mental capacity.
9 of the 15 kids they had developed the enhanced senses along with telepathy and psychokinetic powers. Thirteen was one of them. He only got the hearing though.
But he never got to interact enough with them because he was separated from the rest of the kids when his father found out he was a late bloomer. He was left in isolation for many hours with the excuse that it was to help him concentrate. He was raised in the east side of the lab while the rest were held in the west.
But still, he ended up better than his father ever anticipated and now he has some resemblance of freedom.
Uncomfortable with the music rumbling in his head he rubbed his ears for a moment. The security alarms in the lab were still worse so it wasn’t that much of a problem.
“Here” cheered Max grabbing jeans, a pair of socks, a navy-blue t-shirt with long sleeves and a red hoodie that has less color than when it was new for the many times it’s been washed.
Happy to cover his chilling skinny body he quickly put on the clothes. Max helped him when he managed to get his head stuck in one of the long sleeves.
At last, when he was done, he had a big innocent smile in his face that was reflected in Max’s own. The clothes fitted perfectly.
“Looking good, uh?” she said rising and lowering her eyebrows consecutively. The smile in the boy’s face widened with joy. “Now you can blend in with the others if you need.” Thirteen nodded in agreement. “Wanna read a comic now?” She asked, getting another nod as an answer.
“Magneto?” asked the boy in hope.
Max laughed a little, already grabbing an x-men comic. She knows that the boy’s favorite character is Magneto. She doesn’t know why but she likes how he thinks outside of the box. Most of the kids like a hero, but Thirteen likes a villain, just like she likes monsters. In some way, they are similar.
That’s how the first two weeks of knowing the stepsiblings went. Enjoying a little bit of liberty and not lonely anymore.
But Halloween is close, and so are other things in the dark he thought he would never see again.
Fortunately, this time he won’t be alone.
What do you think?

To say that Billy was surprised is an understatement. A whole week came and went without any inconvenience.
The asshole he has as a father isn’t even suspicious that there’s basically a fifth person living with them. In the shed, but still under their roof.
He is never, ever, going to say it out loud but he admires the guts Max has to look at Neil during diners and give no hint of any other emotion than the hate and forced respect she already harbors towards the man.
He became a silent witness of her plan. Watching her pretend to be tired earlier in the nights and leave to her room to rest only to jump through her window the next second to hang out with the boy in the shed.
And talking about the boy. The only way Billy could describe him is, strange. The boy is as silent as a mouse. He appears and disappears without making a noise. Which is creepy in the most part but thankfully helpful.
The asshole of his father has been busy recreating his righteous façade in front of everyone in Hawkins to actually pay attention to any mistake or misbehavior he does.
He could even bet that it has been the best week he’s had in years.
As for Thirteen, he’s living the best three weeks of his entire life.
Clean clothes instead of a gown, a roof to protect him, outside of the lab, learning to read comics and with a real friend.
Max even brought him to the arcade once, in the night and when it was about to close. It didn’t end that well as she thought it would. That night she found out the boy has a sensitive hearing after he bolted out of the place. ‘Too much noise’ is what he said. Since the arcade wasn’t an option anymore she came up with another idea. She would teach him how to skate.
Fortunately, she had her skateboard with her.
It was to be expected that Thirteen would fall a few times, it was his first time in his life doing a physical activity and didn’t have any kind of coordination with his feet.
When they went back to the house, Thirteen was covered in dirt, a couple of bruises and scratches but he had such a big smile in his face that only by looking at it Max couldn’t help but do the same.
Little by little Thirteen has started to open more to Max and vice versa, making it obvious that he is comfortable with her. He likes to hear about her day in the school with the other kids, the way she tells the story of a group of stalkers reminds him of the way she reads the comics. And she likes that she can openly talk about whatever she wants without the fear o being judge.
Things are working better than they both expected.
Until the day everything would change finally arrived.
Halloween.
Max loves Halloween and she’s made it clear every time she tells him stories of what she did back in Cali. She wanted him to come with her this year but after what happened in the arcade he is a little uneasy.
Besides, the only reason he wanted to be part of a big group of kids was to make a friend. He was looking for someone to help him stop being alone, and now that he has Max there’s no reason to go out there that much. Now the fear of being found is the only thing that remains in his mind.
“Still don’t want to go with me?” Asked Max to the kid seating in her closet.
The boy smiled and shook his head.
“You could use a sheet to cover yourself completely like in the E.T. movie I showed you. The group of stalkers will be there…” at least, she hopes they’ll be there after her step brother almost ran over them with the car after school. “We’ll meet in the street for trick or treat.”Thirteen frowned a little, considering the pros and cons in his head but the worry was still evident in his face. “Still don’t want to?”
The boy pressed his lips together before shaking his head.
Max was internally disappointed but she understood his fear. She already tried running away to her biological father when she found out they were moving from Cali to Hawkins. She was just as paranoid and worried. She only lasted a few hours away from her house, and she doesn’t how log has the kid been hiding.
“Are we still up for sweets and comics, though?” She asked getting an instant nod from the boy with a big smile.
She was confused for a second when she saw his smile fall and glance at the door. The boy slide the door of the closet almost completely, avoiding being engulf by total darkness, just in time when her mother opened her bedroom door.
“Sweetie, do you have your costume yet?” She asked in her always flowery and nervous tone. Max still doesn’t get why she is so jittery with her own daughter.
“Yeah, this.” Max rose the mask of Michael Myers and fake knife she had in her hands. She already had her black coverall that belonged to her father on. The measures were changed to fit by Susan herself a year ago and fits perfectly.
Her mother gave her a little forced smile. “Are you sure? I could try to make something with the things in the closet. There’s still time.” She recommended, pointing at the closet in the hallway.
Max pressed her lips in a thin line. Comments like that are common from her mother. She knows that Susan would like to have a more feminine daughter. One that prefers to use make up. One that has girls as friends to go shopping with instead of boys to skateboard with in the neighborhood. One that likes princesses and romance instead of monsters and assassins.
But she wasn’t like that and she’s didn’t want to be like that.
“No. This is fine.” She said.
Her mother nodded with the forced smile still in her face. “Okay then. Am. Have fun.” Not knowing what else to say she turned back and closed the door behind her.
Max let out the breath she was holding. Why everything in her life has to be weird?
She turned to the closet when she heard it slide open. The boy looked at her with his brows furrowed in worry. She looked upset.
Max understood the look. Her friends used to look at her the same way back in Cali. “It’s just-“ She pointed at the door with her thumb but didn’t know what to say or to explain. “I-“ she was interrupted when Billy passed by the door saying her name in a singsong tone.
“Max~” Even though it sounded like he was happy Max could still identify the dangerous threat deep down.
“Just a minute.” She yelled when she heard his footsteps going further in the hall. She turned back to the kid as she walked backwards to the door. “Comics and sweets when I return?”
The boy nodded.
“Max. I’m leaving.” Shouted Billy from the front door, his singsong tone completely gone.
Feed up with him she opened the door and yelled her answers rushing down the hall. “I’m coming.”
Thirteen blinked a few times, watching in curiosity at the opened door. He still doesn’t understand their bond. They seem to care and know about the other but act so hostile.
Max closed the front door behind her, already out of the house, finding Billy leaning against his car with a lit cigarette in his mouth. He was invited to a costume party and yet, his costume was a leather jacket covering his shirtless torso, fingerless black gloves, dark jeans and his usual boots. That wasn’t even a costume, but when you have the popularity Billy does, nobody gives a shit.
“What, the rat is not coming to be a looser with you?” He asked taking the cigarette out of his mouth, taking a final drag and throwing it in the floor before opening the car’s door.
Max threw him a side glance, not at all agreeing with the way he speaks.
“He is a boy and no. He wants to stay.” Billy turned to his stepsister, looking at her over the car.
“The brat better not blow the cover because I swear to god Max.” He threatened.
Max rolled her eyes as she got in the passenger sit. As if she didn’t know what could happen if Neil finds the boy. “I already told you, nobody’ll know he is there.”
“Hey.” scolded the older boy once inside. “Watch. Your attitude.” He threatened, making a pause to be sure Max understand he is being serious.
She understood. Max looked at the front, avoiding the glare Billy threw at her.
He huffed in annoyance turning on the engine and driving out.
But he couldn’t help the question that lingered in his mind.
What kind of monster is that guy for the kid to rather stay in a strangers house than to go back home?
He slightly tightened his hold in the wheel.
He shouldn’t be thinking about it. It’s not like it’s his problem. Why should he care about a coward?
Unknown to the step-siblings on their way to celebrate halloween, Thirteen was still in Max’s room searching through the box full of comics a few that he could take to the shed.
Even though he can’t read that well he loves to watch the colorful pictures of the stories. Even more when those are telling Magneto’s story.
He feels like he can identify himself with him a little. Their powers are similar, they both can control things with their minds but magneto only controls metals while thirteen controls any kind of material.
But his story is the most intriguing. He sees magneto as someone really brave, confronting the masses for the opportunity to free himself and those who are like him. And he is feared for his capabilities, just like it happened to him in the lab.
The day he finally unleashed his powers was to protect himself from the people who tasered him on his father’s orders. He screamed and sent flying everyone in the room against the walls, breaking the white tiles. They feared him that day.
He just wants to be as brave as Magneto to confront those who wronged him.
He was in his voyage when he heard the always heavy footsteps of Neil. He knew both him and Susan were in the house due to the sounds they make, but Neil was getting to close to comfort, and the door of the room was open.
He grabbed the two comics he already found and jumped trough the open window, squatting down once he landed to reduce the noise to the minimum.
He acted in the right moment because once he was out Neil stoped at the door when he caught something moving in his peripheral vision.
The man furrowed his eye brows as he entered the room. It was a mess by his standards, just like Billy’s. But the place looked empty of any presence.
No one could fit under the bed and the closet had only clothes, the only option left was the open window that let the autumn wind enter.
The boy outside was tiptoeing along the backside of the house without making a single sound, still crouched. He turned around the corner and pressed his back to the wall just before the adult stuck his head out of the window. He waited patiently, keeping his breathing even. He could still hear him breathing heavily by the window, inspecting the surroundings.
Assured that everything was in order the man grunted an went back inside, not before closing the window and locking it from the inside. It’s not like that would stop Thirteen but the man didn’t know.
The boy waited some more time, just to be sure. He heard his footsteps reach the living room and take a seat in the old couch that creaked under his weight accompanied by Susan’s voice.
When the coast was clear he walked calmly back to the shed with the comics in hand ready to wait for Max to come back with the sweets she promised.
Coming back home wasn’t as easy or peaceful as the teenagers thought it would be.
Max waited for Billy for an hour before she realized that he was never going to pick her up, so she ended up walking all the way home.
The situation got worse when she found Neil and her mother waiting for them awake and in the living room.
Neil was fuming, already assuming and getting it right about why she came back home alone.
Max tried to lie about Billy dropping her at the front door and leaving to droop one of his friends and that he would be back soon. But the lie flew out of the window when said teenager appeared stumbling and staggering through the front door two minutes later.
When his father asked him why he was late Billy made the excuse that he had a flat tire.
Those simple words left both teenagers as liars and idiots. And yet, Neil’s anger was solely directed to his excuse of a son.
Max left to her room before everything started, she already knew what was coming. Neil beating the shit out of his son, Billy not having the courage to fight back and her mother watching, to much of a coward to either live the scene or stop her husband.
Max stayed in her room imagining she was in another place, in another world, pretending she didn’t know Billy enough to care about him. But actually, it was the opposite.
They’ve had a few moment between them in which they manage to understand each other silently. Without having to mention they’re main problem. Neil and Susan’s uncomfortable relationships that put they’re lives upside down.
But while she was creating walls to protect herself from her powerlessness, Thirteen had come out of the shed a few minutes ago. When he heard Max walking to and opening the front door to be exact.
He sneaked into her room, unlocking the window with his powers, waiting for her in her closet. But when she took longer than normally and he heard Neil’s voice grow more and more dangerous, he went back outside to see the living room trough the window.
He saw and heard everything that happened. He even witnessed Neil hitting Billy and beating him to the ground.
That man was like papa, it’s what he thought.
Watching Billy get beat made Thirteen’s blood boil so much he didn’t realize his powers where starting to act up.
The shelf beside them fell loudly startling a scream out of Susan and distracting Neil. The sudden pause at least got him to calm down and see his son seating in the floor, beaten and drunk. He thought that was enough, he didn’t want to leave a mark of obvious evidence in him, he didn’t need someone coming to ask questions.
Thirteen went back to Max’s room. He knocked on the window, getting her attention. She turned towards the boy, taking the mask off.
Once he was inside, he instinctively sat down beside her and gave her a hug.
Oh how much Max wanted to cry right there. But she hates crying. She didn’t let any tears come out but she leaned in to the boy’s hug.
The world doesn’t deserve someone like Thirteen, is what came to her mind. So young and so aware of the bad things and yet, he remains with a heart of gold.
They stayed like that for what felt like hours until everything calmed down. They waited when everyone was back in they’re room, and even a few minutes after that.
They sat in the girl’s bed, getting more comfortable.
Max dumped the bag full of candys in her bed between them. She had skittles, 3 musketeers, nerds, fireballs, monchitos, tunos and a lot more she didn’t know existed.
She was obviously trying to change the atmosphere and thankfully it was working.
“You know, I’ve been thinking…” mumbled Max with her mouth stuffed with whoppers, making sure to speak softly. She didn’t want anyone coming to knock on her door when she should be asleep. “Do you remember when magneto choose another name when he was on the run?” she asked the kid. Thirteen nodded, still munching in a bar of the three musketeers. “I was thinking. What if you do the same? Having a number as a name easily raises suspicions. But if you have another name…” she left the idea hanging, already noticing the understanding in the kids expression.
The boy opened his eyes wide, nodding a few times in happiness.
“Wanna choose a name?” She asked after she swallowed the chocolate.
With the most innocent eyes and without hesitation he said. “Magneto.”
Max laughed a bit and shook her head. The kid was to innocent for his own good. “Magneto is not a name for a person. That’s his title as a villain.” She explained.
Thirteen deflated a little bit. He wanted a name from magneto.
He thought for a moment under Max’s attentive eyes. Until he came with an idea. “Magnus.” He said in a dreamy tone of voice.
Max repeated the name in her head and in a whisper, testing how it sounds before nodding. “Magnus. I like that.” She extended her hand, expecting the kid to do the same.
Thirteen looked at her hand for a second, not getting the memo, but he trusts her so he raised his hand, blinking a few times when she grabbed it and shook it.
She smiled at him. “Nice to meet you, Magnus.” She said
Thirteen felt cheeks warming and a smile spreading in his face. He likes how it sounds. “Nice to meet you.” He whispered.
He now has a name, a friend and a place to stay. He has everything he ever wanted, and he’ll do everything in his power to protect it.

"Is this thing on?" Eli asked as he pushed some buttons on the camera. He realized that he was recording until he turned to see the screen next to him. "Oh yes it is."
Behind him were Norm, Max and Jake in their respective seats doing whatever on their computers. Jake, like him, was practicing on his first record.
"My name is Eli Thompson. After being asleep for 5 years and 9 months I am finally on the planet Pandora." The soldier started making a face trying to think of what he has to say. "My purpose is to take my brother's place and lead an avatar body that looks like one of the natives here... or something." He scratched his head in some confusion. "Aaaaaand… I think that’s it." He turned to see Norm and Max who were behind him. "Hey Norm. Is that all I have to say?"
The scientist turned when he heard his name. "Yeah, we just have to make sure we document everything we see and feel." Said the man.
Max poked his head from behind Norm's shoulder. "It's what will keep you sane for the next 6 years." He joked.
Eli gave him a small smile, shaking his head and turned to the camera. "Okay. Eli out."
He reached out and turned off the camera.
End of stream.
"Grace Agustin is a legend," Norm said with great admiration evident in his tone of voice. So much so that Eli couldn't help but roll his eyes at him. He had already heard many things about that woman and not many of them were good. "She's the head of the avatar program. She wrote a the book. I` mean, she literally wrote the book on Pandoran botany"
"Well, that's 'cause she likes plants better than people." Max said, backing up Norm's idea about the female scientist.
Jake looked at Eli and raised his eyebrows in a gesture that said "Won't they really shut up?" bringing a smile to his friend.
"Here she is, Cinderella back from the ball." Upon hearing the aforementioned, both soldiers turned to face the front, finally arriving in the presence of a woman with an aura that gave off arrogance.
'This will be good' Eli thought as he saw the doctor.
"Grace, I'd like you to meet Norm Spellman, Eli Thompson, and Jake Sully."
With very little interest in the newly arrived, except for one of them, the doctor turned around, removed her glasses and pulled her cigarette from between her lips, showing that he had her undivided attention.
"Norm, I hear good things about you. How is your na'vi?" she asked in a surprisingly soft tone.
Norm, clearly nervous, raised a hand in the form of support to search for the words he wanted to say. He was in front of his idol. "May everyone's mother… smile upon our first meeting."
Eli brought a hand to his forehead to massage between his brows. The idea of having to use that new language that his brother tried to stick on his head like a mantra wasn't very appealing. He could understand most of the words, so it wasn't hard to form an idea of what they were saying, but speaking it on his own was out of the question.
And it was worse when he saw how pleased the doctor was at having received the words of greeting.
"Not bad. You speak a bit formal."
Norm let out a nervous giggle, but went on with his talk with more confidence. "I studied five years, but there is much to learn."
"Um, Grace? This is Eli Thompson and Jake Sully." The smile on the woman's face disappeared as Max tried to redirect her attention to the soldiers.
"Ma'am." Jake reached out his hand to shake the doctor's. He was trying to remain respectful despite the scientist's clear distaste for having soldiers within 1km of her work area. Eli, on the other hand, stood idly behind Jake.
"Yeah yeah, I know who you are and I don't need you. I need your brothers" the cold words of the woman put a metaphorical wall between the soldiers and the scientist, causing the calm attitude of the soldiers to instantly change to a more hostile one with just an exchange of glances. "You know?" She asked Max, answering before he could. "The PhD who trained for three years for this mission?"
"They're dead. I know it's a big inconvinience for everyone" Jake's tone of voice was evidence enough that they were now on thin ice.
The woman, for a tiny moment, thought about giving them a chance. But her way of giving them that opportunity was nothing short of dismissive. "How much lab training have you had?" She ask abruptly.
"I dissected a frog once." Jake answered with complete confidence.
Eli snorted at the memory of the chaos of that day in class. "I blew mine up." The soldier laughed.
Grace gasped in shock and outrage. Intend to give them a try. "You see?..." she spat at poor Max. "You see? I mean, they're just pissing on us without even the courtesy of calling it rain. I''ll talk 'm going to Selfrigd." The woman turned around with every intention of hitting someone, genuinely panicking poor Max.
"No, Grace. I don't think that's a good idea."
"NO, MAN, THIS IS SUCH BULLSHIT!" She complained without stopping to pay attention to them. "I'm gonna kick his corporate butt."
Max stopped in his attempts to talk sense into her. Instead, he turned to the soldiers to give them one last piece of news before continuing with the job. The tour was over. "Here tomorrow, 0800... Try and use big words."
Eli and Jake raised their eyebrows in surprise and somewhat amused to see the scientist leave with the last word from him. They were both sure they wouldn't listen to him. They didn't plan on getting along with the woman, but they would try to make an effort not to make enemies with people they will see for 6 years in a row.

“A new student?” Asked the teenage red head nonchalant. His voice came muffled by the rim of the can in his mouth. The now student leaned his head back compelatly to drink the rest of the beverage.
“Mmhm. And I need you to keep an eye on him.” Answered Gojo sensei. The man smiled when he saw the boy shaking the can over his mouth to take until the last drop while humming to what the teacher was saying. The red head even had the audacity to look inside the can looking for more.
The boys obsession with unhealthy beverages was more than evident. “What grade is he?”
Gojo walked to the boy lazily seating in his couch and replaced the can with a strawberry mochi he recently bought. “Special grade.”
Kimura whistled in wonder finally looking at Gojo. “Such a task for little ol’ me?”
Gojo smirked. “Well, I wanted my strongest student to help with such an important task.”
The boy raised an eyebrow. It’s not that uncommon to get praised by the strongest sorcerer but…
“And since Inumaki is busy.” Shrugged Gojo.
Kimura snorted. Yep, that’s more like it. He bit the mochi, actually pleased by the slight sour taste mixed with the sweet.
“So?” Asked the older still standing next to the student catching his attention again. “Wanna help?”
The younger’s shining eyes glowed with amusement, looking intensely towards his guardian. “As long as the rookie doesn’t have a stick up his ass I don’t see a problem.”
Satoru laughed at the boy’s answer. He already knew he would agree since the beginning. It’s always been like that. Him trusting the kid with small tasks and Kimura agreeing. The part of asking came more out of respect than anything.
“By the way, I’ll need the new student’s information that the school collected. You tend to forget things.”
Gojo pouted. “How mean.~”
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
The first year students were currently in their classroom waiting for the teacher. None of them seemed to mind the tardiness, they were more interested in panda’s information about a new student.
“Did you hear about the transfer student coming today? They say he stuffed four of his classmates into a locker.” Mentioned Panda with certain uneasiness in his voice.
The Kimura boy put his arm in the table leaned his chin in his hand, not really paying attention to the conversation.
“He killed them?” Said Maki, asking the important cuestión.
Toge was equally as intrigued for the answer. “Okaka?”
“No, but gravely injured, apparently.” Panda reassured.
Maki didn’t seem that surprised nor interested by the answer. “Hmmm… well, if he’s cocky, I’ll wring him out.”
“Shake.”
Suddenly the three of them turned to the only one not participating in the conversation.
“What do you know about the new student, Akio?” The mentioned turned his head to his classmates, looking at them from behind the shades Gojo gifted him years ago, the same ones the man used when he was a student. “What did the idiot tell you?”
“Why do you assume he told me anything?” He asked honestly intrigued.
“Everyone knows you are Gojo’s favorite student. He trusts you anything. Now. Answer.” Said the only female in the place bluntly.
“Hmmm… well, other than what you already know… he told me-“ the red head was interrupted when the strongest sorcerer opened the door loudly and came rushing inside with a lot of energy.
“Here I am, my precious students.” Weirdly, (more than normal) he stared making gestures dramatically exaggerated like an announcer. “I’ll now… be introducing… the transfer student! Everyone, get excited!”
No one was exited.
“Get exited.” He pleaded in a whisper.
The Kimura boy smiled before speaking. “Maybe we’ll get excited once we meet the student.” He suggested.
“That won’t happen.” Said Maki, she was already tired and the classes just began. “I heard he’s an awfully sour one. I’m not going to create the mood for someone like that.” She readjusted herself in her sit, crossing her legs to one side and leaning her elbow on the back of her sit.
Akio sighted as he brushed his wolf cut hair with a hand. Yep, that’s so Maki of her.
“Shake”
Panda only hummed, agreeing with Maki.
Gojo sighted in defeat at the lack of excitement of the class. But what could he do? “Oh, well. Come on in!” He called.
Maki then rested her cheek on her palm now leaning on the table as she looked at the door, Gonna give him the silent treatment.
The door slide open softly contrary to what they felt the moment Yuta stepped foot inside.
A thick wave of cursed energy crashed against their senses. While Maki and Toge stared to sweat cold Panda was frozen in his place. Yuta doesn’t know how to keep his cursed energy from leaking out of him and it’s evidently affecting them.
Akio for his part, felt goosebumps arise on his nape. A primal instinct to challenge the newcomer and reaffirm his status as the strongest student made itself present. He definitely was excited now.
Unfortunately, all of that disappeared…
“I’m Okkotsu Yut-“
Once his classmates jumped against the boy. They didn’t even let him introduce himself.
Maki pierced the chalkboard with her spear, right next to Yuta’s head. Panda and Toge where by her side ready to back her up. “Is this some kind of test? You’re cursed.”
Akio turned to the calm looking sensei. His mission is to keep an eye on the boy (take care of him) but he never expected to have to protect him even from his friends.
The white haired man turned to the boy when he felt a stare and gave him a smile as he raised a hand, discreetly telling him to watch and leave it to him. Maybe.
Akio sighted again. He needs a sweet beverage.
“This is a place to learn curses. It’s not a place for the cursed to be.” Declared Maki with hostility.
Yuta looked taken aback and Akio had an idea why, so he spoke. “The number of people that die mysterious deaths or go missing in Japan is over 10,000 a year on average. Most of those are casualties of curses born from the negative emotions of people.” He leaned back crossing his arms and spreading his legs to get comfortable in his sit. “Among them are also malicious cases caused by curse users. Only curses can affect other curses. This where we learn curses to exorcise curses: Tokyo jujutsu High School.”
By the end of the speech Yuta lost all color on his face looking at Gojo. Tell me that ahead of time!
“Aaaaand you forgot to tell him that.” Ended Akio as they all turned to the culprit of the misunderstanding. Gojo, raised a hand in an apologetic way.
He seriously has a problem with forgetting important things.
Until he remembered one little important thing. “Oh, you all should back away quickly.” He suggested confusing the three students formerly threatening the newcomer.
Their questions were answered when a pair of hands came out of the chalkboard forcing them to step back.
“Do not…”
“Wait! Rika-chan!” Begged Yuta.
“…bully Yuta!” She attacked.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Long story short, Rika end up giving them a good bonk in the head, and the classroom was trashed. Even Akio had to stand next to Gojo when a chair was thrown in his direction.
“So as you can see, this is the boy cursed by Rika-chan, who just loves him…” Gojo made exaggerated gestures again. “Okkotsu Yuta-kun! Be nice to him, everyone!”
The three students hit in the head where annoyed. Akio was indifferent, he already knew. And Yuta looked close to fainting.
“If you attack Yuta, Rika-chan’s curse will activate… or not. Either way, be careful, everyone.”
Akio covered his snort faking a cough when his friends glared at him. And you’re telling them now?
Gojo turned to Yuta. “These guys are being all rebellious…”
“Oi.” Groaned Akio.
“Except for him” he added in a rush. “…so I’ll introduce them quick-like.”
Yuta listened atently but he had a feeling not even all his attention would save him from his teacher’s antics. And unknown to him, he was right.
Gojo pointed at Maki with his hand. “This is the cursed tool user, Zen’in Maki. She uses special tools to exorcise curses.” He turned to Toge. “This is the cursed speech user, Inumaki Toge. He can only speak in rice ball ingredients, so good luck conversing.” Said student raised a hind in greeting. “This is panda.” He added bluntly.
“I’m Panda. Nice to meet you.” Emphasized the puppet.
“And last but not least. The most experienced in cursed energy and the current strongest student in the school, Kimura Akio. He’ll be in charge of teaching you when I’m not around.” Announced the withe haired man pointing at the remaining student.
Even if you are around, though the tree other students.
“What do you mean by ‘current’?” Even though his words came bluntly he had a smile on his face. Fortunately for Yuta, the teenager’s calm posture with his hands in his pockets and smile, reassured him enough. “Welcome to the school Yuta-kun.”
“Well, there you have it.” Finalized Gojo, bumming Yuta.
He didn’t give me the explanation I wanted the most, cried the boy in his head. He wanted an explanation about the talking panda.
“Okay, now there are five first-years!” Yuta moved to stand next to Akio, the only one who didn’t attack him before, getting a smile from him. “For your afternoon jujutsu practice, you’ll be working in groups.” He raised his hands showing two fingers in one hand and three in the other. “First, Toge and Panda.”
The mentioned nodded. They’ve already worked together before.
“Maki, Yuta and Akio.” He announced.
Maki made a displeased sound that had Yuta jumping in his place. She just voiced disgust?!
Akio put his hand in the boy’s shoulder in a reassuring way, managing to calm him down, slightly.
“Now…” Gojo clapped his hands. “Go get ready.”
Without a word, the first years walked out of the trashed classroom to retrieve their things, all expect for the Akimura boy.
“I thought you would be in charge of supervising Yuta’s first mission. Why am I teamed up with him?” Asked the younger of the two once he was sure the others wouldn’t hear them. He leaned against the rim of a window. Sending two special grade sorcerers to keep Yuta in check seemed like overkill. If he was going that meant Gojo wasn’t.
Gojo’s smile dimmed slightly. “Toge and Panda are stronge, but I have a feeling the elders want to measure Panda’s capabilities.” His tone, as well as his expression, soured. He didn’t like the idea of his teacher being the elder’s target. “Their condition to Yuta’s freedom was someone capable of stoping him supervising his first week of missions. They want to know if he has a chance at controlling Rika. That’s where you come in.” Gojo turned his face to look at Akio, even though they had bandages and shades on, they looked into each others eyes. “I need you to guide him while I watch over Panda.”
Akio stayed silent for a moment processing the severity of the situation. A young boy’s life and their school’s principal were at stake.
The red headed nodded once. He won’t fail. “I won’t disappoint you.”
I know you won’t, thought Gojo relieved smiling softly.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
After an awkward drive to their destination, where Maki looked out the window to avoid looking at the newcomer sitting next to her and the red head kept himself busy with his phone in the copilot sit, they finally arrived.
Yuta almost sighted in relief until he found himself confused by their location.
Maki and Yuta followed the red head currently occupied with his phone, exchanging messages with Gojo at the opposite side of the country.
“Am, excuse me. Where are we?” Asked Yuta finally braking the seemingly endless silence.
Akio and Maki stopped and looked at him over their shoulders. Maki huffed before continuing, leaving Akio to deal with the rookie.
Akio smiled softly at the boy. But not even that reassured the boy after what he heard. “This is an elementary school where some children have gone missing.” He informed before continuing walking after Maki, forcing Yuta to do the same to not be left behind.
“M-missing?” Flinched the boy.
Akio nodded not looking back. “It happens in places like this. It’s probably the work of a naturally-occurring curse.” The young sorcerer stopped once they reached Maki. They were finally in the right place to start. In the middle of the school’s yard.
“You’re saying the kids were kidnapped by a curse?”
The Kimura boy nodded as he looked at Yuta again. The poor rookie looked really out of place. “Yeah. Two children have gone missing so far.”
“Curses tend to settle in spots that many people have memories of.” The males turned to Maki once she decided it was finally worthy to speak. “School, hospitals… Places often remembered with negative emotions are a receptacle for them. As those emotions build up, they cause a curse to be born like it was here.”
Akio turned once again to Yuta, directing his words to the shorter boy. “That being said. We’re here to exorcise the curse and save the children, or if they’re dead, retrieve them… that’s your current mission.”
Yuta paled instantly. “Huh? Dead?”
“Unfortunately, Yuta…” he said as he fixed his shades in his face, momentarily showing him his glowing eyes and loosing the smile. “There’s no such a thing as a good curse.” He said in huskie voice.
Yuta gulped at the red head’s stare, he’s scary, he thought.
“Now, pay close attention to what I’m about to do. You’ll have to do it yourself next time.” Kimura lifted a hand and raised two fingers, chanting the words required. “Emerge from darkness, blacker than darkness. Purify that which is impure.”
Yuta looked up at the sky, in awe and confusion. There was a strange liquid-like thing spreading and obstructing the sunlight. “It’s turning into night?”
“It’s a veil. It’s a barrier that will smoke out the curse and keep you all from being seen by those outside. It’s easy to undo from the inside… Well” deeming it the right moment to leave, Akio turned around walked back from where he came from. But not without telling them some last words. “Good luck you two. And by the way…” once outside the closing veil he looked at Yuta over his shoulder. “Don’t die.”
Yuta stared sweating cold and panicking, die? Like, die die? I can’t die on my first day of school, right? Can I?
Outside the veil, Akio leaned back against the black car and took off his shades. Imbuing a little bit of cursed energy in his eyes he was able to see the signatures of those present inside. Curses and humans alike.
Maki’s, whose energy was barely visible, moved swiftly between the low grade curses, making them disappear in one move.
It never ceases to amaze me Maki’s talent with cursed tools, thought the Akimura boy as he smiled.
The next minutes went by with nothing interesting happening even tho Maki and Yuta walked gallantly in the halls. No curse dared get close to Yuta. Seems like Rika is successfully scaring them off.
Ring
Suddenly, the supervisor was interrupted by his phone ringing. Checking that it was Gojo he answered.
“Hellooooo~” said Satoru’s cheerful voice. “How are my precious students holding in there~”
Akio rolled his eyes at the older’s antics. “Nothing interesting at the moment. Maki exorcised a group of low grade curses a few minutes ago but other than that they seem to be scaring every curse away… or more, like Rika is scaring them.”
Gojo hummed.
“They still haven’t found the kids nor the biggest curse. Though, I doubt they’ll- uh?…” he was suddenly interrupted by said curse appearing, creating a ruckus, and sending his classmates flying through the air before eating them. “…”
“Hello? You there?”
“…”
“What happened.”
“Ummm”
“Akio?”
“The curse ate them.”
“…” Gojo was silent for a few seconds before… “uh?”
Akimura sighted as he closed his eyes. There was no use in watching since the curse’s energy hide those inside. He diced to rely on his sensing abilities. “They are alive in the curse’s stomach, although, they’re not the only ones.” He opened his eyes looking at the now passive curse enjoying its last meal. “They found the kids. Injured and possibly close to death but alive.”
Gojo hummed at the other side of the phone, digesting what he was hearing.
“Maki’s cursed energy seems erratic, tho. Posible poisoning. It’s not acting quick so I’ll give them a few minutes to figure a way out. I’ll interfiere if it becomes life threatening.” He finished the report, his eyes and senses never leaving the curse inside the veil.
“Sounds good~” said the clan head, sounding pleased. “Who knew you could be such a great sensei.~”
“Huh?”
“Keep up the good work. I leave them in your care.~” he hanged up.
Akio moved the phone in front of him, looking at it a few seconds in confusion. What was that?
He pocketed his phone again, paying attention to the action inside the veil.
He didn’t have to wait for much longer. He sensed a great spike in cursed energy before he saw something bursting out of the curse’s stomach. Not something, more like someone, thought Akio watching the gore scene of Rika tearing apart the other curse. That’s scary. He was internally thankful that he was outside of the veil. All the cursed blood flying in the air was stopped by the veil from reaching him.
His attention was brought to the group of kids nearing the veil covering the front gate. Poor Yuta was giving everything in himself to carry the kids and Maki away from the danger. He already promised he would change. He won’t be weak anymore.
Once he crossed the vanishing veil he collapsed, falling forward but instead of hitting the hard floor like he expected he found himself falling into a pair of strong arms.
Completely tired and slowly releasing the hold he had in the kids he looked up, at the owner of the arms. He swears what he saw was an angel. That vibrant flaming red hair glowing with the sun behind and the pair of jewels he has for eyes.
Akio smiled softly at the rookie. “You did it, Yuta. Good job.”
Yuta gave him a tired smile before letting his head fall in his classmates chest. So warm.
It’s been a tiring day.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Akio stud in front of the hospital’s window with his hands in his pockets, watching the sun set in the horizon. His shades protecting his eyes from the light even though he doesn’t need it.
The upper part of his uniform was missing. He gave it to Yuta because his was stained with blood everywhere. Akio was left with his almost skin thigh black shirt but not even the AC directly hitting him bordered him. His cursed technique helps regulate his temperature.
The 15 year old student was busy thinking about something Yuta told him.
“I don’t think Rika-chan cursed me. I think I might have cursed Rika-chan?”
It was something improbable. Only those with innate techniques could do it and Yuta doesn’t belong to any known clan nor is he a remanente of any extinct one. At least that’s what he thinks.
“What’s this, an epidemic? First Yuta was a little blue and now you?” Asked a playful voice behind him.
Akio smiled as he turned to Satoru behind him. “If that’s it I recommend you to keep distance. Your going to get infected.” Gojo smirked once he reached the Akimura’s boy side.
“What ya thinking?” He asked leaning his side agains the window.
The redhead turned to the sunset again watching the last rays of the sun hide behind the horizon. “Yuta asked me something. I don’t know if he tell you.”
Gojo remained silent, intrigued by what he had to say. Whatever Yuta said must be important for Akio to take his time to think about it. Gojo got comfortable in his place, turning his back to the window, leaning his head on the glass putting his hands in his pockets.
Understanding the silent message to continue, Akio spoke. ““I don’t think Rika-chan cursed me. I think I might have cursed Rika-chan.” It’s what he said.” He mentioned, turning to see Gojo’s reaction, but the older one put a hand on his chin in a thinking expression.
“Well… it’s not imposible. In the past, the best age of the sorcerers, there were a lot of powerful sorcerers. Many of them where not affiliated to any clan. They where lone wolfs and not interesting enough to the people like the higher ups. If they had children or not wasn’t relevant to keep them in check. They were forgotten as stories in the ancient data scrolls stored in different places also forgotten. But…” Gojo turned to Akio smirking widely and tilted his head. “You should know about that. After all, you are the descendant of an unaffiliated sorcerer with similar techniques.” Finding funny what he was about to say he got into Akio’s personal space, almost bumping noses. Akio rise a brown. “Sun and moon’s offspring.”
Akio groaned in annoyance covering his ears. “Ugh, who the fuck thought that was a good moniker?”
Gojo threw his head back laughing at Akio.
“No, I mean, seriously. Who fights with curses and thinks “oh, offspring is such a good complement for a name.” Who does that?” Argues Akio.
Gojo sighed in bliss at the young boy’s distress. “Those who have seen your techniques and your partial domain expansion can attest to that.”
Akio froze for a moment, blinking once. Blinking again before… “Aaahhhh, it was you.” He exclaimed irritated. No one other than Gojo has seen his work with his domain and survived. The only other once to witness it where curses that are already dead. “That fucking moniker stuck.”
Akio jumped to Gojo, trying to grab him by the head but white headed man jumped back, out of reach, and raised his hand in his known hand sign to activate his technique. “Bye bye~” he snickered before disappearing.
Akio clenched his fists and took a deep breath. “SATORUUUUUUUUUUU.”
He was scolded for yelling in the hospital.
