a/n: y’all these requests are taking forever i’m so sorry, i promise i’m trying 😭🤞🏻 but when i tell you this was so fun to write, bc i am the most oblivious person in the world and i truly felt this on a personal level.

You’d noticed all of the little touches, the soft glances, and quiet words Matt had directed towards you, but you didn’t exactly know what was happening. You’d asked Nick and Chris if they knew anything, but even if they did, they just told you it was nothing and that Matt was weird. If he had feelings for you, he never said it. He’d always been affectionate, but recently it just felt…different.

Especially now. The two of you were laying on the couch, Matt’s arm over your shoulders and your side pressed to his, the both of you boredly watching the TV in front of you. He was stiff against you, which you were confused by, but you ignored it. He pulled away from you and grabbed the remote, pausing the show and turning slightly to face you. You furrowed your eyebrows, Matt sighing softly and dropping his head.

“Okay.” You said, pushing yourself to sit up and crossing your legs. Matt was wringing his hands together in his lap, the natural shake of them almost intensified as his eyes flickered around the room.

“I have something I need to tell you.” He said, your eyebrows raising slightly as you wracked your brain for what it could have been. He sighed and finally met your eyes. “I like you, and I have for a while.”

You blinked as you processed everything he said, your mouth opening slightly as you leaned back against the couch again. Every instance where Matt’s behavior struck you as odd, every time you caught him looking at you and he looked down, and every time he’d be touching you he’d be stiff, suddenly made sense.

“Ohhhh.” You said, Matt’s eyes going wide as he pushed himself backward on the couch, trying to put as much distance between the two of you as possible.

“I’m sorry, I understand if you don’t feel the same or don’t want to hang out anymore, I just thought I’d tell you, because it was something I didn’t want to hide from you anymore.” He rambled, your eyes meeting his. You furrowed your eyebrows, confusion crowding your original obliviousness.

“What?” You asked, searching Matt’s face for any indication of why he apologized. It hit you suddenly and you shook your head, resting your hand over his. “Oh no, I do like you, don’t worry about that.” You said, Matt’s eyes finally meeting yours again.

His cheeks were bright red and his eyes were wide. “Seriously?” He asked.

You grinned and nodded your head. “Of course I do, I’m just oblivious.”
