Lucas actually looks up to who he's talking to. He vaguely recognizes the face as someone semi-new. Seeing a child helps. Larry? Lauren?
Lucas stands. "Sorry. We just encourage people not to get too close to the woods. Sheriff Lucas Miranda."
He steps forward, offering his hand.
He glances over and smiles toward the kid playing.
Reaching out toward a plant, Lainn delicately brushed the tips of his fingers on his outstretched left hand against the stem, before moving it to glide along the leaves. Frowning a bit, he remembered what his classes told him about the type of tree in front of him. Before he plucks a leaf right off and moves to stand in on the quick succession of moves.
Glancing over, he could see his son, playing and brought the leaf up to his nose, sniffing it before absently twisting it between his fingers and turning to move away a bit, spotting someone a moment or so later. He quirked an eyebrow at the other's assumption that he was looking to hunt, taking note of it, he gave a nod of his head.
Lainn turned his head, keeping Tali in his view, who remained close to him still before saying, “Well, I don't really hunt.” Holding his hands out, he gives a lazy shrug at this, before continuing to toy with the leaf in his hands and going on, “Do you?” Lainn inquired before turning his head back away from the stranger, listening to Tali come closer as he explained the type of plant he was now holding. Lainn gave a nod of his head, commenting gently toward his son, “That's correct. It's a pretty cool find, Tali.”
As Tali grinned at Lainn's words, before he moved a little ways away once more, to look at more of the plants in the immediate area. Lainn looked toward the stranger again, then around the wooded area before them, “It's pretty, this place. This type of biome is great for all kinds of discovery. There's probably loads of strange bugs here.” Lainn commented offhandedly. He had always found swampland and the like to be almost mystical.
Lucas watches them for a quiet moment then nods.
"Okay, makes sense. Do you remember anything right before? Or right after? Where you were, what you were doing, any notable things in your surroundings?"
He tries to be slow and patient, but Elm is the first person he's gotten to interview that got taken and came back alive.
"IF THEY WANTED ME TO REMEMBER THEN I WOULD ." there's no hesitation in elm's answer . they toy with their laces . " just like if they wanted to kill me then they would have ." they glance up at him before shrugging, " ... but they don't want me to remember so i don't . and they didn't want to kill me so they didn't ."
Adrien worries he said something wrong. Do El and this Muz guy not like each other?
"They just said you'd be around the shop a lot. You, them, Noah, some other people I think?"
He shrugs but nods at Muz's descriptions.
"Trust me, I'm not a glamorous type of guy. Grew up on a farm. And nothing is really junk. It just takes the right equipment to make some stuff more useful."
He starts to pick through a nearby pile, just to see what's in it.
'El did? Chatty bastard, spreading my name round like that.' That's a joke. He's not sure how but it tumbles clumsily from his brain to tongue and twists into a hard tone he doesn't quite mean. To compensate, Muz punctuates with a loose smile. 'Tell them I want a word.' He scratches the back of his neck, letting out a dry laugh as he then considers the question. 'Scavenger?' he mutters, like he's trying out the word for the first time. 'S'Not glamorous, that’s for sure,' he says. 'More like… picking through what everyone's left behind. Sometimes you find something worth keeping. Most times, it’s just junk, like old bolts or busted pieces of metal that won’t do anyone any good. I uh, I drop a lot stuff in here, to be fair. I think we'll see each other a bit.'
Adrien keeps his distance from the cow, eyeing it warily.
"You sure? I haven't had much personal luck with cows in my life."
His cousins and uncle were in charge of animal care back home. Adrien was never interested in that side of farm life anyway. Not to mention that first week after he moved in with them where the cow literally did bite him. He only got a massive bruise, but it still mentally scarred him for life.
Seems Maude is comfortable, though.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐂𝐊 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐍 was where she spent the majority of her days, diligently ensuring that the animals were well cared for, nurtured, and as healthy as circumstances would allow. Though she had grown accustomed to the pungent odors that permeated the air, she couldn’t shake the anxiety that others might begin to associate her with that unsettling aroma. “You work too much,” they would often say, but for her, it was the only way to distract herself from the fear that threatened to seep into her very psyche.
With a stethoscope pressed firmly against the animal’s fur, she focused intently, striving to discern whether everything sounded normal. “So far, so good, I’d say,” she murmured, though she struggled to pinpoint the root of the issue—the newfound behaviors and erratic mood swings that troubled her. She frowned, glancing up at the observer. “Would you like to pet her? I assure you, she won’t bite.” / ( 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐋𝐋 )
"I can tell," Lucas stage whispers back.
He finally turns around.
"Alright, don't get in trouble. Have a good day."
HER BROW ARCHES AT THE WORDS . she watches him perform the act with her hip leaned against the doorframe and her arms crossed over her chest before saying, " i'll let you in on a secret, luc ." she shakes her head even as she leans in to almost lightly stage whisper, " i was never a fuckin' scout ."
"Nice to meet you," Adrien says with a smile and shaking Noah's hand. "El sent me over to check on things for them."
Adam shrugs and giggles.
"I guess it could be worse. Could definitely be better but could be worse."
Adrien walks in and looks around. There's a car already up on the lift. He walks up and studies what's going on under.
"This your project or El's?"
"Easy there!" Noah smiled, raising his hands in a 'no harm done' gesture. "Didn't mean to give you a heart attack."
He eyed the newcomer for a moment , giving him a friendly smile. "Noah Adler. Mechanic. Well -" He shrugged his shoulders. "I fix things, anyway." He stepped forward, offering a handshake, a big of oil still smudged on his hand from earlier.
"So you're new in town... I don't know whether to say welcome or apologise," he laughed. He hadn't been here long himself, so who was he really to say anyway. "Welcome, I guess." he tipped an imaginary hat.
Adrien clocks something odd in the way Cherry brushes off his offer but shrugs it off.
"I mean nice, really likes cuddles. Six-pack isn't necessary. A bonus but not necessary. And I guess willing to like be patient when I admit I'm new to stuff?"
Then he groans, blushing from embarrassment.
"I'm so cringe, aren't I?"
" OH, I'M — " CHERRY WAVES A HAND . " not really lookin' for anythin' right now, don't worry about me ." she tries really hard not to focus on the twist in her stomach, instead focusing on nudging adrien with her elbow . " but what about you, champ ? huh ? what's your type ?" a nod as she leans back to ask . "what am i lookin' for ?"

Adrien groans as he slowly pushes the car down the street towards the Chop Shop.
He'd found this while doing a scavenging run with Muz yesterday, just to see what it's like. Everyone he'd talked to was busy today, so he'd worn his tank top, jeans, and sturdy boots today, got the car into neutral, and was slowly pushing it through town.
It had been fine for the first five minutes or so, but now he's mentally kicking himself for not just being patient and waiting for people to help him.

Adrien is hunched over the engine of the truck, trying to gauge what all is salvageable and what could be modified to be salvageable.
They'd had a few cars brought in from the junk yard after the leaders and sheriff's department got everything useful for the community. Now they're stripping what they think can be useful.
"For a truck from the '80s," he calls out, "it's in pretty good condition. Almost a shame to tear it up."
He climbs out with some valves, carrying them over to the piles they'd started to keep things vaguely organized. Then he glances over to El.
