⠀ born in the arms of a drugstore clerk and a deadbeat father who liked dogs more than his own flesh and blood, romeo was destined to turn out horribly . growing up in houston in the most outdated, two bedroom house an alcoholic and former showgirl could afford, he learned pretty quickly that he was basically on his own . by the age of seven, romeo was already stealing small meals from corner stores and cooking them on the stove while the house was empty and only when the no one was there because he hated sharing . neither of his parents deserved his appreciation .

⠀ whether by the grace of god or by the hands of the devil, a domestic dispute will result in his mother finally leaving his father and moving the two of them in with his grandmother . to the elderly lady's shock, this will be her first time seeing romeo as her daughter left home one night and never gave an explanation as to why . mona, his grandmother, dotted on him in a way he's never known to exist . seeing how well her mother and son got along, jihye decided that well ! that's my cue to go back ! just like years prior, she'd leave in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again .

⠀ romeo was a problem child . he flipped off adults who nagged, had a really bad stealing habit, cursed out other kids despite having a stuttering problem but he loved to crack jokes and be the center of attention . most of this behavior led him to befriending other class clowns and older kids who smoked behind the school and stole bikes around the middle class neighborhood but, unfortunately for romeo, he'd always end up taking the most heat when they got in trouble . mona desperately tried to steer him in the right direction but it was a school fight in middle school ( maybeeee someone was jumped... maybeeee romeo jumped in bc he was bored idk ) that led to him getting expelled rather than suspended due to the principal having enough of his antics . mona sorta gave up on getting him re-enrolled seeing as she saw how happy romeo so she did the next best thing : made him a church boy .

⠀ he was nowhere close to finding god but he was getting closer to having faith ! which, to me, is what mona really wanted her grandson to have . romeo was still an issue though: shoplifting, getting involved with drug dealers, etc . his favorite hobby, however ? grand theft auto ! blame it on the video games but 16 yo romeo loved a good carjacking . after hot-wiring his first car in a blockbuster parking lot, he took it for a joy ride but ended up in his first traffic chase that resulted in him getting busted . since then, he started hanging around a local pothead and mechanic originally from miami who took him under his wing . the two often stole cars, and depending on the day, they either rode around in the sto-low, fixed it up and changed the appearance, or turned it in for parts to a shady used car salesman . over the course of a few years, romeo had mastered the art of car theft and getting away, as well as learning the backways and alleys around his part of houston to avoid the police .

⠀ his grandmother falls ill in 2004 . doctors are being too vague about her health so in his eyes, it's not looking too good for her . mona starts telling him about extended family ⏤ he had two uncles : one had no kids but was a business lawyer, the other had a family and lived down in ▊▊▊▊▊▊ . romeo typically brushed those talks off but when one night, after helping mona to bed, he got the courage to reach out to them like she wanted . turns out, he had a cousin in florida who he was assumed to get along with . the two got in contact, but romeo never reached out for a backup plan, instead making plans on meeting up and getting to know each other soon . he didn't want to part with his grandmother just yet . he had yet to make her proud .

⠀ sadly, it wasn't his choice to make whether she lived or not . shortly after her funeral in '06, romeo continued staying at her home until finally deciding that he needed to get away from it all . he packed up some of her more sentimental trinkets including, but limited to: her worn out bible she's had for decades, a cross pendant with the words "my dear saint" on the back, their family photo albums, and an obituary that can still be found in the glove compartment in his car . so he takes off to miami and surprises his cousin with his permanent move . they share an apartment and for a while, shared a car until romeo got back on his feet and got accustomed to the city .

⠀ except he never got back on his feet ⏤ hell, he was never on them to begin with . miami was the hot spot he's always belonged . the clubs, the hotties, the excitement . what more could he have wanted ? with his cousin being associated with the street racing scene, he introduced romeo around, allowed him to mingle and make his own friends but it was clear that his interest lied with the races . craving wasn't even the word to use for how bad he wanted - needed to be in one of those cars . his opportunity came but not in the way he expected; while driving his cousin's car and treating them, someone pulled alongside him at the red light and challenged the two to a impromptu race . now, romeo's evaded the police a thousand times, but racing was different . he wanted to be a show off, prove to the people on the sidewalk that he could take a seasoned racer on anytime, anyplace . the two engage in a lap around south beach and romeo is trailing behind but he's so close, he can feel the victory as they near the finish line . without a second thought, he drifts his car at the perfect angle, practically sliding on the road and weaving his way in first . after he won, he was gifted the honda s2000 and now had a ride of his own while also gaining the nickname ice from a random guy who was clearly impressed by him . "mannn, your drift was so smooth, you were slidin' across ice!"

⠀ romeo's only been in miami for 9 months but he managed to 1. ) get kicked out of body for fighting off a drunk who was bugging the girl he was chatting up, 2. ) getting featured in a music video completely by accident, bumping up his myspace followers and his rep around the city, 3. ) started a fight with a rodani boy and gladly fought dirty, and 4. ) managed to get associated with the nariza bois without even noticing due to just flocking with most of their crowd . he's not a racer, choosing to not tie his racing rewards and ego with a group of people, but he does become an import model simply because the rides were hottt . while he doesn't have any direct loyalty to the crew, his main rule of the game is that, "me not fucking you over is my loyalty . take it or leave it ."
