TW: divorce, self doubt, abandonment, blame
Since childhood, Daphne has been in the shadow of her fashion designer mom and her musician dad. While she was proud to be the daughter of two icons in their respective fields, she always wanted to be more than ‘Donita’s daughter’ or “Henry’s kid’. She didn’t get any of her father’s musical talent or her mother’s eye for fashion trends, leading her to believe she could never be successful. When she saw the internet become more popular, she capitalized on her chance to be a star, independent of her parents joining social media at a young age and becoming a large influencer with her good looks and sassy charisma. Daphne modeled all of her mother’s clothing except for her designs featuring live animals, instead encouraging her to use animal-inspired designs, which she did later at her daughter’s insistence. She tried to convince her father to allow her to use him in videos, but he always refused, so she eventually stopped asking and made travel content from her being with her mother constantly. Daphne loves to travel and is fluent in Greek, Spanish, and French in addition to English, something she has been able to use to her advantage in her travels.
As Daphne grew older and more mature, her relationship with her mother blossomed while her relationship with her father struggled. She always viewed her Dad as her protector and #1 fan, even when he was off on tour in a faraway land. Henry always took her side when arguing with her mother, and insisted that everything he did was for her. Their relationship completely changed when her parents divorced and he married Allison. Daphne saw the whole ordeal as a total blindside and was upset with her mother, wanting to live with her dad full-time. Allison was another fashion designer, although much less established and respected than Donita, and often compared their work, insisting her’s was better. Allison hated the idea of Daphne and how she was a link to Henry’s more successful ex-wife and took it out on Daphne, saying she would leave Henry if Daphne lived with them. Daphne tried to convince Henry that she didn’t like her and was mean, but Henry refused to listen to her and asked her why her mother was filling her head up with lies, choosing Allison over Daphne, a recent pattern. They began to see each other less and less, particularly after her half-siblings came into the mix. The only reason Daphne comes over anymore is to play and interact with her little siblings, who are obsessed with her and want to be just like her, much to their mother’s disappointment. Henry was too busy with his new family for Daphne, and that shattered her heart. She began to question if love like the fairytales was even real if it was all made up or worse, not made for her. All the relationships she had, felt like the boy was using her for fame or money, making her question her own sense of self, independent from her job and family. She felt like she didn’t have hobbies of her own separate from her work, and her friendships felt one sided, with her putting in more work than she was getting. Who is Daphne Donata? Why couldn’t she answer such a simple question?
Henry felt bad about his relationship with his oldest daughter but truly believed that Daphne was lying about Allison and was jealous of her half-siblings. He instead began to focus on teaching his other children his talents, trying not to think about Daphne too much, even going as far as to delete his social media to not see her on his feed anymore, at Allison’s request. He also feels a lot of pent-up anger towards Donita for putting him in an impossible position, pushing his daughter away from him because of her issues with him. He resented her for never compromising in their marriage and for putting her work ahead of her family and marriage. The divorce wasn’t entirely his fault and he needed her to stop acting like it was and to get over her superiority complex over everyone, especially him. One day he wants to reunite his two families together and have everyone get along, but in the meantime, he is focused on being a better husband and father to his new family.
They’re so cute!!! I feel like Daphne and Angelica would be kindred spirits (the would be total glam queens together). I love their looks, you did a great job with their designs and expressions @lovelybakerandconstructionworker !!
Ok! I made all of the children of Yssa and Rex. Meet the little chicks of the Sandovals!
Meet Esmeralda Miranda Sandoval! The firstborn and most reckless! She's had more accidents than all her siblings combined! Just like her papa. ( born October 24th )
Meet Nunzio Luis Sandoval! The second born book worm. Quiet little guy who just prefers books over playing. He takes after his mama with his looks. ( born May 17th )
Meet Angelica Bella Sandoval! The third born and the total glam girl. She gets along great with her aunt Miranda (Rex's older sister) and looks just like a younger version of her nonna Angelica (Rex's mother). ( born July 12th )
Meet the twins, Vitaly Antonio Sandoval (left) and Violeta Ysabella Sandoval. These cheeky twins are always pranking the family every chance they get. They live up to their birthday title of April Fools. ( born April 1st )
Daphne goes on vacation
(Violet, Vera, Varina, Vallen, Victor and Vallen belong to @jokerislandgirl32 )
Under cut due to length
Daphne was excited to finally go somewhere. She hadn’t been on a large family vacation like this since she was a little baby, but after weeks of convincing, she was finally going to the beach with the Varmitech family. Her mom had to work, so she wouldn’t come. Daphne was excited to go somewhere completely alone for the first time, even if it was with a family friend. They were going to the beach, a place Daphne loved but went to less often than she’d like. Once she had double checked her packing and spoke to her mom about what to do, she left to go to the beach with the rest of the Varmitechs.
Daphne was pleased to discover she had her own room, close to the Varmitech’s suite, where everyone else would be staying. She was happy to have her own room but still be close to everyone else. She plopped onto her bed and then began to unpack. After she had changed into her swimsuit, a yellow and purple bikini, she joined Zach, Vera, Varina, Vallen, and Victor to go down to the beach. Violet and Victoria opted to stay in the hotel and meet them for dinner in a couple hours.
Daphne had fun running in the ocean with the other kids and playing, but she wasn’t used to the chaos that came with them. She was an only child so she wasn’t used to the craziness that came with siblings. But, Daphne had a ton of fun in the sun with everyone. She managed to convince Zach to be ‘buried’ in the sand, which she enjoyed doing. After he got out of the sand, they all walked to meet Violet and Victoria for dinner. Daphne was worried about dinner, she was a picky eater in general and had a shellfish allergy. She managed to figure it out though, and had a nice dinner with the Varmitechs. They insisted on paying for her meal, even though she brought money from her mom, because she was the guest.
When everybody got back, they discovered that they forgot to put on sunscreen, much to everyone’s horror. Daphne was significantly tanner, and everybody else was red as a tomato. Zach got it the worst, he looked more like a lobster than a human. He was whining to Violet, and Daphne went to her room as Violet began to apply aloe vera to everyone’s burns. In that moment, she felt grateful to not really burn as easily.
The vacation was overall great, and Daphne felt grateful to temporarily be a member of the Varmitech crew.
happy birthday! I hope it’s filled with the happiest memories and lots of cake 😋😋😋

Daphne’s life was perfect. She was finally happy. She had to be, her life was as good as it ever had been. It didn’t matter that her dad didn’t say goodbye before he moved in with his new girlfriend Allison, who she doesn’t think likes her very much, and lives in another state now. Who cared that all of her ‘friends’ don’t seem to include her in anything anymore and say things behind her back. She didn’t mind being alone all the time, she had her phone to keep her company. Her internet followers were never mean to her and always seemed to multiply every time she checked her social media pages. They loved Daphne and she had nothing to worry about. Her life was truly a daydream. This is what Daphne was thinking about when she opened her Instagram page to see what the most recent comment was.
@/ImATrollWhoBulliesKids thought she was annoying. Maybe Daphne was a little bit annoying and nobody told her. @/IHateSuccessfulPeople thought she was an ugly attention seeker. Hundreds of comments flooded Daphne, nitpicking her for everything. There were anonymous comments too, telling her how awful she was without ever revealing themselves. Maybe Daphne wasn’t as good as she thought. She really wasn’t good at anything. Daphne decided that she would change herself to be what she thought her perceived audience would want her to be, and changed who she was. It would make the world love her more, it was worth it. It was worth it and Daphne was happy. It was what she always dreamed of. She had to do something drastic, something no one could expect, something different. Then she would be happy and be able to finally be who she had always wanted to be. She would be perfect.
Violet Varmitech was worried about Daphne. She knew the power words could have on somebody and how they could affect them, especially at a young age. She was no stranger to criticism, working in The Lost Colony Outdoor Drama. Her ex boyfriend, Travis, further contributed, nothing she ever did was good enough for him. She began to spiral, going into a dark place, until she met Zach again. He was able to remind her of the amazing parts of the world, and taught her to love again. She loved him and her life more than she could imagine now. Violet worried that Daphne was spiraling headfirst into that dark place, and nothing anybody said would get her out of it. She loved Daphne since the day they met, with Daphne arriving four days later than Donita’s due date. “Fashionably late” as she said. She loved Daphne’s determination and tenacity, and how she can get so focused on a task, much like her husband. Violet even secretly ‘shipped’ Daphne with her youngest son, Vallen. She could tell Daphne was changing. She saw her spending less and less time with her family, and more and more on her phone, alone, reading comments. The comments could be a vile place, and Violet could only imagine the horrid things people were saying about Daphne, someone so kind and determined, and what she was absorbing. She knew she had to figure out a way to teach her about the internet more and fast.
Poor Jimmy just wants to play games

October 4th - Sparks Fly
Get me with those green eyes, baby As the lights go down Gimme something that'll haunt me when you're not around 'Cause I see sparks fly, whenever you smile
My mind forgets to remind me you're a bad idea You touch me once and it's really something You find I'm even better than you imagined I would be I'm on my guard for the rest of the world But with you, I know it's no good And I could wait patiently But I really wish you would
Posting this a day late, but oh well!
Since yesterday was my birthday I decided to include a fic excerpt from one of Violet’s birthdays! It’s either her 19th or 20th birthday, I haven’t decided yet. But I hope you all enjoy it! Putting it below the cut due to length and mentions of alcohol consumption, a few crude comments, and references to a toxic relationship.
I had barely opened the menu when the sound of people singing happy birthday caught my attention. I looked into the restaurant, and saw the girl I was looking for: my Violet.
Violet’s long hair was pulled back in a braid, and she was dressed in a simple off-the-shoulder, lilac sundress with a black apron around her waist. She smiled and blushed as her family and the patrons of the restaurant sang happy birthday to her.
The waitress in front of me huffed and rolled her eyes. I sensed she did not like Violet very much, and I was more than ready to get rid of her, “I know what I want,” I announced.
She pulled out a notepad and looked at me expectantly, I fished out my wallet and produced a $20 bill, “I want the birthday girl to serve me, here’s something for your time.”
The girl’s brown eyes widened, and she stuffed the bill into her apron pocket, “of course, thank you, I’ll go get her!”
VvvvvvVvvvvvV
I was busy thanking everyone for the impromptu birthday song when Nicole ran up to me out of breath, “I’ve got a customer for you, he’s a very good tipper, he just gave me 20 dollars to seat him, and he requested you!”
Nicole usually did not speak to me because she claimed I’d stolen Travis from her, which was far from the truth. I figured she was setting me up for embarrassment, but part of me was hopeful that there really was a customer who wanted me to be their waitress.
I smiled and said, “okay, here’s to hoping he tips me well too!”
“Yeah, you can treat yourself to a nice birthday present,” my cousin Paige winked at me, having overheard the conversation.
“I guess,” I whispered, fixing my hair and going to the table where the gentleman was seated.
When I arrived he sat holding the menu up, covering his face, “good evening sir, can I start you off with something to drink?”
He responded in a gruff, hateful sounding voice, “do you recommend anything? I usually prefer alcohol, but there’s none listed. What type of an island restaurant is this if you can’t get alcohol?”
I felt taken aback by his comment, “I apologize sir, but it is the preference of the owner of the restaurant to not serve alcohol.”
“Why’s that? Is she a prude?” He snickered and something about his voice was oddly familiar. I stood on my toes to peer over the menu covering his face, but he held it closer to him and raised it slightly.
I tried to bite my tongue, but it was no use, I would not stand for whoever this was insulting the aunt who had practically raised me, “Sir, I respectfully disagree with you, the owner is my aunt, and she prefers to host a restaurant where good food and fun can be had without the negative impacts that result from alcoholic consumption. If that is a problem with you, you can go to a neighboring restaurant or bar that does serve alcohol.”
“Ohhh, that’s a bold statement, but I should expect it coming from a sexy little minx such as yourself,” I could hear the laugh in his voice, and I’d had enough. It was one thing for Travis to make crude comments about me, but this man was a stranger, this was unexceptable.
“Sir, I am sorry, but I do not appreciate your comments. They are making me very uncomfortable. If you cannot refrain from saying such things, I will have to ask you to leave.”
“Awww, come on, you can’t ask your friend to leave,” he pouted, lowering the menu enough for me to see jet black hair.
The gears in my mind started turning, who did I know with black hair? And before I could stop myself, I asked, “who are you?”
The man lowered the menu and took off a pair of triangular sunglasses at the same time, his voice returning to normal, to a voice I'd wanted to hear for so long, “happy birthday, Vi.”
I felt a few tears fall from my eyes as I looked at his smiling face. I approached him and he stood up quickly, gathering me into a hug without me initiating it. I threw my arms around his neck as his head fell to the crook of my neck, “I’m so happy to see you, Zach,” I whispered.
I'm so grateful for everyone in my life, physically and digitally. It's been a difficult year for me, but I am grateful for all the blessings I have recieved.
Without further ado,
Daphne's Quinceañera
(I do not celebrate quinceañeras in my culture, although I have been to a few, and apologize if I got anything wrong, not my intention at all)
It was finally here. The day where Daphne transitioned from a child to a woman and Daphne had dreamt of it her entire life… It was less than a week away but all Daphne could feel was dread. The party was perfectly set up, the food was gorgeous and made by Gourmand, a renowned chef, and her dress was breathtaking, handmade by her mother after months of work and research. Everybody felt ready to leave Daphne’s childhood behind. Everybody except for Daphne. She loves her independence, but ever since her relationship with Micheal, a popular boy at her school, ended she was feeling empty and worried that she would be alone forever. She pushed those feelings down and waltzed into her showroom, being meticulously organized and set up for the party of the century. Daphne inspected and approved the decorations, before leaving to call her father. Right when Daphne was about to hang up, Henry answered the phone, sounding out of breath. “Oh hey Daphne,” he panted, “what’s up?” He had been going on a run on his treadmill, his most recent escapade to stay young forever. Daphne reminded him of her birthday to make sure that he wouldn’t miss his flight and chatted with him about her life in school, growing more exhausted and insecure by the second. “Daphne, you’re smarter than this, I know you are. Why can’t you be more like Allison was in school?” Henry questioned after hearing about her most recent Biology quiz. Daphne simply sighed, knowing that Allison could do no harm in her husband’s eyes, and quickly changed the subject. After a few more minutes, Daphne said goodbye to her father and started working on some of her birthday Instagram posts.
Meanwhile, Donita was trying to keep it together, for Daphne’s sake. She wasn’t ready to see her daughter, her baby, become a woman. She could still remember her playing with her barbies, babbling on and on about something or another; now she was talking about relationships and future careers. Donita just wasn’t ready. She knew this day was coming, she just didn’t realize it would come so quickly. Daphne, on the other hand, seemed completely confident and ready to be a woman and make her own decisions. Donita wanted her to be able to have the space to do that, but worried Daphne would make the same mistakes that she did, leading to unnecessary pain and heartbreak. Speaking of Henry, Donita was finally going to see the famed new wife, Allison. The woman who caused Henry to ask for a divorce and caused the downfall of her daughter’s relationship with Henry. She wasn’t sure how she would manage to sit next to her ex and the new wife for an entire day, but for Daphne, she would manage.
Mere hours before the ceremony, Daphne and Donita were about to hit a breaking point. Daphne quietly uttered to her mother, “I don't know if I can do this mom. I don’t want to be an adult yet,” which just about shattered Donita’s heart. Turning to her daughter, Donita had a nice talk with her daughter about all the mistakes she made and who she was at fifteen. It seemed like a lifetime ago, all those crisp autumn days in Greece, with Donita dreaming of leaving to see her life truly start. They both realized that just because Daphne was going to be a woman officially in a few hours, she didn’t have to give up her childhood.
Daphne’s 15th birthday party was one for the books. Her whole night went almost as well as it could have, with only minor incidents occurring between the guests, notably her parents. Donita didn’t end up meeting Allison after all, taking more and more obvious ways to avoid her. Daphne’s dress was as show stopping as she had always hoped, and everyone seemed happy for her. All the gifts she got from her family were so thoughtful and pretty and she was so grateful to have such a wonderful group of friends and family members who really loved her. Growing up was hard, but Daphne Donata knew she could do it.
ahh oml this looks so cute!! 🥰 I’d love to share more about Daphne and her family
