Nil would probably never confess first, at least not willingly. He may accidentally make his feelings known during a long, winded rant or under some form of stress where it just slips out. He'll pause, go wide-eyed and silent for a moment before either storming off (mostly out of embarrassment or fear) or pretending it never happened, simply resuming his rant with a few nervous stammers. He'll fiercely deny any accusations.

Dimitri is most likely to tell him first, mainly to get it over with fast. He brings small gifts- something sweet that he knows Nil really likes, likely homemade, too- and takes him to a decent spot, likely the dock near Lost Lake. He plays it off like a normal hangout, like they're just going to fish and chat like usual, like he's not about to chuck his feelings at his best friend. He gets all quiet before nudging the treats over and easing his way into a confession, as if testing the waters. He's pretty upfront with his feelings for the most part, there's no point in hiding and he's fairly confident that everything would go back to normal if his feelings weren't reciprocated, for whatever reason. Anxiety still eats away at him, however- it's only natural.

Dimitri, being more of an acts of service kind of guy, is always happy to assist. Whether it be homework/tutoring when they were still in high school, helping curb Nil's insomnia, or grabbing all the things he can't reach- he's happy to help.

Nil, however, is reluctant to receive (at first). He believes he doesn't need anyone's help to pass a test, or fix his insomnia, or reach the top shelf at the convenience store. But he does eventually find it's helpful, and not done out of spite or obligation, but rather kindness and support.

Dimitri is the kind of guy to cradle his lover's face between his hands to bring it closer before every kiss, gingerly running the pads of his thumbs over beauty marks and crinkles (super cheesy stuff). Lots of romantic, soft gestures and words that Nil is very new to.

Nil is the kind of guy to bite one's hand off purely out of instinct. It's something he loses with time and he'll eventually let Dimitri hold his face and all that, but he can't seem to maintain eye contact for long no matter how hard he tries.

Nil is so awkward at first, overreacting to every little thing Dimitri does or says. The smallest, brief touches make his face go red and never fail to pull quiet, flustered complaints from him. Dimitri finds it hilarious, for how can someone get so worked up over something that small? Nil insists it's stupid but never tells him to stop.

Dimitri probably offers on multiple occasions to keep Nil company whenever he's out camping in the woods alone. He doesn't give any lame excuses, simply says it's because he wants to spend time with him and make sure he's getting sleep. Nil reluctantly agrees after a while. Unsurprisingly, having Dimitri nearby does help him sleep well, as it always has. The tent is a little cramped but he doesn't mind.

Dimitri is probably a major source of comfort and relief for Nil- he's the one person in the entirety of the town that he knows for sure he can trust almost anything with, and wouldn't judge him for needing a hug or some affirming words. And vice versa- they're best friends before anything, after all.

They still go fishing and hiking and do all kinds of outdoors-y activities together. Nil frequently brings fish and strange finds to Dimitri's door, akin to how a cat does once it's grown fond of you. Of course, everything is put on display in his room- shelves are full of mossy rocks and sticks, little (cleaned) bones from unidentified critters, and there's an abundance of fish in the fridge.

Dimitri tends to gift small tidbits of songs he wrote, most of them about/referencing Nil, homemade baked goods, and wonky attempts at arts and crafts, like rocks with splats of paint and googly eyes to keep Nil company whenever he himself can't (cough university cough).

Nil is just as attached to Dimitri's guitar as he is Dimitri. It's more like the sound of the guitar rather than the guitar itself. He'd listened to him strum it for years and years, playing all kinds of familiar songs he'd grown so fond of. The sound droning on and on is enough to lull him to sleep most days when all else fails and reminds him of memories from forever ago, ones he refuses to let go of.

Nil has plenty of issues of his own that he's left to deal with by himself, especially with a family like his. Dimitri is definitely someone/the only one that he's totally comfortable confiding in about said issues, for he's fairly smart and mature enough to offer advice or at least some comfort, which is typically in the form of reassuring words/gestures and/or a little physical affection. He's, of course, a little reluctant and awkward on occasion, but melts at the slightest initiation whenever it's needed.

Main love language that's shared between them is 'just being', as in doing their own things (or nothing at all) in a shared comfortable silence. Smoking, loitering, driving, fishing, downing slushies, etc... especially if it's before Dimitri leaves for university. All time spent together is quality time.
