By the last week of September, all traces of summer were well and truly gone. There was a crispness to the air that Annabeth knew would soon turn into a biting chill, the kind that seeped into your fingers. With the end of September came the start of the new swim season and the very first meet of the season. Annabeth drummed her fingers against the wheel of her father’s old Subaru Forester, glaring at the stop light which had been resolutely red for the past five minutes. The meet was due to start in three minutes, but she was still ten minutes away from where it was being held.
Annabeth cast another baleful glare the traffic light’s way and stole a sip of lukewarm coffee from her thermos just as the light turned green. The Subaru groaned as she hit the accelerator hard and lurched forward so abruptly that her father’s briefcase fell from its spot in the backseat. She arrived seven minutes late and rushed inside, following the sterile scent of chlorine towards the pool, hoping desperately Percy’s heat hadn’t started yet. There was a heat already underway when she finally got to the pool, which made her heart sink before she noticed Sally and Estelle waving to her from the bleachers. Annabeth made her way over to them, half-jogging, and took her seat next to Sally.
“We saved you a spot, Annabeth!” Estelle said brightly.
“Thanks, guppy,” Annabeth said breathlessly. “I’m not too late, right?”
“No, you’re fine, honey. Percy’s heat still won’t be for a while,” Sally said. “It’s good to see you! It’s been far too long.”

“Don’t be nervous, Monica,” Dr. Delphi says as he nervously adjusts his suit jacket.
Monica looks plainly at her mentor for a moment and wonders if he’s self aware enough to know that he’s not exactly inspiring confidence. It only takes her half a second to know that he absolutely is not, and turns to stare up at the Pallas mansion, of which she has heard countless stories. “Why should I be nervous about meeting the youngest member of the hospital’s board? That’s definitely something that happens every day.”
The front door opens then, and a tall man with impossibly broad shoulders steps out. His blue eyes are so bright Monica feels as though they are cutting right through her. “Follow me.”
Monica glances at Dr. Delphi who winks encouragingly and is the first to follow the scary big man. She does her best to keep her eyes facing forward as they wind their way through the house to the backyard, which opens up before her like a lush green oasis. She feels her mouth drop open as she takes in the waterfall that gracefully cascades down into the pool, the tennis court that stands fenced off further in the distance, and what looks like a walking trail that disappears into a jungle-like copse.
“Ms. Pallas will be with you in a few minutes,” the man says, gesturing to a table covered in a white cloth surrounded by three seats that sits off to the side of the pool.
Monica and Dr. Delphi promptly sit, and the man leaves them alone, disappearing back into the house.
“Okay,” Dr. Delphi says, leaning onto the table and speaking softly. “Let Ms. Pallas lead the conversation, and don’t offer any information she’s not specifically asking for. Got it?”
Monica nods once, her mind racing as she tries to get her bearings. It’s not long before the sound of footsteps approaching rings out and shortly after, a woman with perfect posture, striking grey eyes, and brown hair pulled up into a neat bun is sitting across from her.
“Sorry to keep you both waiting,” she says, her eyes on her phone as she types. She looks up briefly, and holds out her hand across the table. “Athena Pallas.”
Monica pulls her shoulders back a bit, suddenly feeling self-conscious about her posture, as she reaches to take Athena’s hand. “Monica Beckendorf.”

i think its so funny that alumni from schools like harvard and columbia that were there during the protests in the 60s-80s are expressing support for students currently protesting against the genocide in palestine, and random zionists that were NOT at these protests in the 60s-80s have the never ending audacity to tell these alumni "well thats different, what you protested was good and what they're protesting is bad." as if protesters against the vietnam war and apartheid south africa were not also demonized, arrested, brutalized, and even killed for their activism. history only remembers them fondly after the damage has already been done.
Was anyone gonna tell me Vincent Martella, voice of Phineas Flynn on the Disney Channel original show Phineas and Ferb is on some absolute king shit on his twitter or did i just have to see this amazing series of tweets myself?
There’s more just go fucking look yourself
madness of hera au
The throne room was absolutely pristine
The white marble of the pillars seemed to shine, and every pillar that had been broken before now stood repaired
Their cracks filled with pure gold
Percy stared up in awe, his eyes tracing every miniscule thread of gold that seemed to tell a story
In the middle of the room sat what had come to be known as the Reformed Council of Olympians (A name proposed (surprisingly) by Apollo and seconded (even more surprisingly) by Athena) around a massive table
As the clop of Chiron’s hooves began to echo through the room, the Olympians all stood to greet their guests
“Percy,” Athena said as she dipped her head in a respectful hello
Percy placed his hand over his heart and bowed slightly. “Lady Athena.”
Poseidon walked around the table and pulled his son into a hug the way swimmers are pulled into a rip current- aggressively and without warning
“Dad…. Dad, I can’t breathe,” Percy wheezed.
“Oh right!” Poseidon said, setting Percy down gently with a chuckle. “Sometimes I forget how fragile mortals are. Plus I’m just so damn proud of you, son.”
