It Definitely Shouldn’t Escape Anyone’s Notice That The Majority Of “transandrophobia Isn’t Real

It definitely shouldn’t escape anyone’s notice that the majority of “transandrophobia isn’t real and tme/tma language is good actually” people are white. Like there is very much something to be said about a complete lack of awareness of non-white queer people existing, whether they acknowledge it or not. I know full well that everyone posting “trans men are just whiny little uwu soft babies complaining about nothing” are imagining a monolith of trans men/mascs who are all white and will not acknowledge the intersections of oppression that trans moc face. “All trans men have power over cis and trans women” even when the women in question are white. When asked about transphobia facing trans poc, they will mention maybe one or two black trans women they’re able to name to make themselves look like they care about black issues and never mention a single other trans person of colour. Quick, average white tumblr user, name a single black trans man. Name a single black trans male or non-binary artist right now.

I want to address a pitfall I see some of the transmasc advocates fall into when attempting to defend transandrophobia.

Before I get into it, you're absolutely within your right to speak out about oppression and marginalization you face and define language to articulate how these things affect you, I am not criticizing these things when I speak on this.

But when I see the focus on transfems and trans women engaging in transandrophobic behavior, it sounds like the same gender essentialist arguments used against us. Even if you're rightfully criticizing someone for having extremely bigoted views, I don't think making it about their gender identity is helpful. Anyone can be harmful and pick up harmful mindsets. It just seems to make this cyclical argument of "no YOU'RE demonizing MY gender" when nobody's behavior should be reduced to what gender they identify as.

I know transandrophobes make it difficult for us to even communicate transandrophobic behavior by denying that it even exists, but we need to keep using it to solidify its place in vernacular and keep developing on it, making sure to stay away from gender essentialist and bio essentialist mindsets. Gender/bio essentialism is baked into our society, it's yet another internalized bias we need to unlearn. When we hold people accountable for their actions and harmful ideas they're spreading, we can't present that behavior as a result of their identity. It causes the same problems that we're trying to fight against and only weakens our platform.

I think there's discussion to be had when people use their identity as a shield from criticism, which should definitely be called out, but I can't see another justified reason to focus on someone's gender identity in relation to their bigotry.

I don't mean any offense here, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to call this a trend? Like, 90% of my IRL friend group is transfem furries. "[Animal][Girl][Cock]" is not a discourse thing, it's a furry tgirl thing. I've seen plenty of people with usernames that follow this theme who are perfectly lovely people- more than I've seen discourse blogs that follow the theme.

I think a lot of the discourse assholes just also happen to be transfem furries. There's no strong correlation, and it's not causation. Just coincidence.

what are the trends? what are the username trends for transandrophobic posters? any specifics?

Typically [animal][girl][slang term for penis]

(Mandatory disclaimer for those lacking reading comprehension - As implied with the term "trend," this is not 100% an identifyer for transandrophobic trans women.)

pride includes trans men and transmascs btw

trans men and transmascs deserve to be proud of their manhood and masculinity

this is not up for debate

"i am agab" ❌

"i was agab" ✅

"agab" (assigned gender at birth) describes a past event where you were merely assigned a label by a doctor

not biological sex,

and not an identity label.

"trans women HATE trans men. they're oppressing you bc of their socialization" <- this is a manipulation tactic by terfs to isolate you from the broader trans community to more easily groom you into detransitioning (and possibly to groom you sexually too tbh). call it out for what it is

Actually, I have more thoughts on this.

I think the people who genuinely believe this crap are the ones whose only transfem friends are discourse bloggers, and never really interact with the community IRL.

If you hang out with trans women offline, you get to learn what transfem culture really is. You get to see genuine trans solidarity, and spend time with cool people who accept you as you are, regardless of if your identity perfectly aligns with theirs.

But if you don't have that, you think peak transfem culture is that IKEA shark, dysphoria hoodies, and arguing with other queer people online.

Wait are these assholes trying to claim the concept of a dysphoria hoodie was stolen from trans women

Dysphoria Hoodies??? Really? As we know, the concept of wearing a Baggy Article of Clothing to deal with your dysphoria was nonexistent until the first ever trans woman discovered the magic of the hoodie.

Really???

I was wearing those before I knew what being trans was! Shockingly, if you're dysphoric about a part of your body, your first instinct may be to cover it up with easily available gender-neutral clothing... such as, I don't know, a hoodie? But no, those mean transmascs and nonbinaries stole it from women, who would have guessed :(

Guess we gotta add it to the list, along with "cat ear headphones" and "eggs" and "liking anime."
