I just watched the movie and I have to say it was a pleasant surprise. Many had scuffed the movie because it wasn't a bl, but I think it lacked nothing despite that fact.
I liked how the character of Zhong Yi Xiang was portrayed throughout the movie, he was mysterious, but also an open book for the viewers. Most of the times I knew what he was thinking or what he tried to say just by piecing together his reactions.
Gu Tian Yu was more of a mystery to me despite the story being told by his point of view.
I like how after the incident with Zhong Yi Xiang the colours of the movie change from that sweet and nostalgic orange, to more blueish tones.
The scenery is breathtaking, the scene near the waterfall, all the beaches they went to, the houses, rooms and everywhere they stayed at. It might be because I'm majoring in interior design, but it was fun to see all the little details from the door to Yi Xiang's room to the little trinkets he had collected over the years.
I liked how there is a cycle, how the roles change 180 degrees, just so they can both meet each other again.
Their chemistry was comforting to me. They only had an hour and forty minutes and they won me over!
I wanted to rant about this movie. I truly adored it!
I want to draw so much after seeing it!

The last few episodes of The On1y One emphasized the casual public and private intimacy between Tian Yang and Shi Yu because they were more relaxed around each other since there was nothing queer happening between them. They were just two boys sleeping in a bed.
Compared to Wang and Tian who were restrained laying next to each other because they knew their feelings and what it would mean to touch each other.
Because even when they did touch in bed, it was nowhere near the entanglement of limbs that their roommates demonstrated. There was still a sense of self-control.
So because Wang and Tian know, they didn't touch each other like when Wang immediately pulled his hand from Tian even though he did need help walking. It was realizing his feelings, so he didn't want any touch to be publicly perceived as a gay touch.
Which is something that didn't happened between the other boys. So what if someone saw them touch? It wasn't gay. It was just a touch.
And we saw it again.
And again.
Knowing caused a barrier between the boys.
Because that barrier didn't exist with anyone else.
In the end, knowing was the problem.
No matter how many times I re watch this series it never fails to give me butterflies. How can the writing, scenery, acting be so perfect!? I'll never get tired of watching it!
I just wanted to rant because this series deserves so much love. And I feel often it's overlooked because of some more spicy bl series. I love those series too, but this one has a special place in my heart.
At this point I might as well tattoo it on my body. I have watched it so many times I lost the count a long time ago...
