The way most autism literature describes "literal interpretation" is often not at all similar to how I experience it. Teenage me even thought I couldn't be autistic because I've always been able to learn metaphors easily.

In fact, I love wordplay of all kinds. Teenage me was fascinated to learn all the types of figurative language there are in poetry and literature.

But paperwork and questionnaires are hard, because there's so much they don't state clearly. Or they don't leave room for enough nuance.

"List all the jobs you've had, with start and end dates." What if I don't remember the exact day or month? Is the year enough?

"Have you been suffering from blurred vision?" Well, if I take off my glasses the whole world is blurred, but I'm fairly sure that's not what the intake form at the optometrist is asking.

Or the infamous (and infuriatingly stereotypical) "Would you rather go to a library or a party?" What sort of party? Where? Who's there? I work at a library. Am I currently at the library for work or pleasure? Does it have a good collection?

It's not common figures of speech that confound me. It's ambiguity, in situations that aren't supposed to be ambiguous.

God I love Draco Malfoy.

Specifically the fanfiction one. The one who has been changing his views after 4th year, during 6th or 7th year, even the one who started to change after the war.

The endearingly pathetic one who has to take a LOT of time to stand up to his father or to break himself down. The one who has been rebellious from the school years as soon as he realized his bigotry. The soft and vulnerable one, both with the sneer and without it (looking at most 8th year and Post War pieces), although Draco without sneer and sarcasm is not entire Draco to me. The dark and morally grey and grating but still good to his core (looking at The Fallout, Manacled, Happy pills (i think it’s the name?), Rights and Wrongs series). Absolutely vile and dark and unhinged but still good and not entirely evil (Breath Mints/Battle Scars, For your protection). There are so many more but these are the ones I can name of the top off my head.

I love his character, I sympathize with his character. I still want to cry about how much more JK could have done with him in the books. I’m still angry about the deleted wand throwing scene. Give me fucking something, I will go for any crumbs you give me.

The only reasons why i’m not displeased with the supposed HBO reboot, which we haven’t heard about in a long while (which is usually not a good thing), is because i hope they would be able to DO something GOOD about him.

This would have been such a tremendous redemption arc. Instead he turned out mediocre and I guess that’s fine when you think “Well, that’s kind of realistic”. But I done want this from Draco fucking Malfoy character. Literally anyone but him.

God, i’m so thankful to fanfiction. This is my canon and you can’t change my mind.
