My Fav Ship Dynamics : Sapphic Edition

I haven't been in the fandom long but after learning of the Freemance wars, I have something to say.

The interpretation that Gordon Freeman is grooming Alyx Vance or is a predator in some way is laden with misogynistic undertones when you take the time to think about it.

"Surely this grown woman cannot make decisions for herself about who she likes. She must be being manipulated by a white man! We have to protect her from herself!"

It's deeply infantalizing and horrifically misogynistic. Alyx is 24 years old. Dr. Freeman is physically and mentally 27 years old. The notion that she is being manipulated completely strips her of her autonomy.

Does a woman choosing to like a man scare you? Does it scare you so much that you have to turn against her and make her out to be a helpless and naive victim in order to make it better? Pathetic.

It's not protective. It's sexism packaged as modern sensibility and completely deprives a grown adult woman of her agency, sexual autonomy, and maturity.

Also I just want to say I spent years being accused of "transing video games" you know, just cause I was quietly nonbinary in video game spaces, so just openly making shit that says "Yes, not only are the am I trans, but I draw every character as trans and there's nothing you can do about it" is very funny and cathartic to me and me only.

Sanrio doesn’t hesitate to cast their cute spell on any and all anime characters, no matter how surprising the crossover. The latest in that long list are Galo Thymos and Lio Fotia of Studio TRIGGER's Promare, riding through the sky’s with Sanrio’s Little Twin Stars.

A limited-time event for character goods shop The CHARA will sell a line of goods featuring art by Promare character designer Shigeto Koyama, with Galo and Lio in Sanrio style taking Kiki and Lala on a bike ride through the stars. The Little Twin Stars are decked out in the Promare stars’ iconic ensembes, too.

Up for offer are keyrings, mugs, mini towels, mirrors, tote bags, pinback buttons, and a transparent acrylic display piece:

sure, being a rebel acting as a metrocop was awful, but it was your life for years and years. eventually the brutality and violence became apart of the routine… and then suddenly you’re free from that routine.

i’m inclined to believe that barney was thankful for what gordon did, but it had to be beyond stressful to see the life you’d built up crumble that easily. no more safety nets, no more extra rations, no way to inform your friends of raids. his role in the rebellion, and specific use to them was gone.

on the subject… the rebellion probably was a quiet, underground affair pre gordon returning (which fascinates me in a lot of ways that are beyond the scope of this post) and barney as a character seems to be okay with this sort of flow. that’s not to discredit him, the man can very clearly hold his own, but blue-shift is basically “escape black mesa without anyone noticing” simulator, and his role as a spy is in a very similar ballpark to that. i don’t know if he ever intended to be a, ‘public figure’, but gordon sort of forced him in a position where he had to be.

there was no possible return to ‘normal’ life or society for barney because of gordon,
