Bathrobes =/= Kimonos

Kimonos aren’t sacred. They’re for everyone. Just practice drawing them, use tons of refs, be respectful, and have fun. There’s also tons of other types of traditional clothes you can mess around with. Research is your best friend

do you have any tips for drawing a nose when the face is front facing?

This was really fast but I hope this helps:

image

Depending on the shape of the nose, the way you chose to render the contour lines will change.  I used Rose, Quazky, and Glasner as examples in the lower right corner there.  For TH, I generally don’t render the bottom of the nose with a line but with a shadow for simplicity’s sake.  I hope that makes sense.

PS - I made a new brush for rendering technical drawings and I love it. *A*

Oof those action shots are 👌👌👌

Action shots like this one need a lot of planning. Let’s have a look about how I made this scene!

image

MAIN ACTION LINE:

The important aspect is the flow. You have to find a way to make the action easy to understand. I chose the main poses, but all of them are following a base action line. This line can have different shapes and curves, but I chose one that follows left to right , then down: occidental reading flow.

But it’s not over yet!

image

SECONDARY ACTION LINES:

Okay these bad boys make the « oh wow this is fluid » effect. Each characters have their own motion trail, based by the main action line. It mostly affects the elements like the capes, the hair and the particles in that case.

*GASP*

YES, I’m shook too. Battle drawings are so fun to make!

So, You’re Planning On Drawing Characters With Certain Undertones But You Sure Don’t Want To Make

So, you’re planning on drawing characters with certain undertones but you sure don’t want to make some racist yellowface/redface mess. This subject has been touched on a few times, but I figured I’d give my tips to digital artists out there.

Here’s another really quick tutorial from me:

Start with your base colour on a Normal layer.

Open a new layer ontop of it.

On that new layer, use a very pale yellow, orange, pink (or if you want a cool blueish undertone use a slightly purplish light pink) to cover your base skintone with.

Set that new layer to Multiply, and you’re done.

Note: Multiply layers make the colours of the layer underneath it darker, if you’re drawing someone super pale, mess around with an even lighter colour or change the opacity on the layer. Don’t change the layer to Screen or Luminosity, it’ll completely wash out your image.

The undertones in dark skin are a little richer in colour (in fact most yellow undertones in brown skin are more of a golden undertone), so you can make that Multiply colour that’s a darker pastel yellow or red or what have you.

You can also use this trick to show a blush on any skintone as well!

image

(Though, with blushing, you can’t really blush with dark skin, but if that’s what you want to go for anyways, this trick looks way more natural than random pink circles or lines on top)

And if you want more references on undertones on real people, beauty blogs man. They’re the way to go:

Absolutely!!

Absolutely!!

Muzzles are one of my favorite parts of drawing animals/furry characters & really fun to draw expressions for. I always start to draw long muzzled characters the same way, by drawing two circles, one representing the basic shape of the head, and the second where the basic placement of the nose is going to be.

Absolutely!!

From there I sus out the basic shapes without worrying about details. things like the mouth and nose details I always add in last, since theyre less important in the sketching stage than the basic shapes.

Absolutely!!

For open mouthed or front-view muzzles I basically always use the same process.

This same process also works for shorter muzzled characters as well

Absolutely!!

It took me a while to get good at drawing muzzles from different angles & stuff, but once you figure out a good method that works for you its WAY easier than it seems. the most important part of drawing muzzles is just understanding the shape of your characters face.

I hope that was helpful! I dont usually make tutorials but I tried to make this as clear as I could, my sketch process is pretty messy lol.

A guide on my process for colouring like in the Arcana which I developed through studying the style.

Now, this is just for sprites or for neutral lighting. In the case of most memories/CGs, you have more interesting colours to use, but the process is identical. There are just extra steps.

A Guide On My Process For Colouring Like In The Arcana Which I Developed Through Studying The Style.

Using my favourite memories for each character as examples (hopefully, you can tell which ones) you can see this process. All of this happens on layers above the base drawing.

Usually, you set a colour-filled layer to the setting “multiply” over the entire drawing, then using a “screen”, “add”, or “hard light” layer, you add the lighting. Depending on the intensity of the lighting, the outline will be coloured to be lighter.

The shading colour rarely changes, aside from slight hue changes.

Misc advice/tips/tricks below. I may update it depending on if I get further questions.

No one asked but here’s a brief tutorial on digital underpainting and how it can add some extra flavor to your art!

(I got asked this a couple times so just to clarify: I used “overlay” in the second slide… but the rest of these examples are JUST painted on, no effects! Try playing with the opacity on your pencil/water/brush tool to allow the base color to show through!)
