When Lloyd opened his eyes after his meeting with the First Spinjitzu Master, seeing Sensei Garmadon's anguished face was the last thing he had ever expected.
Basically just what if Season 11 involved an overprotective resurrected parent, a chaotic group chat, little shits for adoptive siblings and a green ninja that's probably now tempted more than ever to jump down a cliff?
How did hellspawn react to Lloyd Oni form?
She's just...frozen. There's no way that thing attacking the Overlord is her dad even though she just saw him turn into it, right?
Sure, she's seen him angry before. She's seen him frustrated — she's seen him annoyed on several occasions. But she's never once seen the rage. Not from him. That's never been him.
Yet, it currently is now. And it's... quite a sight.
She ends up seeing it again after crystalized— apparently, one of her grandfather's awkward attempts to mend things with her dad just happens to be helping him further explore and control his Oni side. If Lloyd had his way he'd pull himself as far as possible from that part of himself and never think of it again, but Wu makes him do it with a "Face your fear before it faces you", a.k.a another dose of hated wisdom no one asked for.
In the end, he's standing in the courtyard with the father who made the fucked move of faking his death, and is now letting him help him.
And of course, there just has to be a whole crowd secretly watching even though he'd very much like it if they minded their own businesses but in his experience, nothing ever goes his way.
At some point, Garmadon voices his curious thoughts of whether hellspawn has an Oni form. Lloyd adamantly told him there's no way in hell he's dragging her into this and Garmadon kept quiet...for now.
One night, Lloyd got really violent—apparently Lord G pissed him off so horribly just to get him to turn into an Oni and as a result, he ended up destroying most of the courtyard while attacking Garmadon. His friends tried to step in to get him under control but that didn't work—nothing worked until hellspawn called him fearfully causing him to suddenly stop what he was doing and look at her. Realizing she's genuinely afraid of him, Lloyd turns back.
But as time passed, Lloyd started getting more in control of his Oni form to the point he has no problem whatsoever with walking around the monastery in it. Oni are a LOT more overprotective over their young—which is annoying to hellspawn but his fur and horns are nice.
I need another day of the departed episode but Lloyd just lights a lantern for his dad while staring at resurrected Garmadon
Lloyd: [lights lantern]
Garmadon: Who is that for?
Lloyd, without breaking eye contact: You.
Garmadon: I am not dead. Not anymore, at least.
Lloyd: You are to me.
The Kid
Basically just like Lloyd. Pale blonde hair, red eyes. Kinda has her dad's fangs.
Has a sweet tooth even worse than Lloyd's and Cole's. Lloyd used to give in to her demands until Zane knocked some sense into him about why not to give too much sugar in children.
Of all the ninja and other than her dad, Cole's her favorite. Just look at his interactions with little Wu and you'll see why.
As a toddler, she was a mischievous little runt, and once when lloyd was trying to take something from her, she bit him. Yes, she bit the guy who GAVE her the fangs.
She drove Lloyd crazy when she was an infant. Greenie was literally about to burst into tears when Sensei G noticed one night and decided to help him. In the end, Sensei G had two kids to console. One was his crying grandchild, and the other was his stressed out son.
Her first word wasn't papa or dada. It was sugar. Lloyd still hasn't forgiven her for that, but the others find it hilarious, considering that he'd once said he couldn't love anything more than candy.
Once, she got her hands on Lloyd's sword because of amazing parenting. Yeah...just thank the fsm that Kai was there before she could get other ideas.
But on another occasion, she managed to get her hands on Nya's knives by sneaking into her room on the bounty. The first thing she did when she toddled out was chase a shrieking Jay while holding them. My poor man was hysterical.
Because of her father's request, she was kept out of the spotlight all her life. The media didn't know Lloyd had a kid until after Stiix. And yup, that just means the fan girl craze in S6 was even worse.
She used Montrositea on a plant during Wu's Teas. And it also went after Jay.
Lloyd
Poor bean suffered some minor hair loss in S3-pre S5. Half of it was because his kid kept pulling it while the other half, was actually the result of him often pulling at it in frustration at how hard it is to raise a mini version of himself.
But don't worry, he's fine now. (Kai just threatened to kill him if he even dared to touch his hair for no reason, and Pixal recommended some other ways to help him calm down)
At first, he was really hesitant to let her ride with him on his dragon because of the fear of her falling off. However, when he saw Cole give her the ride she'd been asking for quite a while and nothing happened, he finally stopped being paranoid. (It totally wasn't because he was jealous of Cole)
Funnily and sadly enough, the first bedtime story Lloyd ever read to her was Jack the Rabbit — a.k.a, the book Wu read to him in Season 1 in Never Trust A Snake — a.k.a the one about not trusting snakes. Well to be fair, she could've also inherited his brain cells and stupidity and do the same thing his nine-year-old self did so.....yeah, this is completely warranted.
He sews his kid her own clothes when he has the time — we all saw his sewing skills in that Darkley's episode — he's good at it, guys.
Sometimes, he wonders if there will be a day she'll inherit his element and he'll lose his powers. Not that he's being selfish — he's just worried about how he's going to continue being a ninja without his powers. He had a kid young so he's going to lose his powers young. That's kind of a tough pill to swallow, especially considering how he was at the beginning of S9.
He often thinks that he's the worst choice of a parent but despite that, he still tries his best. Even if he knows he's still trying to figure out things.
Nya
Hellspawn usually calls her Aunt Ni, because when she was younger, "NI-YA" was a lot harder to pronounce. So Ni just stuck.
She's the best aunt — who also won't hesitate to reprimand her little brother's offspring when necessary. And give Lloyd a piece of her mind for enabling her on some occasions too — which are a lot of occasions, actually.
Nya loves dolling her up, you know? Helping her do her hair, buying her clothes etc. And she teaches Lloyd different styles to do it himself when she has the chance (cuz this dude was panicking the entire time of not knowing how tf to do hair)
She taught hellspawn swimming when she was really young. Kai thought she was trying to kill her lol.
Also, she constantly loves cheekily comparing how raising S1 Lloyd was to helping to raise his hellspawn. Lloyd's daughter is a little better behaved than the 'lil terror Lloyd was, so she guesses somebody must be doing a good job, then.
Kai
Kai often gives Lloyd some tips about childcare since he practically raised Nya himself.
He told his honorary niece about the time Lloyd had a wannabe overlord phase and demanded candy from an entire village, so Lloyd put green dye in his hair gel.
Ever since he made Lloyd a sword, hellspawn's been pleading for him to make her one. Jay always begs Kai to not do it each time (well to be fair, the poor guy's still traumatized from that one game of tag. we can't blame him)
She spends the most time with kai during winter because that's when this man feels like a fucking furnace. Like, she'll just lie in his arms with no intentions of leaving them until the season's over and not even Lloyd can take her from him.
Jay
Jay, being the Master of Lightning, was the one who comforted her when she was afraid of storms.
Just like Lloyd, I believe this man has a candy stash...and one day when she couldn't figure out where her dad hid his candy after she found it the night before, she decided to go after Jay's.
Jay and Nya teamed up to build her a little toy for Christmas once. She loved it so much that she threw it at Lloyd to show it to him and it hit him squarely on the face. (ouch) But the toy survived though!
Cole
The favourite uncle, self-explanatory.
Won't hesitate to pick her up when she asks. She really likes sitting on his shoulders since it's higher up than the others.
She actually likes it when Cole sings, and the Glow Worm song is her favorite. Jay's just convinced that the song had damaged her hearing at some point which is probably why her ears love Cole's singing. Oh well.
When Cole was a ghost, she was sad that he couldn't hug her like he used to but she eventually got used to it. She then ended up loving running into Cole and phasing through him whenever she could and since Cole was a ghost for more than a whole year, it was hard to make her remember the fact that running through him right now wasn't such a good idea.
Zane
Zane taught Lloyd some tricks such as the one where parents blend vegetables into smoothies so kids don't taste it. Lloyd's first thought was that Zane had definitely done this before when he'd been younger, while Cole remains horrified to this day that his favorite cake contains beetroot.
Zane often helps her with her homework when she doesn't understand something.
During summer, she does the same thing she did with Kai during winter. And Nya's the only one who can get her off him, mostly because hellspawn can just ask her to splash her instead.
Ok, so according to the Tommy, the main reason why Jay isn’t an inventor anymore is because (and this is the exact quote), “Between Jay, Nya and Pixal there were too many characters with that profile.” Aka, there were now too many techies on the main cast to warrant a need for them all, so that part of Jay’s character ultimately got the ax.
Now while I can understand why three techies could be frustrating to work with from a writing perspective, I would like to offer a compromise to this conundrum, as I still firmly believe it was a bad decision to get rid of what’s arguably Jay’s most redeeming and defining qualities.
So, here is my proposal…
Why not have Jay be the “wacky” inventor of the team, while Nya and Pixal remain more refined and practical?
Jay wasn’t just an tinkerer. The guy grew up in a junkyard, meaning he’s used to making almost anything out of what’s basically scrap metal. In the earlier seasons, Jay would build about anything that simply popped into his head, just because he could. He and his entire family even had weird inventions and made up terms for pretty much everything there, no matter how absurd. This is unlike Nya and Pixal, who both have much sleeker styles. Jay is creative and an out-of-the-box thinker, which was one of his greatest strengths.
Have Nya and Pixal tag team and build the main vehicles for the team back at the monastery while Jay is able to spruce something up with limited supplies when they’re out on a mission. His methods aren’t always conventional or practical, or even the prettiest, but they almost always do their job and get the team out of a sticky situation. That way they can all still have that “mechanical” side, but just now suited for different roles, balancing everything out.
Okay, so I know as authors we always look back at our old works and cringe because of how many things we would change if we were to write that now, but you guys ever look back at a work and find a particular line or two that you just love? Was looking through some of my old works and this line had me cracking up for like a minute straight, idk why
If you guys have anything from your stuff I would love to see it too! Funny, angsty, doesn’t matter- just take a bit of time to revisit your older works!
I just had to do this.
Lloyd's not going down without a fight.
Inspired by this post:
Of fucking course
What sick bastard doesn’t
My favorite headcannon is that Lloyd really liked keeping plants until christofern came along. After that, they just cause him rage.
“UNAGAMI WILL CHOOSE YOUR OPPONENT.”
Lloyd watched the screen in front of him flip through various characters for him to potentially face off. He was shocked to find that many of them were people he knew from his life, and more importantly, people he was reluctant to fight–either friends like Clutch, or especially bad enemies like Aspheera. He thought he even saw an image of Harumi flicker onscreen for a second, and his heart did a little leap as he feared what he would do if he had to fight her.
The screen froze and disappeared before he could have a good look at what opponent had been chosen for him. Rows of glowing blocks materialized in front of him and formed a person.
Lloyd took in a sharp breath. He felt so numb, he almost dropped his sword.
It was worse than Harumi. Much, much worse.
In a quivering voice, he softly called, “Dad?”
It wasn’t just Lord Garmadon. It was Sensei Garmadon–uncorrupted, with two arms, gray hair, and a friendly smile. His eyes were soft, unlike the harsh red glow in his oni form, and he wore the same robes he had passed on to Lloyd the night he sacrificed himself. The wrinkles around his eyes crinkled as he smiled at the green ninja.
“Lloyd,” his father greeted warmly.
Lloyd’s limbs shook. Many emotions flashed through him at once–pain, nostalgia, yearning–but he chose to focus on his confusion. “You’re supposed to be corrupted,” he said.
Garmadon walked toward him. Lloyd knew he should have been tense, but there was too much comfort in that warm smile, and in the slight limp in his gait that Lloyd had grown so familiar to in his years spent training in his dojo.
“That monster is not me,” Garmadon promised, then spread an arm out for a hug. “I’m sorry. We have a lot of missed time to catch up on.”
Lloyd felt a sob push its way to his throat. He knew it wasn’t very leaderlike, but tears welled up unwillingly in his eyes. He dropped his sword and embraced his dad, and suddenly he felt twelve years old again, hugging his dad after a long day of training to use his golden powers and fight without fighting.
There was a dull pounding on the forcefield around the arena. Jay was yelling something inaudible past the barrier, but none of that mattered to Lloyd. All that mattered was soaking up the soft silk of Garmadon’s robes, the warmth from his form, and–
A sharp pain flared across Lloyd’s back. He cried out and pushed himself away from his dad. Garmadon stood back, and in his hand was a dagger dripping with pixelated blood.
Lloyd gripped his injury and stared at Garmadon. “Dad…what…why?”
Garmadon’s expression didn’t change. He still wore that warm smile and those soft eyes, but paired with the dagger, they had become unnerving.
“I’m sorry, son,” Garmadon said, not sounding sorry at all. “I have to do this. Surely you understand.”
Lloyd looked up and finally noticed the red health bars that had appeared above both their heads. A pain squeezed at his heart, more painful than the injury in his back.
An opponent. He was an opponent.
Garmadon stabbed him again, too swiftly for him to see, just as skilled as the real Sensei Garmadon had been. Lloyd hissed. The health bar above his head shortened.
The green ninja hurriedly picked up his sword from the floor and held it aloft. The two fighters circled each other slowly.
“You don’t have to fight,” Garmadon said, his voice as smooth as running water, same as Lloyd remembered. “Just surrender and turn back.”
Lloyd glimpsed at where Jay and Nya stood, trying fruitlessly to pound their way into the arena and yelling something Lloyd couldn’t hear. He knew what they were trying to say now. This wasn’t the real Garmadon, and Lloyd knew it.
But it looked like him. It sounded like him. It even moved like him. The way the sun shone against his skin and made his hair look like glowing silver made him seem realer than any photo he had of him.
Garmadon lunged again, and Lloyd narrowly blocked his blade. He knew he should attack back, but the weapon felt heavy in his hands. The tears in his eyes were threatening to spill over.
It was cruel, as simple as that. Lloyd would have gladly fought harumi, or even his dad in his corrupted form, but this…
“I can’t,” he croaked, his eyes stinging and his chest sobbing. “I can’t fight you. I don’t want to.”
But the lines of code wearing his father’s face left him no choice.
Lloyd and Lord G are my coping mechanism. I'm also on FFNet and AO3 And yeah, I can't draw.
