Today would have been Susana Parrado's 72nd birthday.
Susana was 20 years old when she boarded Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 with her older brother, Nando, and her mother, Eugenia. Eugenia was killed in the initial crash, but Susana survived despite severe internal injuries. Despite her devastating prognosis and the lack of any real medical care, she lived for 8 days after the crash.
The team captain, Marcelo Pérez, set aside rations of chocolate and creme de menthe for her from the group's extremely limited food stores. As soon as her brother, Nando, awoke from his 3 day coma, he dedicated himself to Susy's care, holding her to keep her warm, feeding her, rubbing her feet to keep her circulation and talking to her.
Susana lived for 8 days after the crash, dying on the 21st of October in the arms of her brother.
The happiest of heavenly birthdays, Susana 💛💛💛

I love putting my cards of Bones and Spock into cute little photo holders as if theyre kpop idols.
Nils-Gustav Pålsson, 14 years old at the time, and his brother Jan-Erik who was 3 years older, went to see The Who in Örebro. Jan-Erik had arranged a photo-permit, and before the show he went backstage to talk with the band members. He was invited to a party at the hotel afterward.
After the show, Nils-Gustav went home, while Jan-Erik followed The Who to the hotel. But the manager at the hotel had obviously heard of The Who and the party was canceled. Jan-Erik took the opportunity to invite them back to his parents’ house.
Nils-Gustav:
“I had fallen asleep when the doorbell rang. Thinking it was my brother who had forgotten his keys, I went to open it in my pajamas. When I opened the door, I stood eye-to-eye with John and Keith. My brother and his friends had hidden around the corner. I was of course very surprised. But my brother and his friends stepped forward and everybody came in. We all had tea - it was all we could offer. John and Keith were very polite. They gladly posed with us kids on the sofa. Afterward, they walked back to the hotel.”
