I AM SO GLAD PRIDE MONTH II IS HERE AND ALREADY SO EXTREMELY BLESSED. #GAY SPACE ROCK WEDDING AND WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO HASBRO?!?!???
FIRST THIS!!!! AT LIKE LAST SECOND OF PRIDE MONTH
And then barely a week later we’re blessed with Rollercoaster of Friendship. The like, most blatantly gay special so far.
*enthusiastic squats*
THIS SPECIAL WAS SOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!
Firstly, I really do sort of like the freedom Equestria Girls has right now with the whole set up of the premise that they’re still doing their thing but also there’s now Equestrian magic swirling around everywhere and sometimes causes problems. The villain was eh, not nearly on the same level as the movies but that’s fine and to be expected and holy crap tbh, YOU CAN ONLY HAVE SO MUCH OF THAT BEFORE IT STARTS TAKING AWAY FROM THE WONDERFUL ARCS THEY’VE DONE SO FAR!!!
Still though, Vignette Valencia was a really good an interesting villain. Firstly, #cathartic that the villain in this special was an instagram star (I say that totally non-involved and granted there may be something going on there but this character was set up legitimately to feature the worst aspects of that) fajdlfksjdlkfjs. And then also secondly that through that premise they used it to address a very important issue and teach a good lesson that a lot of kids are sort of dealing with today, in particular, younger girls; of course also to be noted that THIS HAS NEVER BEEN SPECIFIC TO ONE GENERATION OR WHATEVER, but they used this example to make it more concrete because it’s more relevant. With the whole thing of her phone being possessed by Equestrian magic, it’s a very blatant point they’re trying to make about calling into question how much of you’re life you’re living legitimately. How much is lost behind a filter? What is popularity and how much does it cost? The whole thing behind Vignette’s motive was that she needed the “perfect” life– her personality was very much determined by what was deemed popular. She likely chose Rarity for the job not just because she posts good fashion but because she has a lot of followers, she makes note of that, she likely ignored Applejack’s application for an apple stand because she’s like never on social media. Point is, with the phone it was very well done how whatever she took a picture of, instantly disappeared and then she could edit it into whatever she wanted but what came out of that wasn’t real. She wanted to take a picture of a salad to have 10,000 likes but SHE COULDN’T EAT THE SALAD AFTERWARD! The thing with everything she took a picture of turning into holograms and her obsessive way she went about it all has something to say about the notion of popularity. She was obsessive with that notion that it became a matter of striving for some sort of arbitrary ideal of “perfection” and what was essentially approved by the masses. She was very vain in that she wanted the approval and attention given to her by the masses but in order to get that it required her to live a life that was disingenuous and that was ironically made concrete by the fake salad and later the Rainbooms. There came a moment later in the resolution where they sort of asked her, with her thousands of followers, if she was happy and she disclosed that she doesn’t even really have any real friends. There was a contrast there and talked about in full in the song how popularity does not equate to happiness because Vignette had that and she wasn’t happy– instead it shows the main 7 and they’re happy because they’re genuine. They’re being who they are and they have each other and they’re doing it together and they are honest and open and supportive– they’re legitimately happy and they didn’t need to strive for the approval of some faceless crowd or have to sacrifice anything or who they are to be that.
It’s an excellent lesson for everyone but also particularly important with kids growing up because in the search on how they will find and develop their identity there is a lot of pressure on them from that, like arbitrary popularity or the idea of “coolness”. (I’ve talked extensively about that)
OKAY, NOW THAT I WENT IMMEDIATELY INTO THE HARD-HITTING STUFF OF THE SPECIAL, NOW TO EVERYTHING ELSE!
There were some parts that were SO FREAKING FUNNY AND RIDICULOUS OMG FJJSJFKSMFKXDJF
Applejack just like, legit, not understanding or caring about larger social media culture is big mood jsjdnxmgjd 👌
THE FREAKING STRESS SALAD!!!! EIVKMXGMJDJFKVJDKRM
Fluttershy: …can I eat the stress salad?
OH– THE FREAKING PHONE– IT GOT SOME CHEEP AS MAGIC OR SOMETHING AND IT JUST TELEPORTED EVERYTHING INTO JUST A WHITE ROOM IN THE PARK ISJFJSKGKSKFKVDJ
Applejack: MASTER HACKER!
Their faces when they found out they were just in a room
All of them realizing if Vignette got mad and took pictures of the crowd of 50,000 to put them in there, THEY’RE PROBABLY GOING TO DIE. Pinkie Pie: SQUISH CITY!!! Everyone else: YEAH LET’S GO WITH THAT!!!
Rarity and Applejack realizing their sisters will be in that crowd: FReAkING oUT
FREAKING APPLEJACK AND THE OLD SECURITY GUARD!!! lsdjkfjslk
Applejack almost got arrested but then the guy realized it’s a “Fun Inspector” badge, and is all like, oh I’m sorry!! And Applejack is like, wait, and she like breaks trying to explain to him it’s fake and he’s all like– “OHH YOU’RE UNDERCOVER! wink! It’s been awhile since I’ve been fun-inspected!”
SHE TRIED HER BEST TO JUST EXPLAIN THE TRUTH TO HIM BUT IT DIDN’T WORK!
#I’M A FAKE COP BUT I CAN SEND YOU TO REAL JAIL!
LEGIT THERE WAS SO MUCH BLUSHING IN THIS EPISODE AND IT WAS SO GAY, THE HETS ARE S T R U G G L I N G !!!
Rainbow Dash’s and Fluttershy’s rollercoaster date was so cute and gives me so much life. THEY IMMEDIATELY LOCK ARMS!
Rainbow Dash wants to ride a bunch of rollercoasters and when they finally get to the big one she wanted to try, Fluttershy’s scared and Rainbow’s going on about how she doesn’t have to worry as THE FEAR sets in and Rainbow’s screaming at the top of her lungs to stop as the ride starts and Fluttershy has the time of her life!!!! sijcemckskfjsjgnsk FLUTTERSHY TEASING RAINBOW ABOUT BEING NERVOUS IS SO BLESSED!!!!!!!!!
This is so them– I love them so much omg– AND THEN RAINBOW WANTS TO GO ON MORE RIDES BUT CAN’T WITHOUT FLUTTERSHY!!! AAAAA kskgmskfj
I was devastated Fluttershy was the first person something bad happened to.
SUNSET “CATCH THESE HANDS” SHIMMER BACK AT IT AGAIN! Her and Twilight wanted to go play cute carnival things together, aww. ALL OF THE GAMES WERE RIGGED THOUGH and Sunset wanted to be above it but Twilight was all like, come on, and they both wind up getting suckered in bECAUSE THEY CAN’T LOOSE!! SUNSET SHIMMER PLAYS TO WIN!!!! Also, Twilight needs to win, she’s too stubborn and they both get into working out all the math and science too it and spending all of their tickets and some of Applejack’s, Flim and Flam actually wind up feeling bad for them and wanted to give them the prize BUT SUNSET JUST YEETED IT– IT WASN’T ABOUT THE PRIZE ANYMORE, IT WAS PERSONAL!!!!
Vindictive girlfriends getting way into into it slkdjflkds
THE RARIJACK THOUGH HOLY CRAP– the Rarijack was so strong in this special. Literally the entire thing centered with them– they didn’t tell the rest of their friends about it but they were looking to get a job together at the fair and then Applejack got really jealous and also offended Rarity was hanging out with Vignette at the fair instead of her, but she was also trying her best to be supportive omg. There’s some conflict, then of course evil megalomaniac later– Rarity realized what was happening and she makes up with Applejack and they have literally the sweetest scene!!! Rarity: “STOP FLATTERING ME! I’m not finished apologizing!” #CARAMEL APPLE GIRLS TILL THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also omfg, I– just like how fiercely they are there for each other and the moment any one of them is threatened, they immediately stick up for each other and trust each other– idk I had to gush? a little lol REALLY THOUGH– Rarity was so badass in this special at the end there, I love how the main 7 now are basically just full on super hero magic girls now!!!! Pinkie: “Why are they clapping? Do they even know what’s going on????”
hhhhhhh I WANNA MAKE A FULL POST ON ALL OF THE GAY HERE BECAUSE HOLY CRAP THIS WAS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Literally all of my favorite ships. ;u;
THE SONG THOUGH HOLY CRAP– THE RAINBOOMS DID A ROCK BALLAD AND IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!! Really for their first rock ballad it was legit such a gay mood omg. THE ENTIRE THING WAS A DUET BETWEEN RARITY AND APPLEJACK SINGING ABOUT THEIR RELATIONSHIP!!!! Also it was just so beautiful and really well done I HAVE FEELS! “’Cause it’s you. And me. This is how it should be.” I JUST REALLY LOVE HOW IT ENDED ON THIS SONG! And I’m just going to put this line here because it’s really good and important and I love it. “The whole world stands before you Full of things to see Pay attention or you’ll miss it Life’s best is always free Don’t lose sight of what’s important Give more than you can take There’s so much to strive for So many friendships you can make“
Anyway, expect more gayposting to come~ THIS SPECIAL WAS SO GOOD!
G E Y
Okay, one more because it’s really good.
THEY FINALLY WON ONE OF THE GAMES!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH LKFJALKFJASDHKGALDKHADLJHG It took freaking Rainbow Dash. omg
First reminder: MHA is written by a Japanese man for a Japanese audience, and if you can’t even for one second at least try to look at it from the perspective of Japanese cultural and spiritual beliefs instead of projecting your own western ones… good luck, I guess?
Second reminder: MHA is a meta story about the art of fiction, escapism, fantasy vs. reality, and theatre. It’s quite literally a three-act play about fantasy, reality, and the balance of both. It’s about a stage, and character masks, and actors, and the real world outside of the stage, and about fighting against the writer who is too lost in his own fantasy.
Third reminder: visual storytelling is a tool sometimes used to contradict the lines of the story, which invites readers to think about what is actually the truth here.
Fourth reminder: MHA is anti-darwinism and anti-biological essentialism.
Fifth reminder: Hero system was literally created to control quirked population in the post-apocalypse. It’s FOR quirks. Heroes exist to keep population’s quirk usage in check by being the only profession that allows it’s usage, and strictly for ‘good’, while also showing off those quirks to keep population entertained and content with the lie that quirks are accepted, actually! (Aren’t heroes so cool and their quirks are so flashy? See, we like quirks! We accept and allow quirks! Only if you use them for the good of society, of course! You are still not allowed to use or express them if you’re not a hero though, sorry). So. No, you can’t be a ‘hero’ (job) without a quirk, having quirks is A REQUIREMENT for this job.
Sixth reminder: MHA is a sci-fi with fantasy elements. Some concepts in sci-fi aren’t meant to be 1:1 parallels to real life. Quirkless people aren’t a disability allegory, it’s an allegory for any minority in general. MHA is a story about a person from a minority becoming one of people in power and about what effect a person with the experience of being a part of minority can have on others in power, acting as the first falling domino that ends up completely rewriting the script of the story.
Seventh reminder: MHA is about one person’s small actions affecting the world like a chain reaction. One action affects another person, and that person also makes it’s own small action. Everyone performing their small actions together, those small actions eventually combining and creating big results. Concepts of karma and butterfly effect. That’s literally what the idea of OFA is about. Everyone thinking about everyone else even just a little, doing their parts, creating a web and changing the world little by little.
Eighth reminder: the themes, good lord, the themes. Remember the fucking themes, you dumbfucks. My god. One of those fucking themes is the real person vs. the mask, by the way. Which, by the way, circles back to the first reminder, since it’s all about the Japanese concept of honne and tatemae.
Ninth reminder: touch grass and stop projecting.
P.S. ‘Izuku doesn’t want to change the status quo’ - Izuku wanting to save Shigaraki is literally him going against the narrative of the story. Saving Shigaraki IS changing the status quo - it’s another (very big) falling domino that will have a huge effect on the world and the status quo as the result.
- so i have made the decision to trust you
- a horrible decision, really
i have just stumbled upon the most beautiful public document i have ever laid eyes on. this also goes for anyone whose pastimes include any sort of character creation. may i present, the HOLY GRAIL:
https://www.fbiic.gov/public/2008/nov/Naming_practice_guide_UK_2006.pdf
this wonderful 88-page piece has step by step breakdowns of how names work in different cultures! i needed to know how to name a Muslim character it has already helped me SO MUCH and i’ve known about it for all of 15 minutes!! i am thoroughly amazed and i just needed to share with you guys
I think the first Equestria Girls movie and Twilight's experience in the human world can be easily equated to how it feels to be neurodivergent in this world: Nothing makes sense, social rules don't make sense, people don't understand what you're trying to say when you speak, body feels weird, it's like you have to make an effort to move without looking clumsy and awkward, you do things in a way that seems weird or unconventional to others and get mocked/laughed at for it, worried that people won't accept the real you...
The first person she meets is Fluttershy and she stands up for her when she's being bullied by Sunset. Fluttershy (just like in fim) has trouble getting her words out until she sees Spike... who's an animal- SPECIAL INTEREST DETECTED! 💖✧( •⌄• )
Then before she heads off to class she tells Twilight that because the school doesn't allow pets she keeps a few of her animal friends in her backpack. Imagine, if you will, that this is something that helps her to cope with the anxiety that the school environment brings. Fluttershy - to me - here can be read as a neurodivergent person who has learned to mask to get by, "blending in" by not being visible in the first place, and Twilight a neurodivergent person who has not. (I could equate Twilight here to how I was in school before I gradualy stopped being myself and became more quiet to avoid bullies, I learned there was something "wrong" with me and since hiding it didn't seem to work I just disappeared into my head and rarely ever spoke). People tend to be drawn to people that share the same interests, opinions, experiences or struggles, Twilight's first friend at the school was someone who shared her struggle of fitting in, and I think that's pretty neat :)
Well, that's that! ^^ This isn't me saying this is how the movie was intended to be viewed, but a reading of it from my perspective, my autistic perspective lol 💖 (my own personal headcanon is that all of the mane 6 are neurodivergent but I'm not gonna go on about that now or this post will be even longer)
♡ ˢᶠʷ ᶦⁿᵗᵉʳᵃᶜᵗᶦᵒⁿ ᵒⁿˡʸ ♡
if cats aren't meant to be kissed on their heads then what's that little space between their ears for
Just a place for me to keep all my random musings and fangirlingishness... Yerp.
