Hi yes can any hp fans who are trans friendly and anti jkr give me advice on how to deal with the insane hate us hp fans get on here for simply just being fans of hp..you know the posts and type of comments I mean. I have moral ocd and it makes me feel like the worst person ever đ
i don't really think i have a right answer for this, honestly. When you still like hp and interact with it you have to come to terms with the fact that you are adding to the general harm jkr is causing, because whenever you talk about it, even when it is in the context of fandom, you give her attention and might consequently make more people join the fandom who don't yet know about what a terrible person she is and therefore don't have the same understanding that you cannot profit her in any way whatsoever. No buying merch, no streaming the films, no going to the studios, no seeing cursed child, no watching the reboot. I used to think that we're at a point of saturation where everyone already knows about harry potter anyway so me talking about it won't give her more attention, but the fact alone that i've had a couple comments telling me that one of my fics was the introduction to the fandom for them tells me differently.
My general approach is that i make everything about my fandom interaction as easy to block out for other people as possible. On tumblr this means every time i mention any harry potter related things i tag it 'hp', if it mentions jkr i also tag her, so people can easily blacklist these tags if they want to avoid seeing the content at all. I've made new social media accounts to talk about hp because i didn't want to subject my friends, many of whom i know do not want to have anything to do with hp, to seeing anything about it. I don't talk about hp with non-fandom friends without heavily checking the vibe first and even then i attach a bunch of disclaimers to make absolutely certain they understand that i interact with this fandom as harm reducing as i can and very much do not support jkr, despite me myself being trans and that therefore probably being obvious.
You can be trans or be an ally and still like hp. Liking hp doesn't make you an inherently bad person. But you have to be aware that whenever someone looks at you and they see that you like hp, they don't have the knowledge that you are a safe person. Their first reaction will most likely be to assume that you support jkr and her views and are therefore not a safe person for queer people to be around. I myself have that same thought whenever I see people in public wearing harry potter merch. If you wear hp merch in public i will instantly mistrust you, despite very clearly also being in the fandom, because you're carrying hp outside of the confined space of a fandom in which people know not to support her.
You deal with the hate you get by acknowledging that these people have a reason for mistrusting and hating you, and by presenting yourself in a way that clarifies your stance regarding jkr while giving them the possibility to distance themselves from any mentions of her or harry potter. You deal with the hate by acknowledging that while initially it is not your guilt and not your harm, feeling some guilt over it is needed regardless, because you are, inadvertently, adding to the harm. You deal with the hate by supporting trans people, by informing yourself about what jkr is doing and what impact she has, by counteracting that impact as much as you can and by talking to people and raising awareness whenever you're able.
um excuse me what the FUCK oh my god????? đđ
Sirius who is back at The Ancient and Noble House of Black after his 4th year at Hogwarts, rummaging around at the extensive family library for more information about Werewolves to be more aware of his best friend (ahem unofficial love of his life ahem)'s "condition", when he comes across a book, almost 350 pages by how thick it was.
âExperimented to the Bone: Field-Tested Methods to Cripple a Werewolf During and Beyond the Full Moonâ
He winced at the title, that was definitely not what he wanted to learn but as he moved to place it back in the shelf, he came across a familiar name.
"By Lyall Lupin"
Sirius paused, because surely not. It surely could not be the same Lyall Lupin, who was Remus's father. But Lupin was not a common name, nor was Lyall. Fuck.
He opened to the first page, to view the year it was published.
"1969"
That was after Remus was born. Like him, he was born in 1960. Every second after he picked the book from the shelf, Sirius fought back bile coming up his throat.
Authors note
As someone who has worked in the "Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures" department of the Ministry of Magic, it has been my great pleasure to write and publish this book myself. For years, Werewolves have been a prime obsession of mine. I've been studying ways and techniques on how to weaken them and then, by Merlin's grace, I was granted an opportunity to study them closely every day, in and out of a full moon for 4 years. And to whomever it may concern, this book is my greatest creation.
As To the viewers' discretion, please be aware. These methods have been experimented on a much weaker Werewolf. The doses and measurements given in the book can be adjusted to higher doses based on the size and age of the creature.
Taking harsh breaths he quickly flips through the book, catching small sentences
"Sew Silver threads along their clothes"
"Stir wolfsbane in their water and let sit"
"Sprinkle small doses of wolfsbane in their food to keep them weak throughout the day"
"When locked in, the creature harms itself during a full moon, be reminded to use cages and shackles made from Silver instead of regular Iron"
The book dropped to the floor. And Sirius heaved on the library floor, much to the dismay of Kreacher who appeared instantly to clean it and then disappeared.
He couldn't breathe, he cried, and he stayed there, almost paralyzed for hours before Regulus came looking for him who took a look at the title and the first page before he dropped down next to his brother to pull him to his chest.
And then Sirius couldn't seem to stop moving his mouth between his cries. Things along the lines of, "His own father" or "He never told us" or "Does he even know?", "Why is he dead, i wanna kill him", "1969 Reggie, he was a child", "I knew he despised his dad, never knew why......i wish i didn't know"
And what was Regulus to do except weep with his brother.
Pick a fun line of dialogue and just cut it there. End the chapter or plonk in a scene break and move on.
Interrupt whatever's going on. You can customize the interruption to the genre of your fic, but it could be as simple as a phone call or a knock on the door or as complex as a parachuting velociraptor wielding a machete. Now your characters have to deal with *that* instead of wrapping up whatever they were doing before.
Find a parallel to another character who isn't there and use that as a transition to write about them in *their* scene. Two characters are mourning the end of their relationship? Smash cut to another character looking at a photo of a lost loved one. Character is in an angst spiral over a decision they need to make? Switch over to someone staring at a coffee shop menu in confusion.
Change the perspective. There's a fight going on and you're tired of writing it? Well, now you cut to a character on the other side of the wall who can hear some weird noises. They can choose to investigate or ignore, as you see fit. You don't want to write smut but your characters are making out pretty heavy now? Their roommate in the room next door decides now would be a great time to take the dog for a walk.
Get to a moment of tension and just... stop. End the chapter. Congratulations, you just wrote a cliffhanger. You can pick up the next chapter at any point you want (conveniently getting you past the tricky thing you weren't sure how to write). Bonus: you might have people yell at you in the comments đ
Ending a scene early is a great way to get yourself out of a block. Conveniently, it's also an interesting way to write a story.
Feel free to add more ideas in the notes.
If you want a new marauders movie/show/reboot then you are supporting jkr and also not appreciating the already beautiful fandom created by queer people for your entertainment for free. Pls leave.

a wolfstar drawing I did back in December
I somehow lost the password to this account and then completely forgot about its existence but Iâm back and Iâll continue posting my art on here :)
i want to write a chronic illness remus fic so badly but every time i try it starts to feel like a diary entry and i have a stop
The way house-elves speak with their exaggerated, broken syntax, subject verb disagreements, and deferential tone bears an uncomfortable resemblance to the way enslaved people have been depicted in film, particularly in movies that glorify the antebellum south.
Take Winkyâs syntax :
âBut I knows Dobby too, sir!â squeaked the elf. She was shielding her face, as though blinded by light, though the Top Box was not brightly lit. âMy name is Winky, sir â and you, sir â â Her dark brown eyes widened to the size of side plates as they rested upon Harryâs scar. âYou is surely Harry Potter!â
Then thereâs Dobby:
âDobby has traveled the country for two whole years, sir, trying to find work!â Dobby squeaked. âBut Dobby hasnât found work, sir, because Dobby wants paying now!â
Even Kreacher, who has a slightly different speech pattern still broadly speaks in the similar affected way.
âKreacher did not see Young Master,â he said, turning around and bowing to Fred. Still facing the carpet, he added, perfectly audibly, âNasty little brat of a blood traitor it is.â
This linguistic pattern is not unfamiliar. Compare it to:
Mammy from Gone with the Wind: Miss Melly, this here's done broke her heart. But I didn't fetch you on Miss Scarlett's account. What that child got to stand, the good Lord give her strength to stand. It's Mr. Rhett I's worried about. He done lost his mind these last couple of days
Or Uncle Remus in Song of the South. âOh, I knows. I knows. Iâm just a worn-out olâ man what donât do nothinâ but tell stories. But they ainât never done no harm to nobody.â
The same tropes are at play. Stilted, infantilising speech. These films, particularly Gone with the Wind and Song of the South, glorify the antebellum South by presenting enslaved characters as devoted, content, even protective of their oppressors.
This is where the argument that house-elves arenât slaves but brownies falls down. If house-elves were truly just magical beings with their own culture, their speech wouldnât so closely mimic the linguistic markers of servitude used in films that softened the horrors of slavery.
Also intended or not this is a racialised coding that was once used to uphold and justify the absolute abomination of slavery and we should be critical of it.
BTW i see these posts all the time like "ohhh i dont know what to comment on fics.." and every response is "keysmashes! or hearts!! anything works :3" and thats GREAT!! thats helpful!!
but: consider. if u genuinely like analyzing writing.. do u know ur just allowed to go through and quote your favorite parts and ramble abt what they mean to u and the author will LOSE IT WITH HYPE?
genuinely. i felt SO WEIRD the first time i did it.. but like. holy shit authors love it. its crack for authors. the first time i did it, it was on a fic that hadnt updated in half a year, give or take, and the author made 3 updates that month BECAUSE OF MY COMMENT.
LIKE. as an author every comment is INCREDIBLE!!! but also, dont feel like your comment has to be short or otherwise ur invasive or smth!! authors ADORE long comments more than ANYTHING.
i dont accept any of this bullshit where remus is cold and harsh and cruel towards sirius in wolfstar fics bc he'd be head over heels, obsessed, pathetically in love !!! this is my pathetic loser lover boy remus lupin
