About ten, fifteen years ago I wrote a story about a guy living in a Capitalist dystopia. His walls, furniture, and tableware are all covered in smart displays. Basically animated wallpaper. It's sold as being able to turn your room or objects into anything - A nice forest view, outer space, a fantasy realm... but the companies that run this stuff keep sneaking ads in.
It gets so bad he's always being woken up by adverts that offer insomnia cures and better bedding that play when he tries to sleep.
So he buys the ad-free tier, and it's great... for a few months. And then he starts getting adverts from 'premium partners'. So he goes up a level... and the same thing happens.
So he jailbreaks his wallpaper and sends all the ad servers to 0.0.0.0 and voila... he can sleep.
Until this SWAT team blows his door off and drag him off to jail. The Ad companies are suing him for loss of revenue for the products he' notionally have bought if he'd watched their adverts, based on some weird 'The average consumer buys X products with an average value of Y' calculation.
The judge is like 'well I dun wanna annoy the sponsors' so he RICO's this guy's house and possessions and sends him to jail.
... which is a nice relaxed non-volent offender jail for the corporately disenfranchised. But because these people have no money... there's no ads and now he's happy because the only place he's free... is in prison.
Which at the time was a bit much and now it's like: Called it.
Elon's suing companies for not advertising because he's losing revenue. He's also cranking the price of Ad Free Twitter. Disney and Amazon play adverts on their paid service when services used to be free because of the adverts... and now you have to pay to watch the adverts or go up a couple of tiers.
And google's going around freaking out about ad-blockers.
kind of obsessed with the idea of the rest of the gaang leaving Toph and Zuko to watch over some cooking food and when they come back its burned and Katara starts fuming but Toph and Zuko are like “we’ve never stepped inside a kitchen in our lives and only have one eye between us, if anything it’s your fault”
Thinking about the parallels and differences between the 501st repainting their helmets in Ahsoka's facial markings and Anakin changing Ahsoka's lightsabers to blue.
I've talked before (although not on here) about how amazing of a characterization choice it is for Anakin to change her lightsabers; it shows so well Anakin's love and genuine care for those he's close to, and it also shows how he oversteps and becomes overbearing or controlling or even manipulative at points. He was thinking about her and so he did the only thing he knew how to do and tried to help even though it was at the expense of imposing his will on someone else. It's so well written.
But I only just realized that the clones repainting their armor is an amazing parallel. The clones are incredibly not imposing or overbearing. They express their appreciation and friendship with Ahsoka by making outward changes to *their* armor. They use some of their little expressive agency, their armor, to show their appreciation for Ahsoka and the fact that they are honored to serve alongside her again.
Both Anakin and Ahsoka of course care for the clones, and form close bonds with (especially) the 501st, but the clones do have a different relationship with the two of them. With Anakin, he is General Skywalker. He is their commanding officer. There is inherently a level of distance between them imposed by the structure of the GAR. But with Ahsoka, they primarily served alongside her, not under her (I know technically as is stated in TCW movie that Ahsoka is above Rex at that point but he says that experience is more important etc etc, but functionally, narratively, they are much closer to peers).
And so the clones change *their* expression to appreciate Ahsoka, while Anakin changes something *of Ahsoka's*
It's so beautiful

I'm watching Total Forgiveness and I'm just really impressed with whatever director or editor decided on this cut
unstable man is given an alien child to adopt to keep him stable, who is the subsequently ripped away from him once they get attached. All while war is happening.
Tell me the plot of this show (wrong answers only)
Yeah I’m two days late but don’t worry about it
