Stricklake Month week one: Myth/Technology

I finished it and man, I am exhausted. But here it is:

So it is just a short little animation kind of thing. It shows Barbara reading an old Book about Trolls and Changelings and finding a depicted of Walter...In a different way...

It took me SO long to do all of that. Anyways, ig you wanna see a little more of creepy Troll Walt then let me know. I would enjoy writting my thoughts and process to his new form. Well anyways, closeup:

Yes I did wrote all of that on trollish...until I gave up. Translation:

Page 1: Stricklander + The winged devil

Page 3: Wings, claws, face, spikes, fangs, horns, eyes

Page 4: an evil and vile creature with claws bigger than swords and sharp tusk that rip through any skin with ease.

What can I say about this scene? How computer-generated pixels showed and portrayed so much emotion, for Merlin, to finally recognize his mistake in not acknowledging Douxie’s potential all along, and for Douxie to unexpectedly get the validation he’d been craving, the lack of which hurt him so much. Because he sacrificed himself to protect his friends and the world, not expecting anything from his master in the afterlife. Yet he gets it, he realizes Merlin sees the real him and recognizes his growth and greatness, and not by any attempt to impress him. It’s real and after Douxie’s adventure, losing his master, sacrificing what was left of him, then sacrificing himself, it’s so fulfilling even though he’s not fully ready to move on. Because despite his bravery, there was still a part of him that was scared. And then he could finally let go of that. And all that is just so wonderfully expressed through the animation, the lighting and soft colouring, which are so amazing and so on point for the context that I didn’t even want to change anything while making those gifs. It’s a moment of redemption, of closure, and it deserved the excellent work done by the creators.

This is just one of the moments in Wizards that will stay with me no matter how much time will pass. And I’m so grateful it exists.

Forgetting Jim...

I just thought of something that really makes me sad…now that Jim is a troll, will they forget what he was like as a human? I know he’s technically both, but let’s face it, there is very very little resemblance to human Jim in his half-and-half form. Even his personality has undergone some understandable changes, though at his heart he is the same.

It’s an established fact that over time, we as humans forget details, even about the ones we love, especially if they’re no longer around. And Merlin blatantly states that “There is no Jim.” Jim as a human? He’s gone for good. He is forever changed, and if he has the lifespan of a troll now…well… 

It’s just really kinda heartbreaking to think that Blinky, Claire, Toby, etc. will start to forget human Jim. Like imagine if one day, for whatever reason, they’re in Arcadia and come across a picture of Jim when he was human. And Claire, or Blinky, or even Jim himself, is just like “Wow, I forgot that’s what I was like.”

They’ll forget what his smile was like. That he used to sound different (though I know that’s the Grave Sand’s doing, not Merlin’s). They’ll forget how skinny his legs were (ha ha). They’ll probably forget what his favorite foods were. There are so many tiny, yet significant things that will be lost to time.

And what really worries me? If enough time were to pass, assuming he can live for centuries, once his human loved ones are gone, what if the trolls forget he ever was human? Like, I’m sure they’ll know it as a fact, but what if they forget the reality of it? What if Jim’s abilities and accomplishments as a troll completely overshadows everything he did before he ever was one? What if they forget the enormity of what he lost, what he sacrificed, in order to save two worlds?

Idk if anyone else will find this as sad as I do, but human Jim to me was such a wonderful wonderful character. I loved him so much, and it still hurts that he was eradicated. As much as I love new troll Jim, I just don’t think I’ll ever fully be over what we lost.

I think I’ve put this off long enough, it’s time for the Jim’s Daylight armour design post. This has been pieced together with what can be found online with acknowledgement that there is additional art in the official artbook and very likely online as well which has yet to be uncovered. It’s already happened with Bular/Gunmar and the twitter version of this also had something within 24 hours so it’s a given at this point.

1. You are responsible for your own media experience. 

2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.

3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.

4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, that’s fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.

5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.
