writing the book was the easy part.
nobody told me how gutting it would be to actually ask people to read it.
to say “this means something to me, will you look?” and sit in the silence after. and then do it again. and again. and again.
i didn’t expect how much of this would feel like screaming into a void in a party dress — trying to be charming, clever, vulnerable, marketable, when all i really want is to tell stories and have someone care.
it’s exhausting. it’s lonely. it’s weirdly intimate.
but i still want it. gods help me, i want it so bad.
white people go like “is anyone going to redesign this nonhuman evil character as a poc?” and not wait for an answer
imagine a goat with a hat
what hat did you give the goat what is the instinctual hat you gave to this goat
I adore this. You perfectly took symbolism and imagery associated with the heart that would usually be framed as comforting, and distorted it in a way that gave me chills. This poem felt extremely powerful because of that, and I love the haunting imagery you've created here.
Cracks are in the molding of the drywall
where my fingers push in the heart
I'm tired of holding
The squelch it makes when it hits the ground
notifies me of my failure and makes my voicebox
attempt to imitate that horrifying sound
My knees slip in the flood of red from it's exit
And I fall in time with it's beating
Gorey giggles bubble from my mouth
when I end up landing face to face with it
Realizing that this is karma's dealing
