Ah the things I have to say about Van. After marinating in ep 3 for a while I have thoughts.

Van is... just a chill guy. Like literally all she wants is to ride the waves as they come and chill. Even when the hallucination starts she's like 'Oh what the fuck' then casually walks up and opens the door. The only thought in that head is, 'Man I'm tired. I hope this ends soon.'

Her hopes mean nothing because this woman has years of trauma yet to come before she gets her little video store to chill out in and after, the universe fucks with her more and there she is getting a cancer diagnosis. Van has literally never been able to catch a damn break in her life and that shows in ep3.

Her reaction to being in remission is so lackluster compared to Tai, partly because she was ready. She was ready to do the whole I want to live my life cancer patient thing and then go on her own terms. She signed that DNR for a reason. She let herself grow closer to Tai again for a reason. Van was done, she was ready to go peacefully and be done with everything going on.

Van is haunted by the things she did out there as shown by her guilt literally manifesting in her hallucination and taking her down with the fire, in s2 she's the only one to acknowledge the damage they caused to Lottie as well.

The words on the chalkboard, the ones about death being the kindest way to loose someone applies to the self as well. All the adult yellowjackets are loosing their goddamn minds over the wilderness. Travis literally died in a very complex horrific accident trying to commune with it.

It's very clear that Van is self-aware and self-critical enough to realize this. Van for all her goofiness has been one of the most grounded yellowjackets, consistently (I'll yap about this another day), it makes total sense to me that this woman is fine with passing away. All the ones who did pass in yellowjackets have been up till now very much spared from the harsh, inevitable future and crippling trauma.

Those who have gone, while their memories were tainted to an extent and changed (excluding Laura Lee) did go with clean consciences. They didn't live long enough to become anti-heroes. At this point that clean swift death is much better than living everyday wondering when the wilderness will come for them.

Y'all my granny is so weird. She basically declared to the family that trans rights are valid and no one has the right to deny them the rights everyone else has multiple times, very loudly. 20 minutes later she told me if I don't get my shit together I'll never find a husband and everyone will hate me, thus I shouldn't wear shorts and learn better posture.

The duality of this woman never fails to surprise me. My actual reaction, shown below.

Fun facts NOT related to Anne Boleyn. Was not blipped. Huge fan of mythology, epics and such. Quotes random passages and makes references no one understands much to their annoyance. Liked epic poems so much, she learnt how to sing them out as they are supposed to be sung. Also learnt, classical flute and guitar to add to the effect. Was dismal at it but practiced enough that she was deemed more than passable and pretty good by people who had to listen to her. Loves to soak in the sun and water, she’s a water baby. Looks and seems normal, is anything but that.

General infortmation : — Born in Bath, England to a history professor and a vet. Her grandparents were French-Indian and her mother moved to England to study history. Her father’s parents were immigrants from India. Her father wasn’t around as much and her mother simply told her he was off fighting in some war, she later found out her mother had been lying and that he worked as a vet in Lancashire and her parents simply couldn’t stand each to be in each other’s company. — She was separated from them at the age of 9 when her parents for once cooperated to get her tested for some genetic disorder. The lab’s doctor was working with SHIELD (but actually HYDRA) medical experts and biologists and upon discovering the x-gene in her DNA sent word to their bosses with haste. Within the afternoon the Boleyns were being told that their daughter had been selected for a medical study and that it was government sanctioned. Her parents caught off guard couldn’t do much at the moment but watch her be led away. — She remained under HYDRA until SHIELD's fall. At HYDRA she was trained in general combat, administration of basic and emergency medical care, multiple languages, making and designing of weapons and armory. As sources suggest her powers may have been subject to inspection and she very well may have trained with them as well. In the chaos that followed one of her handlers bartered her for immunity and she was then “employed” by a Russian diplomat/criminal in Germany by the name of Ivan Petrovich (Black Widow reference for people interested) — Worked for Ivan for a little over a year, she ended up killing him as she was running away. The story of her escape was odd and impressive enough for her to earn the name ‘das Otter’ (the Otter), coined by the guards after her. Further supported by her tendency for escapes at HYDRA. — Spent the next year on the run and making a name for herself as a metal worker. Eventually ended up in Madripoor and running in with the new up and coming powerhouse the “Power Broker”. Her management skills come from this time as she oversaw many operations and business endeavours, even dealing on behalf of the Power Broker at times. — Sometime before the events of TFATWS she moved to Munich to fully take charge of and oversee her forging company and remained there, running her business until after the events of Thunderbolts*, when Bucky approaches her. Her company, Vulcan Forgers, caters to many high profile clientele and specialize in custom weapons, jewellery and movie props.

Let's not forget the fact that not everyone can watch episodes immediately. I don't live in the US and had to wait to watch it. I saw so many people spoiling without a simple 'YJ S3' like three letters and one number would have been enough to keep me out.

Absolutely no hate to anyone, I understand how exciting everything is but let's keep the spoilers on the down low.

Be mindful and try not to ruin the watching experience for other people, everyone deserves a chance to watch it firsthand and enjoy it. A simple spoiler warning and/or a keep reading bar does wonders.

marvel directors need to take notes because thunderbolts is how you continue already established character arcs and add nuance. like we didn't get random retcon or anything, they looked at the projects the characters were in before this and built a story around that and adding to that so we got more susbstance while maintaining consistency. twas very good work on their part
