Before you read, survey the chapters:
Title, headings, subheadings
Captions under pictures, charts, graphs, maps
Review questions and study guides
Read introductory and concluding paragraphs
Read summaries
Questions while you are surveying:
Turn titles, headings, and subheadings into questions
Read questions at the end of the chapters or after each subheading
Ask yourself, “what did my instructor say about this chapter or subject when it was assigned?”
Ask yourself, “what do I already know about this subject/chapter?”
When you begin to read:
Look for answers to the questions you raised in the previous steps
Answer questions at the beginning or end of chapters or study guides
Reread captions under pictures, graphs, charts, and maps
Note all the underlined, italicized, and bold printed words or phrases
Study graphic aids (maps, charts, graphs, pictures, etc.)
Reduce your reading speed for difficult passages
Stop and reread parts that are unclear or confusing
Read only a section at a time and recite after each section (how to recite below)
Recite after you’ve read a section:
Ask yourself questions out loud about what you have just read, or summarize (in your own words) what you read
Take notes from the text but write the information in your own words
Underline or highlight important points you’ve just read
Reciting: the more of your sense you use, the more likely you are to remember what you read
seeing = reading, saying = asking questions or summarizing aloud, hearing = you answering your questions aloud
Review:
Reviewing is an ongoing process
80% of information is lost within 24 hours, but if you continue to review you will remember more for class or for test day
Again I don’t take credit for this post. All of the above information is from a handout I picked up from my adviser’s office.
I’m trying to prove a point to my sister who is convinced that I, a 21 year old, should not be watching cartoons and animated programs.
So they just released the announcement that they are auditioning for the new be more chill cast. I am as hype as anyone else for this musical being brought back to life but the thing that ruins the hype immediately is that people are ALREADY hating the new actors (which haven’t even been chosen yet) cause they wont be the same as the og cast.
We all love the original bmc cast. Will is amazing, George is amazing. Katie, Gerard, Jake, etc. all of the original cast was so amazing but that doesn’t mean the new cast cant be just as good. The new cast hasn’t even been chosen and I’ve already seen people saying things like “no matter who they cast as Michael they are nothing compared to George” or “the new cast is gonna suck compared to the original” and its sick.
We need to treat the new cast with the same love and respect as we do with the original cast. Ofc the new cast aren’t going to be exact copies of the original actors, but the new actors are being chosen for a reason. The new cast is being chosen because the directors think they are going to do something special with the character and bring the same passion to the role as the previous actor did. It makes me sad to see so many people already hating on people we don’t even know about yet because they aren’t going to be exact copies of the original cast
The new be more chill is going to be amazing, and the whole new cast and crew are going to do everything to make it the best show ever for their audience. We need to treat the new cast with respect instead of hating them for not being exactly like the original. The new cast might not be exactly the same as before, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good and that they don’t deserve respect.
Bottom line: when the cast for be more chill is released please treat them with respect because they are going to do everything they can to give you the best show ever
and i call this horrible post: “the seize the day dance break but it’s a bunch of other songs”
Why is no one talking about what happened in São Paulo yesterday?
The sky turned completely black around three in the afternoon partly because of smoke coming from the Amazon rainforest, WHICH IS 2300 KILOMETERS AWAY FROM THE CITY, where the government has greatly increased the amount of land being burned for profit. People are getting sick, animals are dying, native territory is being lost to the flames.
This is what the sky looked like in my city yesterday, in the early afternoon.
It got so dark so fast the city had to turn on the lamp posts and night lighting.
Please talk about this. Reblog this post, non-brazilians especially.
EDIT : i made this post on tuesday the 20th when this was getting absolutely no media coverage whatsoever. stop telling me people are talking about it now. i know.
jackie and tom deserve better
so I got into grad school today with my shitty 2.8 gpa and the moral of the story is reblog those good luck posts for the love of god
