I’m sorry I can’t commit to stuff like this
Please also enjoy my horribly cursed attempt at drawing a possessed HiveWing front view (it haunts my sketchbook now)
personally I love using the book covers as a reference, especially book 8 (which has Peril on the cover) and tracing them, first directly and then by eye. Break it down into shapes. See what moving around and messing with those shapes does. Have fun with it!
I also like to do this if/when I find an artist who draws something in a way I like— eventually you kinda just integrate that style into yours
PS Don’t post the tracings, they’re only for practice
why is it that no matter how hard i try to draw talons, they look horrendous. tips very much welcome.
anywayy, i am almost done introducing the first set of my wof ocs. i only have one more to go so for now, introducing quartz the night/ice hybrid !!
quartz is stormslayer’s sister. after their parents were forced apart, their father took quartz’s egg. he raised her in the mountains, hidden from other dragons since he had two tribes with it out for him. (nightwings and icewings) quartz has rather deep rooted trust issues as a result of hiding her whole life. one day she reunited with her whole family, and now she attends jade mountain academy with her brother, slowly learning that not all dragons want her dead.
profile
name: quartz
age: 18 (human years)
birthday: october 27
zodiac: scorpio
family: glacia (mother) asheyes (father) stormslayer (brother)
currently using a sling to keep my left arm from moving too much and irritating it further. Downside is the sling is very, very old and the strap is disintegrating on my neck, as old foam does
TW: needle mention (no images)
POV: The doctor puts the needle too high in your arm (like, waaaaay too high) and now you get to spend a day experiencing what it’s like to live with one arm (the arm hurts too much to move beyond simple hand gestures that involve no shoulder use)
am taking perverse pleasure in reminding people it's 2025. that's a star trek year. silly little science fiction number. except it's happening, and DANG ain't it underwhelming!
finished jungle and water!!!
The colorful spots on the JungleWing are a very early version of the color-changing scales that we know rainwings to have today
a predecessor to sea and icewings! No ice breath, but can eject hot water or even breath steam.
(my style will not make up its mind…)
tysm!!!
And I agree, 100% with your stocky dragons. When I’m just redesigning the tribes without thinking about evolutions, 100% chonky, floofy Icewings and Nightwings, and 100% Hefty (TM) Seawings and Mudwings. 100000%
here’s the evolution tree for reference! Also explains why Mudwings look so much like SeaWings*
*none of these are to scale

Shoutout to my dad who accidentally moved into an up and coming black lgbt neighborhood and was very disappointed to learn that all of his “new friends” weren’t actually interested in how to use iNaturalist or where he saw coyotes on his walks 😔🙏🏻
I wonder what the F rating was? The lower the more terrifying, because it puts into perspective how much worse it could’ve been.
Tornado vs train yesterday in Nebraska 🤔
