A horn blared and Shun very promptly noticed three things.

One, he was in the middle of the street.

Two, there was an SUV bearing down on him, the distance closing too rapidly to do anything about.

Lastly and by far the most inane of his observations was that a pair of birds were wheeling overhead through the sky.

‘Welp,’ Shun surprised himself with how utterly calm he felt in that instant, acceptance of his imminent fate delivering all anxiety from him. ‘This is going to suck.’

“SHUN!”

His mother was screaming. She sounded horrified, tear stricken, her voice reaching pitches he’d never heard it.

Shun closed his eyes.

A solid force hooked his entire body and seized him, flinging him forward like he’d just been slung by a massive elastic band and Shun squeaked in shock only to have the sound abruptly muffled by a solid chest wrapped in soft cotton.

He looked up only to see Saiki, pale and shaken as he held Shun firm. His eyes were round and his lips were white but within a couple of breaths the emotion was gone.

like the fact that PrEP and PEP just kinda became a normal part of life one day without fanfare is something I think about a lot. Thousands of people died gruesome horrible deaths and now when I go on Reddit or ride the subway I see dinky little ads like "start this medication today so you don't contract/spread HIV! and if you get accidentally exposed there's a different medication for that to keep yourself from contracting!" and it's just an everyday thing. all those people who died fought for it to be this way.

Hey do y’all remember when Boeing fucking killed a guy last year. And we all said “huh I guess Boeing fucking killed a guy” and then went on with our lives. And everybody knew that Boeing had fully just fucking executed a guy and nothing came of it. Like there was no police investigation no justice no nothing. Like literally EVERYBODY knew that Boeing had full on murdered a guy to silence him and there wasn’t any consequences for them. Kinda crazy.
