It's always, "i love him/her/them" and never "I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world"
The reason Annabeth was blonde was literally to fight the dumb blonde stereotype that was popular in 2005 with celebrities like Paris Hilton, Kate Hudson, and Brittney Spears. I was 12 in 2005, and the dumb blonde was an insanely popular media trope. Rick wanted to show that stereotypes of all kinds are unacceptable. That’s why all the kids have ADHD, dyslexia, diverse backgrounds, trauma and quirks that set them apart from other characters in the YA genre. Annabeth was the product of an era, and her physical aesthetics were directly linked to a sexism problem of the time.
You know what the biggest target of abuse is in the US among teens in 2022?
Black girls.
Rick is making an overt point. You will not, under his watch, write off black girls into the same corner. The “sassy ghetto black woman” stereotype needs to end, and especially in a post Ferguson world, it’s more important than ever to showcase a character who defies those stereotypes.
The choice to cast Annabeth as black DOES NOT go against Annabeth as a character. It is the logical next step in her evolution from 2005 book to 2022 screen, and I for one am here for it.
Mentally hitting myself for not wishing Michael_Beloved a very happy birthday.
the only thing keeping me sane currently is the fictional scenarios in my head
I’m still just like
there are literal castles on the dream smp, there are extravagant cities all over the server (made of gold and glamour and overlooked by a god in more ways than one, a city of lights meant to dazzle and charm until those found in it have been bled dry, a beautiful city that sits hollow on the inside), there’s a Mansion bought by the richest person on the server that sits empty.
and the person that phil thinks needs to learn a lesson about not being materialistic is the boy whose lived in a literal dirt hut for well over a year (except for when he was living in a tent on a beach alone for months, of course) who watched his home get destroyed three times, gave up the things that phil thinks he’s too attached to for other people three times, and Got Shot And Died for the sake of his friends.
Okay Peepaw, Okay.

Hot Take : The Heroes of Olympus might be Rick Riordan's worst written series, with the most interesting characters.
Compare this series with PJo. Though it was written in the first person, both the story and characters were three dimensional. I usually have a visual representation running in my head when I read books, and this series became my favorite because I was able to feel the emotions and plot like it was personal.
On the other hand, HoO was much more two dimensional when it came to the plot. Half of the time, most of my re-reads were just skipping to parts I liked.
The characters were the most interesting part in the story for me, and they too could have been much better.
I understand why Leo is a big favorite. The way Leo was written was top tier, and he would have been my favorite if I didn't get distracted by Piper Mclean, and Jason Grace.
Both characters have so much potential, and its that reason that drew me to them.
Piper Mclean was so much more to me, because she was strong and smart, and reliable, and someone the rest went to for comfort or strength. But she was also beautiful, the daughter of a goddess who usually sat in the sidelines watching the drama (that she usually started) unfold around her.
Piper Mclean wanted to take a stand.
Jason Grace was the golden child, the one who was handed the baton, and was told to be the child he should be, and he took it with no questions asked. He was hardworking, resilient, loyal, and he loved his friends so much that he died for them.
He was a hero, and it wasn't because of his father.
All the characters are so beautifully intricate and human, but the writing doesn't allow us to see it.
our team is disgusted by the treatment of kit connor, and in no way condones the actions that have been taken out against kit forcing him to come out. we believe that no one is in a position where they should feel entitled to know the sexuality of an 18 year old, and are shocked that people have bullied him into this point. please note that our team does not support anyone who agrees with what has happened to kit. heartstopper is a piece of media created to be safe, inclusive and a wholesome show about coming to terms with sexuality, gender and identity. the inclusivity of heartstopper is something that we believe should be replicated online and in the real world. the harassment of kit connor completely goes against those values and therefore should be called out. the bullying of the shows stars and continuous harassment with various factors - shaming joe’s appearance, trying to search yasmin’s deadname, disregard of tobie’s sexuality to name a few - goes against our teams values at heart and is generally disgusting and disappointing behaviour. we suggest that you choose not to interact with our blog in the future if you stand for this violation that has happened today.
