How did I miss this?! I have seen this episode more than half a dozen times how the heck- oh right the faceblindness XD
I laugh every time I remember that kirk’s brother was just william shatner in a mustache in tos
To be fair, in her universe 'deceased' basically means 'temporarily unavailable.'
This panel is awesome because not only is it one of the like… 2 references we get to JPV post his Azrael #100 death that show anyone else has noted in any way that the guy kicked the bucket
But it’s also like, comically redundant to write a big red “deceased” label over his head instead of Babs just… removing him from her active back up roster.
Birds of Prey #56 (1999)
I needed this today...now I can put off the self reflection for aaaaaages!
Make rabbits common food animals again, using one of the giant varieties
I'm against fur farming because it's pretty much impossible to produce fur in a way that would be profitable without keeping the animals in absurdly cruel conditions. I'm fine with wearing leather because if the animal in question is going to be butchered for meat anyway, it would be a disgusting waste and disrespectful to not make use of every part of the body.
Therefore I propose that we should try breeding a type of meat cattle that grows a smooth, fluffy, mink-like fur coat for peak efficiency.

"I moved my head to look at the cabinet behind me. When I turned again Sherlock Holmes was standing smiling at me across my study table. I rose to my feet, stared at him for some seconds in utter amazement, and then it appears that I must have fainted for the first and the last time in my life. Certainly a grey mist swirled before my eyes, and when it cleared I found my collar-ends undone and the tingling after-taste of brandy upon my lips. Holmes was bending over my chair, his flask in his hand. “My dear Watson,” said the well-remembered voice, “I owe you a thousand apologies."
(this is in the Watson's Sketchbook series! but it's also a great standalone to send to your friends to illustrate why sherlock holmes is gay)
also - shoutout to @haedraulics for doing a sketch of mid-hiatus Holmes with long hair that captivated my heart so much I needed to include that idea!
Now I'm not saying he's cheating or anything, but he DOES have at least three close friends with magic healing spells/tech/lasers (Zatanna/Superman/Wonderwoman) that could conceivably be deployed such that he maintains plausible deniability. Just sayin'.
DC handbooks are so funny to me. "Batman is in peak physical condition" that man hasn't slept in three days and has broken all his major bones at least twice before. peak physical condition, my ass
Third time's the charm, hopefully :D
Hello! In response to ~unprecedented levels of demand~ for print versions of Watson's Sketchbook Volume 1, I'm doing another print run, and will be opening preorders here on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11, at 9:00am PST/12:00 noon EST/5:00pm GMT.
DETAILS:
-This run is much larger than the two previous ones, but still limited, so being prompt is a good idea. Last time it sold out in 2 minutes, I do not think that will happen this time, but...early bird, etc.
-They will take a bit longer to arrive than previous orders, but should arrive for everyone by the end of January 2025, print- and shipping-gods willing. Thanks in advance for your patience, as I'm working with a small press printer and a small local distributor.
-If your address changes before the book ships, you can always send a message to the shop to update it. In general, any messages or questions about shipping should be sent there rather than by reaching out to me on here.
-I'm really hoping this run is large enough so that everyone who wants one can get it! Thank you always for your support of this ridiculous project that has consumed my life (positive) and for your support of independent art and queer art!
This is so unbelievably true. I once went to a choir concert titled 'Dolly and Holly' (composed of only Holly Near and Dolly Parton songs). Their encore was a lesbian version of Jolene (they had sung the normal one for the opener), and I could never describe why the second version was so much more hopeful. Now I can. (~I'm beggin of you pleeease don't take a man~)
Sometimes you need to let the protagonist be wrong, in a way that's tragic and destructive. Having the main character be completely, utterly wrong about something doesn't detract from the tragedy. Sometimes it is the tragedy. Like consider the song Jolene. The tragedy is not about some breathtakingly beautiful femme fatale waltzing in and stealing the narrator's man right in front of her eyes. It's about the song narrator's own feelings.
It's a song about a woman who thinks so little of herself that she would so desperately cling to a man whom she can't even trust would stay faithful to her. It's irrelevant whether she even has reason to suspect that he would cheat or not, she is utterly convinced that he would leave the first minute that someone prettier becomes an option. She even explicitly states that she could never love again if he leaves her, the thought that she could perhaps one day spend her life with somebody that she could actually trust is not an option.
It's pathetic that this woman is convinced that the only thing she can do is to plead the potential other woman to not give her man the chance to cheat, or to abandon her for an upgrade. It's irrelevant whether the threat she's perceiving is real or not, the fact that she is convinced of it is tragedy in its own right. And the song doesn't even give us any hints of how Jolene herself has approached this situation, there's no mention of her even interacting with the narrator's man. For all we know, she could be sitting there like
I don't even know the original scene, but this is perfect

This is adorable, I had no idea
one of the best things about Pokemon cards is that some of the illustrators have been at it so long that you can actively see their art improve and progress over time
for example, all of these cards were illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, just years apart (1999, 2005, 2017, and 2022, respectively)
