I wanted to make a post about Amanda because I feel she as a character is equally if not more sympathetic of a character as Jennifer
I feel as though many people, fans included (I can't speak for all just those I've exchanged words with in passing and just overlooking in the fandom space) Many people ridicule and downright put Amanda down just like the Aristocrat Club, which is understandable for Viewers and Players of the game. I do agree sometimes, Amanda can be just as cruel as the other children, even creepy, but she's just as much as a victim to the Aristocrat club members as Jennifer and I feel many overlook that. Amanda is trying to survive just like Jennifer, while Jennifer may not "care" about her status in the club, Amanda seems to, she wants to fit in, she wants to be apart of something. She tries so desperately to fit in with the others only to be poked fun at or dismissed Children are unfortunately cruel, and Amanda unfortunately because of not only her appearance and personality she is a common candidate to be bullied and harassed, it's just so upsetting...Seeing her in the intro of the game trying on make up, like many little girls do to feel pretty and seen, Amanda wants to be seen. Amanda trying so hard, so very hard to go above and beyond for the monthly gifts of the Aristocrat Club, sure she may be harsh herself, hiding her findings from Jennifer, sometimes even refusing to help, Jennifer is a more likely candidate to win these small competitions because she in close with Wendy...Amanda has no one, Jennifer at least has Brown, who does Amanda have? Amanda is so talented, sewing up clothing, rags, she's a princess who sews, yet is hidden away, like her diary. Her thoughts, feelings, dreams to fly away like a fairy to shine bright is locked away, away from the harsh treatment of her peers. I don't even feel like Amanda wants to be popular, she just wants to belong and fit in, like many of us, she wants to be apart of a group, to have a friend, even a single friend is all she wishes for... I think that's all I have for this post, let me know your thoughts~ -Belli
A thing I like about Mouthwashing is that the game never "shows" Anya's SA, either directly or through some artistic metaphor, even if the game is full of shocking moments and disturbing imagery.
Not only does it avoid the cliche of using abuse on women as shock value but it also adds narratively to the story.
Most cases of rape end up being chalked up as "he said, she said" and even if people believed the victim many undermine how awful it actually was, because they just weren't there to see it.
When we see the game from Curly's POV that's exactly what happens, there's a part of him that doesn't believe all that has happened, because he didn't see his friend abuse a woman. The dead pixel is a good metaphor, the way he sees the screen has completely changed, but he can't find that dead pixel, same way he can't find the fault on Jimmy. That's why his first instinct was to ask who's the father.
You can't really say "Oh my god, how is Curly so dense? We all say what Jimmy did!" When none of us has seen anything either.
It also shows how much of a piece of shit Jimmy is, because not one moment of his misery sequences are dedicated to even acknowledging Anya's existence, showing that he doesn't even care that he hurt her, he only felt guilty because there was physical proof of his crimes and was found out as a result.
I need to find more games that have a more “Dreamlike” atmosphere, escapism to other worlds is something I always like to explore
I adore fluttering in the air like a butterfly as towering playing cards build a path for me in Alice Madness Returns as I discover my past and the culprit of my misfortune.
I love the nonsense dreams of maze like worlds sealed away by a single door in Yume Nikki
Obtaining merit badges and diving into the mind of my friends and mentors in Psychonauts
A single fork in hand, scampering through narrow corridors with my dog as butterflies illuminate the hall in Rule of Rose
So many wonderful games…I need more
I really just love and enjoy games like this, just exploration filled with wonder and whimsy, especially if there’s the element of unfolding trauma because—psychology and the way the brain processes things is really interesting!
Im so good at photoshopping what
Do you ever see a post of someone claiming to be the biggest fan of something but then spread the biggest misconception or topic on said media they’re a fan of, it’s sometimes baffling where you stare at the post and wonder “where did this come from?” “Did we play/read/watch the same thing?”
PEDESTAL is a freeware investigation and puzzle game by Uri made in WOLF RPG Editor.
One month ago, Cosmos Girls’ Academy student Shiori Natsume was found dead on campus. Though rumor spreads that it was suicide, Aoi Ooe of the newspaper club wants to know if that’s really true. Accompanied by her friend Akari, she begins an investigation to uncover the truth - no matter what may come of it.
Be sure to note the warnings on the page, both regarding the dark topics involved in the central mystery and the theme of the story.
For context: I decided to pass on translating this game a year ago when it came out. Uri felt unconfident at the time whether it would land with English audiences, and given the volume of text, she insisted I didn’t have to translate it if I didn’t want to. But I never really “didn’t want” to translate it; ultimately, I think it just came at a bad time for me focusing on something of this size. I wanted to come back to it someday, so now I have.
It’s important to recognize that this game is something of a departure from Uri’s previous games. Things to do with Japanese high school culture are rather prominent, assuming some familiarity with it, though I’ve of course done my best so that people can pick up on things with minimal external context. In addition, it’s not a “horror game,” nor going for that kind of atmosphere. I’d also say there’s more dialogue and less gameplay, and a good deal of that gameplay involves questioning lots of people to find those who have important information. It’s bound to be divisive, but I believe it’s a story worth experiencing if you’re willing to see it through.
There’s a walkthrough on my page, which I would encourage people to refer to if they want to meet the numerous special ending requirements without having to replay.
