We are in an age of rampant entrepreneurship.  The problem is that most people who claim the title, didn’t start a business.  They created a job.

It is very sexy to tell people you own a business.  Far less sexy to say “I’m self employed”.  Both have merit.  Both are valid.  Both are admirable.  BUT we have to stop blanket title cropping anyone not on salary as an “entrepreneur”.

Business is a tricky beast.  If you don’t have the stomach for it, you should stick to working for someone else.  If you are risk averse, have trouble going “all-in” or don’t handle stress well, stay at your day gig.

The truth is, when you create a job & the money doesn’t get to the level you hoped, you quit.  SPOILER ALERT:  The money is never going to be where you want it.  Even more disturbing, you are looking at a business that requires you to be on the clock to make money.  That is not scalable because you only have so many hours in a day.  

Before you set out on your own, think about whether you are creating a job or starting a business.  Then, embrace & attack the one you choose.
