βΒ Quiet, missy! Cursed pirates sail these waters. You want to call βem down on us? β
βΒ Bad luck to have a woman on board, too. β
βΒ Unless, of course, he knew you wouldnβt believe the truth if he told it to you. β
βΒ I apologise if I seem forwardβ¦ but I must speak my mind. β
βΒ If there is even the slightest chance one of those poor devils is still alive, we cannot abandon them! β
β I know those guns!Β βΒ Itβs theΒ Pearl. β
βΒ Theyβve come to kidnap you!Β Youβre theΒ governorβs daughter! β
β They havenβt seen you. Hide and, first chance you get, run for the fort . β
βΒ I think it would be rather exciting to meet a pirate. β
βΒ We know youβre here, poppet. Come outβ¦ and we promise we wonβt hurt you. β
βΒ I invoke the right of parlay! According to The Code of the Brethren, as set forth by pirates Morgan and Bartholomew, you must take me to your Captain. β
βΒ I recognise this ship.Β I saw it eight years ago on the crossing from England. β
βΒ Iβm curiousβ¦ after killing me, what is it youβre planning to do next? β
βΒ Then thatβs not much incentive for me to fight fair, is it? β
βΒ Curse you for breathing, you slack-jawed idiot!!Β ββΒ Motherβs love, [Name], you know better than to wake a man when heβs sleeping. Itβs bad luck! β
βΒ The gold calls to usβ¦ β
βΒ Thereβs bound to be sailors on this rock crazy as you. Iβll find some men. β
βΒ Youβd best start believing in ghost stories, [Name]. Because youβre in one. β
βΒ The blade is folded steel, and thatβs gold filigree laid into the handle. β
βΒ Itβsβ¦ beautiful. May I inquire as to the occasion? β
βΒ My sympathies, friend, itβs not a matter of luck at all! β
βΒ Had a brush-up with the East India Trading Company, did you β¦ pirate? β
βΒ You are, without a doubt, the worst pirate I have ever heard of. β
βΒ You seem somewhat familiar β¦ have I threatened you before? β
βΒ No. I can not just step aside and let you escape. β
βΒ One good deed is not enough to redeem a man of a lifetime of wickedness. β
βΒ Actually, I find it all fascinating. β
βΒ Man overboard! β
βΒ [Name], I want you to accompany them. Heβs in your charge now. Youβll watch over him, hm? β
β Do you really intend to kill my rescuer? β
βΒ Still abed at this hour? Itβs a beautiful day! β
βΒ I saved your life; now youβve saved mine. Weβre square. β
βΒ That is a wonderful trick. Except, once again, you are between me and my way out. β
βΒ [Name]! Itβs so good to see you!Β I dreamt about you last night. β
βΒ Worry about your own fortunes, mates: the lowest circle of hell is reserved for betrayers β¦ and mutineers. β
β The Black Pearl sails from the dreaded Isla de Muretaβ¦ an island that cannot be found β except by those who already know where it is. β

β A craftsman is always pleased to hear his work is appreciated. β
β You must be a pirate for the pirateβs code to apply. And youβre not. β
βΒ Do not make the mistake of thinking you are the only man here who cares for [Name]. β
βΒ Youβve seen a ship with black sails thatβs crewed by the damned and captained by a man so evil that hell itself spat him back out? β
βΒ I havenβt set foot off dry land I was twelve, when the ship I was on Β Β Β Β Β exploded. Itβs been a sound policy. β
βΒ Bring her in, not too close. I wonβt brave the reef, not until high tide. We lay anchor before dark. β
βΒ How do we expect to find an island no one can find, with a compass that doesnβt work? β
β Youβre in league with Barbossa! β
βΒ What do you say to three shillings, and we forget the name? β
βΒ The trick isnβt getting here, itβs getting away. β
βΒ No. This wonβt work. Iβll stay behind, and fight them. You go on. β
βΒ When youβve led the kind of life I have, there are debts that must be paid. Maybe I can balance the scales a little. β
βΒ You see, Iβve got this honest streak in me, in its own way, a sort of curse. Oh, and thereβs the fact that you have no choice. β

βΒ Get away from there! You donβt have permission to be aboard there! β
βΒ Huh. Last time I saw you, you were all alone on a God-forsaken island, shrinking into the distance. β
βΒ There was a lot of long words in there, missy, and weβre naught but humble pirates. What is it you want? β
β Not steal; commandeer. Weβre going to commandeer a ship. Nautical term. β
βΒ Welcome to the Caribbean, love. β
βΒ We can stay alive a month, maybe more. Keep a weather eye open for passing ships, and our chances are fair. β
βΒ [Name]! Iβm not sure Iβve had enough rum to allow that kind of talk. β
βΒ Youβve been planning this from the beginning. Since you learned my name. β
βΒ I know now where your heart truly lies. β
βΒ Just so you know, [Name] β I donβt think youβre that clever. I think youβre a fool. β
βΒ Youβll be positively the most fearsome pirates to sail the Spanish Main. β
βΒ Thatβs what a ship is, you know. Not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails. Thatβs what a ship need β¦ but what a ship is β what the Black Pearl really is βΒ is freedom. β
βΒ Thatβs why he sent off a piece of the treasure β to you, as it were: so it would never be recovered, and so cursed weβd remain. β
βΒ I have a plan. If it succeeds, then any battle will be decidedly brief β¦ and one-sided. β
βΒ What are you doing? Youβve burned our food, the shade β the rum! β
βΒ And as for how we got off the islandβ¦ ah, thatβs a grand adventure, but now is not the time to talk about it. β
β And though I do say so with regret, the law is clear. The penalty for piracy is death by hanging. β
βΒ Theyβve escaped! There was no damage to the cellβ¦ they must have been set free. β
βΒ Captain [Name] β the Black Pearl is yours. β

Ao3 support was a sweetheart so in case anyone else needs it
Because I don't know who to bother with this.
I'd love to read ao3 on my phone, easy access etc. etc. but the font is so tiny and I am so blind such a big fan of easy to read / big fonts so the question is: Is there a way to make the text of the fic I'm reading bigger? If it's through CSS... how? π₯²
Sincerely, a desperate AO3 reader
So I was scrolling on Pinterest - as one does - and I came across a post stating that the number John's blog is stuck on in I believe ASiB was the same as the year Sherlock Holmes fell into the Reichenbach falls in the ACD canon, 1895.
Now, this in itself is wild, but then my mind brought up another thing I saw a few days ago, a meme on Tumblr (if someone wants the link I can send it)
So
The reason they left London in 1895 (I assume in the same story with the Reichenbach Falls but I can't know for certain) was described as 'circumstances in which I need not enter' or something and people in this thread connected it to Oscar Wilde's trial for 'gross indecency' (aka being gay) which took place in the same year.
N o w, as a reminder, John's count on his website froze on 1895. In this year, Oscar Wilde was sentenced for gross indecency, Holmes and Watson went out of town presumably for that reason AND the Reichenbach Fall of the original stories.
While the number could stand for the original Reichenbach Fall, I don't really see where that would go BUT what if it stands for Oscar Wilde's trial? And for ACD Holmes and Watson being out of town because of it?
In my opinion, if we combine this with the 'Irene ships Johnlock' theory I read on @inevitably-johnlocked 's blog (it's a lot more complicated than that but that she basically knows something is going on), this could be her doing, trying to make fun of them or give them a hint in the right direction. Who knows? Not me, I'm just here to collect the puzzle pieces.

Art Critic: the skull in the corner is artfully placed on the periphery of vision to symbolise the omnipresence of death, important thematically to the artistβs conception of life and mortality.
Actual Artist: aw shit, I got all this negative space, guess Iβll stick a skull there that looks pretty rad.
This came to me as I was lying in bed, not quite awake, and was the thing that made me sit up and open my laptop to write it down
A loved one showed me the movie Blame, a story about humans trying to surivie in an enormous intelligent city that they no longer had control over. Trying to find food while avoiding the being detected and eradicated like vermin. This hostile but indifferent monolith changing around this small community just trying to continue existing. Living on the internet feels like this, but with an even slower level of hostility. We aren't hunted down by killer robots, but instead we are faced with changes that are uncaring and frustrating as inhabitants that live here. A path we once took has suddenly closed or, even more frustrating, now demands grams of gold to open for us. We visit a nearby place where stories are kept and shared, only to find that it and all the people who lived there have been replaced with a big empty hole. New communities sprout up from the collapse of old ones, but we are hesitant to get to know them lest we become invested in relationships that might suddenly vanish; all the while trying not to vanish ourselves. We are living in a crumbling megastructure controlled by indifferent unknowable entities. And while we, the people outside this metaphor, might know the decisions they're making are driven by a desire for profit; it doesn't change how seemly random those decisions seem to us who have to live with them.
Gotta get through this, two more episodes of this weird shit and then... then I'll probably open up AO3 and look for fix-its
This fandom does not have it easy huh
What the actual fuck was that
Huh????
It's like... Sherlock and Mary, featuring John as a side character who is stupid every now and then but otherwise unimportant
And the finale?????? It felt so... staged and John didn't even help? Just call her an ambulance for fuck's sake
WAIT i just rewatched episode 1 and ivy was found "near gristle" and the grizzly bear was found "up in gristle" COINCIDENCE I THINK NOT βΌοΈ
