Something I saw on Reddit yesterday has sent me into a spiral of wonderfulness about Gold Rush.

A reminder of what Taylor said about Gold Rush, that it: “takes place inside a single daydream where you get lost in thought for a minute and then snap out of it.”

I had a theory from very early on that Gold Rush was about kaylor meeting at the Met Gala in 2011. I didn’t have any solid ‘evidence’ of this, but some stuff stuck out. As a refresher, we know that they met and had an interaction at the 2011 Met Gala because a year and a half later Karlie said that this was when the baking date joke first started. They joked about it, Taylor then mentioned it during her Vogue interview Sept 13, 2011, and then Karlie saw it when Vogue was released in January 2012 and tweeted ‘your kitchen or mine?’ Karlie wore a gold dress that year to the Met Gala and then 8 years later, she famously wore another gold dress and captioned her insta post “Gold Rush”.

What really made me think Gold Rush was about the 2011 Met Gala was just the whole way it vibes with the toe storyline, because I think the Toe fanfiction was invented to mimic Kaylor’s actual truth, partly to allow Taylor to write about her experiences and attribute them to joe in a believable way. It’s easier to lie when it’s partly true. So if Taylor first developed a crush on Karlie at the Met Gala 2011, it just smoothly fits into this toe thing, in a way. This is especially true when you add in the fact that Dianna was also there, and then Taylor and Dianna may have started something within days of when Taylor shouted out Karlie in the Vogue interview in Sept 2011, and both Karlie and Dianna tweeted about the Vogue cover in a flirtatious way. You end up with this messy bit of a love triangle type thing going on, not too far off from the mess that was Calvin/Tom/Joe (Karlie) in 2016. Not that I think we can say that anything really was going on between kaylor at this time, but you can definitely see flirting and crushing going on, which fits the toe narrative about them being friends and texting while Taylor secretly had a crush while dating Tom. Not exactly the same of course, but if this was all happening back then it gives her this ability to write about real situations and feelings while being able to attribute it to the boyfriends. And the whole message of Gold Rush is that it’s just a dream and it could never be. And so it was for another 2 years (in the toe fantasy it was just 3 months of her daydreaming about it and thinking it could never be.)

So this was just a silly, fun idea I had until yesterday when I saw this excerpt form her Vogue interview on Reddit. Keep in mind the spring 2012 show took place in Sept 2011:

I also realized that in August 2011, in the same sort of timeframe all this was going on, Taylor wore a Philadelphia Eagles shirt during Speak Now tour 👀

And on top of all that, at this time karlie was getting what I consider to be her first real chance at fame outside of the fashion world, because she got a cover story for Life Magazine, released Sept 10, 2011 (all this going on at the same time is kinda crazy!) And this video was part of that photoshoot:

Okay, so…

I will make a more detailed post when I have a second, but I needed to get the bare bones of my theory out before Red (TV) comes out.

I don’t know much about Swiftgron and we’re all entitled to our own opinions. Don’t like this theory… keep moving. Leave hate on my page and I will “sting like a scorpion.” Deal? Deal.

Bear with me. It’s all a jumble in my head, but listen back and you’ll see I’m at least somewhat on the right track.

It all starts with ‘Enchanted’..

KK was 17 and T was 20 (almost makes me think Love Story could have been about her, too… but I digress).

My theory is that T and KK hit it off and she was maybe still with Liz Huett (who I feel like is the inspiration for ‘The 1’ (insert link to previous post here).

While I’m at it, I’m also certain Folklore & Evermore are their love story told out.

Cardigan: “chase two girls, lose ‘the 1.’” She was with Liz (“the 1”) and chased Karlie (aka Betty/Dorothea) after they met at the Tommy Hilfiger show, and they had a fling until things got messy (see Red Era fighting, realizing the other person is your one, and not reaching out until months later and you’ve both seen other people (cue Swiftgron & August).

After 10 months she shows up at Karlie’s door and they’re ‘Clean.’ No more animosity, no more holding back. They decide to be seen together, “show their truth one single time” (Kissgate) and decide they’re not ready for the war.

1989, Reputation, & Lover all SCREAM Karlie, and after listening back, I feel like Red does, too. I’m adding screenshots of my ‘notes’ and maybe someone else can unscramble this mess in my head.

genuine question, no intention to debunk or anything, just curious:

so, karlie is a model, right? that means, it's a part of her job to wear all the newest clothes and accessories, and then those stuff get sold to other people eventually, right?

isn't it possible that karlie possibly just has worn all of the new stuff already and it is a coincidence that some of those new stuff were bought by taylor because they're trendy or being sold at shops now? would it be likely that karlie and other celebs have matched clothing too coincidentally?

(disclaimer: i have no clue about how modelling or clothes work, i just saw a more eloquent version of this argument against koincidences/kaylor a while back, and wanted to hear your perspective on it. thanks!)

from my perspective, i think that this argument can work as an explainaway for a certain number of instances, but i do not believe it covers the breadth and depth of what we consider twinning.

because it’s not just about what taylor wears after karlie (or visa versa), but when, or for what special occasions, or the particular time elapsing between when things happen, or what taylor is doing while she is wearing said thing, similarity in composition, etcetera. and it’s seeing these things happen time and again, in aggregate, over time, and in combination with all the many other things we look at when we think about kaylor. whittling it all down to the point that models wear clothes before they are trendy is a little dismissive of the thought, intricacy, and planning that we as a fandom also laude taylor for in the same breath. taylor is a mastermind genius who says herself she hides easter eggs in clothing and jewelry… except for anything related to karlie?? hmm.

that is to say, while these explanations against twinning might be convincing if considered in a vacuum, they lack a consideration of the particular context of kaylor, and how people view taylor and karlie’s relationship.

for example, if the argument is to be made that taylor hates karlie and that they are feuding, it is so curious to me how she seemingly incorporates looks that are strikingly similar to what karlie wears into her art (music videos, live performances) which everyone can agree are personal and important to taylor. and if we get into some of the more intricate gaylor insistencies that taylor is broken hearted and karlie is just doing this to make money, well first of all how rude karlie is an established supermodel and businesswoman and it’s not even worth the investment to try and excite several dozen broke tumblr kaylors into spending money 😆 i can go more into detail on this point but i’m not exactly in the mood to throw down rn so i’ll leave it at that for the time being.

now, i recognize that this kind of thing will not do it for some people. and that’s fine! different types of things are compelling to different types of people. for me, as someone who was quite skeptical of twinning at first (back in 2017-18 when i first encountered kaylor), i’ve become quite taken by it all over the course of the last 4-5 years through the act of keeping tabs on it.

i encourage you or anyone curious but not swayed by twinning to take a look through these posts, and maybe keep it in the back of your mind for the time being. maybe at some point it will click!

My hand in yours, our hearts intwined.” -> This’s the description of the development of their relationship. “There we stood, no frets to be” = They started out as friends and, little by little, they realized that it wasn’t just friendship; “My hand in yours” (for me, the act of ‘holding hands’ is extremely significant. You normally hold the hands of someone close to you… Someone you trust) = They’ve become a couple; “our hearts intwined” = They’re married.

“The sound it came” = ultrasound/baby; “in slow pitched waves” = The decision to raise their family, to have a baby, was something very well planned and probably for years.

“Higher and higher, deep fears it raised” = This is kind of self-explanatory. Imagine the panic it must be, you have to think, every day, until the end of your life, about someone else’s safety. YOUR CHILD!!! (For those here who are parents, congratulations! YOU’RE INCREDIBLY BOLD!)

“Reaching an amplitude” = for most people, this is the greatest achievement of your life… you’ve the love between you and your partner, personified in a little person; “a crack it made” = as many have said here, this baby is the one who will make them reveal their relationship to the world.

“Hold me close, hold me tight” = sums up their feeling/situation, through this long journey they’ve been facing. As difficult and scary as it’s, they continue to keep the other standing. Always together.

“This glass castle will shatter tonight” = When the decision to actually have a child, to raise the Swift-Kloss family, was made(the day of the decision), they finally found the end point for their “glass closet”. That child is what will get them out of the “glass castle” they’ve lived in the past few years.

That’s it!!! I think spades revealed to us that little Swift-Kloss was coming more than a year before we knew that Kar’s pregnant.

p.s .: And I only had this epiphany because I was rereading the ♠’s riddles to answer that anon who was talking about the ellipse in the clue “They are free” (@spade-riddles ). And by the way, here’s my thoughts on that. And now, perhaps, the baby is the “Fervent Revolution”.

For me, the ellipse represents time. I believe that something big will happen in Taylor’s career (Fervent Revolution); then they’ll probably take a break. Taylor will be silent for a few days, waiting for the first furore of the news to calm down (…); and then, finally, Taylor will explain everything that happened/Or Tay will let people find out on their own (Exonerate Everyone).

I believe this riddle was a hint that Taylor’s truest songs about her current situations (relative to the time they were made) will reference blue.

There is very little blue in evermore. I believe the use of gray in Coney Island is tied into the use of gray in evermore and London boy. In the LPSS Taylor describes the love part of hoax as who would you want to stay with gray skies everyday. So if we understand gray skies as storm clouds blocking the blue skies then I’d compare it to a beard maybe blocking the truth. Like a true face hiding behind the beard.
