Rate yourself 1-10 on where you are in each one of these categories and make adjustments accordingly.
-It goes without saying, that food is so important for your daily function. We’ve all heard the saying “You are what you eat” and this is so very true. Be mindful of the foods that you’re consuming and choose foods that protect your brain, and serve as your energy and mental fuel.
-Positive mind, positive life. Take care of your thoughts daily by turning each negative thought you have into a positive affirmation. This will take a little bit of determination and work at the beginning, but it will soon become effortless to kick negative thoughts from your mind and turn them into a positive thought.
-Movement is so important. It is said that 20 minutes of exercise is equivalent to taking one anti-depressant pill. Move every day, even if it’s walking the dog or dancing around the living room. Take good care of your physical being, as it is directly connected to your mental health.
-Take the time to see your doctor and get all of your levels checked. It’s so important to supplement with brain boosting vitamins. Something so small such as being low on Vitamin D can vastly affect your mental state, fatigue and overall health.
-Be mindful of who your choose to surround yourself with. Choose friends who make you feel inspired, encouraged and challenged.
-It’s so important to have a clean environment and surroundings for a healthy mind. A messy home or room often makes you feel fatigued or chaotic, making it hard to stay motivated and productive. Take the time to make your surroundings into a place that you genuinely look forward to coming home to.
Good sleep not only builds your mental muscles and physical muscles but it cleans the plaque and toxins out of your body. Not only that, but good sleep leads to good dreams. Your creativity is more active at night and this is often when your mind will come up with amazing dreams and thoughts. Some of the best ideas in the world were come up with in people’s dreams.
- Protect your brain by limiting what you expose it to, whether it be negative people or thoughts, or social media. In particular limiting the amount of electricity/devices your brain is exposed to, will have a great impact on your overall mood and energy.
-Keep learning and growing every day. Even if it’s just 15 minutes of reading, it’s important to consume new information and skills on a regular basis to keep your mind fresh. Reading or doing crossword puzzles are also proven to reduce the risks of dementia and adds years to your life.
-It’s so important to spend time doing self care and taking care of your stress or anxiety. Going for a leisure walk, taking a bath, playing with a pet, listening to relaxing music, meditation, etc are all so important to your mental health. There is absolutely no shame in turning to medication for larger scale depression, stress or anxiety as long as you are still caring for yourself to accompany it.

The Painted Ladies were so intent upon these flowers that they practically pushed me aside to get to them. Migrating is hungry work.
