sometimes intimacy is a field standing between you and the person you want most.
What the hell even is intimacy anymore? It feels like that word is everywhere. āThe intimacy of this, the intimacy of thatā. Itās a little funny, how I seem to complain of that wording in spite of the opener of this post. But truth be toldā Iām not complaining. Not about the core value and notion of the sentiment. Sure, I think people could be more original with titlesā but thatās just a nitpick. Iām glad people are realising thereās an intimacy in almost everything. An intimacy in lifeās small pleasures, an intimacy in perhaps a breakup or a falling out. Intimacy is a word that triggers the human psycheā brings intrigue and sometimes, I think, for a lot of usā it can bring a sense of anxiety. And with that being saidā if your idea and sense of intimacy is not much beyond something like physical relations, wellā then maybe you wonāt understand the nuance of what I and a lot of other people are saying and coming to realise. Intimacy, in my eyes, goes so much beyond the physical. To be intimateā to look into the eyes of someone, to laugh, to cry, to be perceived. Itās all sickly intimate. Oh, as I type this in my late afternoon, Iām coming to realise how much I am hating that word. Simply because it has bern dulled down to nothing. Nothing everything has to be euphemistic, my possibly close-minded reader. Not everything in life is chalked up to a human hunger, lust.
For me? Thereās nothing more intimate than distance. Between me and this hypothetical person, stands a field. And what is in that field? Well, itās whatever I want it to be. Maybe itās empty and sun bleached, maybe itās lovely and green with a small pond and that long grass that snakes seem to love to hide in. Maybe itās full of flowersā yellow ones. Because I know that theyāre her favourite colour. What stands between this person is something only myself and they know. Itās between usā between two souls whom shall not utter a single word to eachother, for one reason or another. However, actions always weighed more than words. A glance to me may feel more intimate than a kissā a kiss can only portray one or two things. But a glance? A glance is a glance into the soul of the other person. A glance can mean a million things? Is it the look of love? Lust? (Seeing how my generation seems to care about not much else)ā or maybe itās one or anger? Unspoken words that stay unspoken like a sin? Maybe youāll look at me and Iāll have to wonder why it is you looked at me that way. What it is about me that caused the twitch of your left eye. I doubt Iāll ever know. But itās intimate. Iād be exploring and guessing the inner workings of a brain that is not mineā my calloused fingers (probably calloused from doing this a million times over, mind you) shall run their course along the curves and crevices of oneās brain, perhaps oneās soul, should I want to look that deep. Maybe Iāll run my index and middle fingers along the valve of your heart. My curiosities metaphysical body will touch your unknown soulā isnāt that intimacy? For those who chalk intimacy up to physicalities, think of it metaphorically. There is an intimacy in everything. So much so that the word holds so little weight. But because itās so humaneā so every-dayā thatās why itās so important. Thatās why itās important to appreciate it. Breathing air is normal, but losing oxygen will kill you. Appreciate things. Appreciate the intimacy of life.
we absolutely should. it would be very platonically romantic. speaking of which, I'm driving @chaiandpages absolutely insane with the platonic writing I'm doing because I'm a romance writer and now I'm writing a 100 percent platonic relationship but they're pretending they're dating to get this dude to fuck off and its perhaps the best romantic banter I've ever written???? anyway hi
i should be banned from posting after 10pm. bad things happen in the evening when i am given free reign of the tumblr. Doing psychological warfare on my mutuals enjoy the mess that is. Me.
Revising grammar and description in a romantic scene be like:
hey if you're the type of writer that's like me where you tend to write specific scenes first that vaguely weave together into a plot, you might like using obsidian as a writing app.
my frustration with other writing applications is that i will write my scenes out of order and it's hard to move things around and rearrange them on a regular document.
but with obsidian there's this canvas feature where you can just write all your scenes and plot moments on these little cards that you can freely rearrange. you can color code them and connect them too.
here's the canvas i've created for my current multi-chapter fic: (if you zoom in you can see all the text in each card this what it looks like zoomed out)
as you can see, i color code them based off chapters and will group them next to a document card with the working title of the chapter. anything not color-coded are scenes that don't have a proper place quite yet or it's just world building references. this app can also be good for note-taking and collecting research!
best of all, it's FREE!!! the only downside is that if you want your stuff to sync across devices, you do have to pay for that. i constantly hop between my laptop and desktop so i pay for the syncing. but if you write on only one device it's completely free! EDIT: some reblogs have mentioned that you can apparently link your own personal cloud storage (dropbox, gdrive, icloud, etc.) to obsidian for free! that way you can access your obsidian vaults across multiple devices without the extra fee. i don't mind supporting the devs but just something to look into if costs is a concern.
i typically use it for organizing my thoughts for a first draft. once i get all the scenes arranged and mostly written out, i will copy and paste them into ellipsus (also free & highly recommended as a google doc alternative) so that they're all in one document that i can edit.
In my humble opinion
