L. V., I Found This Poem In The Midst Of An Anxiety Attack

My mouth says: wouldn’t it be easier if our hearts were like flowers?

Someone asks patiently: what do you mean?

Wouldn’t it be easier if, on certain days, we could just pluck out our heart

like a flower, plant it temporarily in a pot, so we can get on with our day?

Then once we get home, we can plant it right back in its place.

Because today’s one of those days that doesn’t require a heart.

There was a boy whose name changes every day.
What never changes every day is that he’s always sad.

- "He likes visiting cemeteries.
The prologue is set at a funeral and the following chapters
are about him dealing with loss." -L. V.

I think I wanted him to have a happy ending but I never wrote it.
Maybe I’ll finish his story one day.

If I could, I would compose sonnets for you.

You told me you love poetry, now I’m a poet.
I’ll write you a world of odes and ballads;
I’ll leave a bouquet of haiku on your doorstep.

If I could, I would compose sonnets for you.

Tell me all your fears. I want to know about
everything that’s ever caused you pain. I want
to write them all down on a piece of paper.

Then I’ll fold it once, twice, thrice until it can
no longer be folded. I want to make your fears
small enough that I can hold them in my hand.

I’ll take them far away from you, so that you
won’t ever have to be afraid anymore. I swear
nothing will hurt you again—myself included.
