I have never heard of Norman Rockwell. I don’t understand anything about art. But this picture shook me and caused a storm of emotions. It is called Breaking Home Ties, 1954
The boy is going to a Uni and wearing his best outfit; the Uni sticker is on his luggage, even his tie and his socks are the colours of the sticker. He is excited and impatient. The father - obviously a farmer, is sitting at the worn farm truck with a flag and a storm lamp, because their place is so small the train won’t normally stop there, so the father will need to “catch” the train and signal with the light and the flag for it to stop.
His son will never come back to the farm.
I think I understand why this picture sold at 15,4 million dollars in 2006.
this is from a real diary by a 13-year-old girl in 1870. teenage girls are awesome and they’ve always been that way.
It's basically Les Mis set in His Dark Materials, but the only major thing is the daemons. It's a story shipping Enjolras and Grantaire also. Basically it's "What if they escaped the barricade and also had daemons". If you don't know His Dark Materials, it's okay, because the concept of daemons isn't hard to explain so I can help you out! I need help with les amis and picking daemons for everyone. Please message me if you want to hear about the story/ if you want to help!
A loaf of bread made in the first century AD, which was discovered at Pompeii, preserved for centuries in the volcanic ashes of Mount Vesuvius. The markings visible on the top are made from a Roman bread stamp, which bakeries were required to use in order to mark the source of the loaves, and to prevent fraud. (via Ridiculously Interesting)
I FOUND THE PHOTO OF WHEN THE BURGER KING CLOWN CAUGHT MY HAIR ON FIRE AT MY FOURTH BIRTHDAY, I FINALLY HAVE THE PROOF IT HAPPENED!
SHAKESPEARE
Listen, you all knew I was a major dork already.
These are the posters I made as decorations for the English dept. grad party. As this year marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, we obviously went with a theme. If you are into typography, you can see my freehand attempts at the First Folio typeface. But my pride and joy is the brilliant new party game, Pin the Beard on the Bard.
Yes, the party was grand fun. And no, improvising cardstock beards for my friends to tape to a judgmental drawing of Shakespeare had not been a life goal, but I am proud to have achieved it nonetheless..
These were the doodles I did in college in my history classes.
As in like what was the default thing you would draw on the margins when you were in class and had no creative ideas? Personally I was a wings and eyes kid. Usually wings though.
Please reblog to increase the sample size!
This is the day my friend committed suicide three years ago. We were freshmen back. I had moved to a different state and we hadn’t had contact in months. When I left, he refused to accept that we would never see each other, isn’t that ironic? My friend John Chris. The guy who would stand there talking to me for ten minutes about his turtles, about his job at the pond in town. The guy I tried stop people from bullying. He committed suicide December 16th because he was being bullied. Don’t stand to the side, guys. If you’re being bullied, get help. If you see it, get help. Don’t let more innocents like John Chris feel like their only choice is for release is suicide. Please.
I cosplayed as Yurio from Yuri on Ice tonight!
