It’s a good time to bring this back
Is it all right to hit a Nazi unprovoked?
One day you'll wake up to the smell of something baking in the oven and the warm summer breeze wafting through your window and hitting you in the face and you go downstairs to a tiny kitchen and your wife is making breakfast and kisses your little nose and you go outside to have a picnic until it starts to rain and you run inside and sit by the fire to get warm until bed time and everything will be ok but you just gotta wait I promise you your time will come ok

Look, it kills me, it absolutely slays me, that The Lord of the Rings isn’t a chosen one story when it comes to the One Ring. Yes, the ring was passed to Frodo, at first by the ring’s own choosing, but then came to him from the choice of hobbits. Bilbo wasn’t supposed to find the ring, wasn’t supposed to take it out of those mountains. And it was as if fate and magic had forgotten about the hobbits and underestimated them. And Frodo, that lad, that beautiful, strong lad takes the ring to Mordor! Not even because he’s a “chosen one” or has to. HE. DECIDES. TO. A tiny hobbit who had never known true adventure fought for the good in his heart. He chose to save Middle Earth. HE. CHOSE. THAT. Frodo’s story is all about choosing to be good, in the small things, the big things. It’s about showing everyone’s importance in this world. It’s about choosing to be better than those who would crush you, to fight against them, to fight for the good in the world. It’s about choosing that.
The wildfires in Greece/Turkey. Flash floods in China and Europe. Asphalt-melting heat domes in Canada. Polar vortexes. This is what 1.1/1.2 degrees of warming looks like. We would need a massive structural change to all major world economies to avoid 1.5 degrees of warming. And if we overshoot that, we risk disintegrating ice sheets, the melting of permafrost (releasing more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere), and the Amazon becoming savannah. Those are the stakes. Every businessperson or politician who says we can wait, who sets 2040 targets, doesn’t get it.
