Celebrations, festivals and food
What are the major festivals? What commonly happens during them? Are they or religious nature or not? Where in the cities/villages are the festivals celebrated? How does the place look like? What are festivals only certain areas or groups celebrate? Are there any special rules during these festivals? Or are some rules thrown out of the window during a certain festival? Is there something ahead of a festival (i.e. fasting, harvest)? What are special celebratory foods? What makes them special? What sort of clothes do people wear on special occasions? What about jewelry, make up and hairdos for special occasions? How does the typical cuisine look like in the area? Is it influenced by religious restrictions? Do people mostly eat meat, fish or vegetables on a daily base? Do people eat plain or heavily flavored food? How much of a sweet tooth are they? What are common foods travelers get excited for in the region? Do people eat together or separately? Do people eat in small or large groups? What do people drink? Is the water generally clean enough to drink? If not, what do they drink? What is the comfort food in the area? How does travel food look like? What kind of food/meal to children usually love? What are luxury foods(i.e. alcohol, chocolate)? What is food that is prohibited by law? Why? Are some foods poisonous to certain species? Is there any food only certain species/group are allowed to eat because it would be an affront if others do? Why? What kind of food is reserved for special occasions like weddings, birthdays etc? Who cooks? Are there exceptions? What are the tables like? Shape? High or low? Do people sit in chairs or cushions? What is eating etiquette like? How many times a day do people eat? Which is the biggest meal of the day? What utensils do people use to eat? Are there smaller versions for children? Are there restaurants? Who goes to them? Are there street food sellers? What is a common staple? Are there differences from city to city? What does a feast look like? At what point is a meal a feast? How common is it to invite friends over for a meal? Do private dinner parties exist? I used this worldbuilding questionnaire as a base ,sorted it into the weekly themes, and added questions where some sprung to my mind. These questions are only a little help to get you started. You can build and post about anything that has to do with this week’s topics.
