“Depends.” Oliver gave Leo a look. Weren’t he and his wife loaded? “I’ve seen people charge that for a hand job.” He smiled as a woman turned around to play the part of the offended dame . “I know ma'am. In this economy?” His eyes grew larger then, before he shook his head in dismissal. She could take her outrage else where.

“Anyway, you do whatever you want with this information,” sticking his hands in his pockets, he had a look over at the list for largest donors, expecting to find The Brown foundation somewhere in the top 5, and not exactly surprised to see they were in the top 3.

-

Leo’s brows behind the leather mask shot straight up at Oliver’s remark. Laughter from his belly left his lips which doubled when Oliver told off their eavesdropper. Leo’s laughter making the speed of her exit all the more hastily. “I don’t think I’ll ever stoop so low. But if I get there, you’ll know.”  He sniffed, shaking his head, before focusing back on the donation slip. “And I’m of course--kidding about a five dollar donation.” He said, writing down four digits. This amount was safe for him and his wife’s combined income, but all he could see were the amount of drinks that could be had at the dive bar on the ninth. So. Many. Drinks. “On the safe side, I better ask Alaska.” He said, folding up the slip, and placing it in his coat’s inner pocket. He was buying time with the money, and mourning the potential loss of an excessive amount of his vice.

He made way to see what had Oliver’s attention now. Leo clearly saw his friend’s last name, and he nearly snorted. “Besides, why do they need my money when they got yours, you ol’ fox?” Leo quipped with tilting his head to the side, his lion mask surely adding the playful taunting that Leo was delivering.

“You’re a fucking disaster.” As much as he loved his friend, and he truly did, he didn’t think he was wrong either. He’d stand by Leo even when he was wrong, which he probably often was. “You underestimate my ability to press charges,” he walked away to get him water before returning, ruffling his hair. Chaotic energy just happened to find Katz, as if he didn’t attract it himself.

image

-

Leo rolled his eyes as Katz’ badmouthed him, he didn’t take it seriously at all, and knew his friend didn’t mean it maliciously. he loved the chaotic vibe they created as it was brought his drunk ass to Katz’ home. Though there was an absence of his other friend which happened to be Katz’ ex. Leo laughed at Katz response to his empty threat. “You know that’s something Oli would totally say.” Leo said, forgetting that talking about ex-husbands were off limits in polite, civil conversations.

Oh, this was dangerous. He shouldn’t be looking at her like this. And she shouldn’t be looking at him like this. They were grown ass adults now, and they should know better, and they had responsibilities, and they’d broken up for a reason, because she’d done something horrible, and then he’d said some horrible things, and enough time had passed now that there shouldn’t be any feelings left of any kind, but… there were. She could tell from his eyes that there were. And anyway, Ren had always rather liked danger.

He smiled at the mention of her mother, and he joked about her ridiculous old friends, and she laughed at his dumb jokes and his smug smile and his popcorn-throwing, and what had felt dangerous a moment ago, now felt familiar and safe. Safe enough that she felt comfortable reaching up to fix some stray curls that had fallen over Leo’s eyes.

“Do you remember the night we met?” she smirked. She wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t, honestly. They were at work, and it was a particularly slow night, and nothing of interest really happened except for Ren meeting the only man she’d ever fall in love with. They’d spent the whole shift talking and laughing (and getting yelled at for talking and laughing), and sneaking booze from behind the bar. “I told you I felt like I’d known you in another life. And that nothing you could say would ever surprise me because of it. …I was a fucking weirdo back then,” she laughed, “but I still kind of believe that.”

image

-

The way she looked at him was almost becoming unbearable. Did she realize that she was looking at him the way she use to? Was he giving her the same adoring look that he had reserved for her all those years ago? Would the desire to stop wanting to reach towards her subside? How could he even approach her in such a way when she knew she was married and very clearly had honored that sanction far more than he did? No matter the answers, he had to behave, he had to.

Leo didn’t flinch or back away when Ren’s hand came to his obstructed view. He actually kind of welcomed not seeing her so clearly. It offered a bit of a shield, but she had brushed his shaggy curls away, giving him a sharp view of her stunning features once again. He’d never get over just how ethereal she appeared. And just like that, the urge to just move closer, grab her face and just kiss her took hold of him again. But thankfully she had given him another distraction.

He looked at the cute smirk upon her face as he took her question. The night they met. Arguably one of the best nights of his twenties. He would never tell her, but he even knew what phase the moon was in the sky that night; a crescent moon. He also regrettably even knew what the special was that night; a honey roasted duck. Which now he realized was probably the reason for the slow night. He kept his gaze on her as he recalled the rest of the details, the more important ones. Like how when their eyes first met, he became a stoic fool, melting into a stranger’s eyes. But then how quickly he had warmed up to her because of her charming demeanor, one that he matched up with his own. He definitely chose humour to captivate her, and he was smitten with her honesty no matter how eccentric it was. As he listened to her recalling their conversation about other lifetimes, his face had softened and there was smile shining from his eyes as well as his lips. “I think I remember it a lot better.” He gloated, of course, needing a spotlight on him being right once again. He leaned in closely, his elbow completely taking her arm rest as he did so. “Because you said, you felt like you’ve known me in a thousand other lifetimes.” The glint in his eyes still shown as he reminded her of that detail, the lighting of the movie’s glow helped ignite it brighter. “I asked if I were rich and successful in any of them and you said yes. And then like a lameass trying to shoot my shot, I asked if I got to see you naked in any of them.” His voice lowered an octave as if to keep that part intimately between them than it already was. Leo’s gaze, however, dropped down to the exposed skin at her collarbone before he forced it back up. His clutch on the popcorn bucket was unfortunately becoming obvious with the crinkling of the cardboard.

closed starter: @giselesilvas location: dreaming of charity event, one of the restrooms

Leo watched a woman leave the women’s restroom as he stood at a corner adjacent to it. He waited a beat, holding a near empty glass as if he was just some patient partner. It had been a few minutes since anyone had come or gone, so he took the opportunity. He waltz into the restroom, and it was quite notably the cleanest one he had ever been in. He looked around, admiring the fact that it even have a lounge area before the actual restroom part. He was happy with his choice to take over such a place to do his bidding. The men’s room wouldn’t have been as pristine in his opinion. Before he took another step, he locked the restroom from the inside, then placed his glass down on the table dressed in a bouquet of flowers.

He sat one of the fancy bathroom couches, testing out the cushion to get much more comfortable. He loosened the ribbon that was nestled in his dark curls at the back of his head. He let out a sigh as his face was finally revealed to the cool air. He looked at the black and gold leather lion mask in his hand. Embarrassingly, there was already a bit of sweat on his forehead, his body undeniably hot to burn off the amount of alcohol he had already consumed. It wasn’t his fault though. What was he suppose to do when someone kept on walking by with glasses filled with champagne? His last glass would be his last for the moment being, but that’s only because his mouth would be preoccupied with something else.

From the inner pocket of his coat, Leo had pulled out a slim metal cigarette box and a lighter. He opened it and instantly the potent smell of the box’s contents hit his face. Skunky and earthy more than anything. Two rolled up joints for him which should be more than enough. Why was he about to get high at a charity ball that meant to help the children from becoming like him? One, he was practically dragged here. Two, he had to do something for him to enjoy himself. Three, why the fuck not? He grabbed a joint and lit it at his lips. He sucked and inhaled a nice even hit before exhaling with a chuckle.

Annie knew she could be a lot. that was just…who she was. She liked to speak to people and just mingle with society. It was fun. Plus, you never knew when you would make a great new friend just by meeting someone randomly in a bar. Sure, this in front of her seemed a little put off by the sudden appearance of her (which she understood), but she was going to try her best to make a friend tonight.

She smiled softly as the other spoke, nodding her head, “Most bar food is pretty subpar, you know? But there’s just something about this place. I don’t know what it is.” She giggled and shrugged, “Would you want some of the wings?” She asked, her eyes lighting up a bit, “I could never eat a full batch by myself.” She paused and waved her hand, “They’re on me, I promise. I don’t want a penny.”

Leaning over the bar, Annalise tapped the top a few times and soon enough, the bartender was wandering over and he was ordering an order of mild wings and a beer for the gentleman as well. Holding her drink tightly, she turned back towards him with a smile, “I’m Annalise, by the way. But you can call me Annie if you like. It’s a bit quicker.” She giggled, “I hope I’m not…interrupting you or anything. Or if you were waiting for a friend or something. Oh, I’m sorry I am!”

The dive bar on the ninth was arguably Leo’s current favorite place in the city. So she wasn’t wrong about there being an essence to it. But he kept see-sawing in his mind if wanted to keep up with this conversation. It wasn’t her at all. Her sunny disposition and energy is what he should be striving towards. He was just far too stubborn to. He’d put a damper to her night, if this interaction continued. He didn’t deem himself as a particularly nice person unless it was useful to him. Add alcohol to that equation, and you got a more than chaotic Leo. But the light in her eyes, and her continuous graciousness kept him responding. “I could have some wings.” He said, accepting the free food. He might as well eat something so he could drink even more without getting sick. Good plan.

He stayed quiet as he watched her place in her order. When she ordered a beer, specifically for him, he couldn’t help but cringe. Even though it was a completely nice gesture. Leo detested beer like it’s whole existence offended him. Carbonated, fermented hops and yeast juice? That beer? Fuck, no. He wasn’t planning on pretending he was a fan of it either. “I’m Leo, and no, I’m alone.” He informed her and then he tilted his head at her. “Annie, did you know you’re so overtly happy?” He questioned with a lifted brow.

The sound of a glass mug being placed in front of him, took his attention. It was the beer, ice cold, with fragrant foam head. He swallowed and pushed it towards her space on the bar top as he held his breath. “I can’t drink that. It’s gonna taste like beer and I hate that.” He said, not hiding his dismay one bit.

who: @le0davis where: some half-abandoned theatre in lower manhattan what: in which leo and ren get slapped in the face with nostalgia

This wasn’t Ren’s first time away from Max, but it still felt weird every time she left him with her mom. Being alone felt unnatural now, like she was missing a limb. She’d spent her entire life trying not to get too attached to anyone at all, and now here she was, heart aching for a boy. All that being said, she did find a moment to marinate in the eerie silence of the almost-abandoned cinema. Just as she’d suspected, there was absolutely no one in here, and the ticket seller had looked at her like maybe she was a ghost.

The film was an obscure horror film from the 50s called The Creeping Unknown, and the old floors creaked as she made her way through the empty auditorium to find a seat. It was the perfect atmosphere for some much-needed alone time… but then she saw the mop of curls peeking over a seat in one of the middle rows. Not only had this intruder invaded her quiet night, but they’d also taken the best seat in the place. Despite herself, she was intrigued, and made her way over, just to see what kind of person had the same strange idea of a fun night…

But of course it was him.

“…Leo?” she asked (but who else would it be?).

-

Leo needed a moment to himself that didn’t involve women, work, or alcohol. he needed the silence and care that a theatre could give him. He scored as he sat down on the perfect seat, dead center of the entire theatre. It was completely empty. Just him and the silver screen. It was a haven that he hadn’t had in a long time. And of course, it was an obscure science fiction horror film was a comforting choice for him. He sat comfortably with a small bucket of popcorn in one hand with his soda on the ground in front of the left seat beside him.

He had heard the theatre creak but had thought nothing of it. Until he had heard a voice, he flinched at the sound of his name. Who had found him here in his safe space? He turned his head to see the owner of the voice. He looked at her, stunned, with his hand frozen in his popcorn bucket. “R-ren?” he questioned with narrowed eyes as he looked upon her in the dim lighting. He couldn’t believe it. and then it happened, a brief flash of the first time he saw her to the painful last time he had seen her. it was like his heart in his chest was given a tight squeeze and dragged down to his stomach. “uhh,” he drawled through the pain. it had been ten years but it felt like yesterday, seeing her now. “i’ll leave.” he blurted out, standing up so abruptly, bits of popcorn flung everywhere.
