—Starter for @le0davis Location: Some Fundraising Event for the Arts

Henry had been called into a work emergency at the last minute, which meant that Grace was spending the night solo. She really didn’t want to be here, and fully intended to put in just enough face time that no one could say she didn’t try before returning home to cuddle up with a book and a bottle of wine.

As much as she hated to admit it, Leo Davis was one of the only familiar faces here…

“Of course, an open bar. I should have known you’d be here.”

Leo detested being his wife’s plus one at these work events. Knowing no one and having everyone only come to talk to him about his wife was social hell for a Leo. Besides it’s not like he could afford to be himself around such miserable and snooty people. His wife attention was taken by a group of people, praising her for yet another accomplishment that he couldn’t ever attain.

“Good to see you too, Grace.” Leo quipped back as he turned his head to her voice. His hands were rested on his second whiskey sour of the evening. “Open bar’s the only perk of being a plus one.” He said bringing his glass up, saluting her with it before taking another sip.

Blake thought her shock had been maximised when she’d come face to face with Leo out of nowhere, but it was nothing compared to how she felt when he grabbed her arm roughly. Eyes swivelling down to it she opened her mouth before closing it again, no words escaping. He was hurting her, it was actually fairly scary. “I’m…I’m not playing with you, stop it you’re hurting me.” The girl whimpered softly, her eyes wide. Obviously the man was panicking which objectively was understandable but that didn’t mean she was okay with the way he was going about it, at all. But there was nowhere she could go so in a moment of panic she just shook her head. “No, what? No of course it’s not yours. Why would I have not told you if it was yours.” For exactly this reason actually, but vindication wasn’t really the sensation she was feeling at the top of her list right now, even if she had been vindicated by this whole scenario. “It’s a baby, and it’s not yours so get off me.” She was trying to sound sure of herself, but it wasn’t really going to plan.

Hearing that it wasn’t his just caused another influx of questions to replace the previous ones. If that were true why was she hiding her pregnancy from him? Why not mention it? Why keep something so big in her life a secret? Had she planned to dissolve their relationship completely? these empty questions disappeared as he answer fell upon his ears. he had gotten the answer he wanted. it wasn’t his. and it wasn’t his problem. his secrets were still going to be safe from his wife. he could continue living his precious double life. Still his anger visibly blazed in him. how did he even had room to be jealous? his hand had tightened before it finally loosened. his eyes went down to her bicep and saw how his fingers left a white impression on her reddening skin. he stared unable to accept that he had just done that. he usually harmed inanimate objects, not people, especially not women. his eyes began to mirror her fear and he immediately backed away from her. His lips parted to apologize but couldn’t see that helping in the slightest. he stayed silent and looked away from her like a coward he really was.

where: Vihana & Leo’s apartment, Manhattan. with: Leo Davis ( @le0davis )

She hadn’t meant to be gone so long. It had only meant to be five days, a week at most, but the mess and the chaos of the LA offices had kept her away for three weeks. She didn’t like being away from Leo for that long, not when she’d told him she would’ve been home much sooner. She had some serious making up to do…

She’d come home, unsure of when Leo would be back, and had been quick to work. The place had been left spotless by their cleaner, and decorated with vases of hydrangeas. Hana set to work, lighting candles, turning on and dimming down soft warm lights. She didn’t have the time or skill to cook what she knew Leo would love, so she ordered it in with a private chef - fresh lobster, tenderloin steak (ready to be cooked however preferred), duchess potatoes, an assortment of vegetables. Hana, being a pescatarian, would only be having the lobster.

As her chef preferred their food, Hana went to change quickly and top up her make-up. She stepped into a long white stressed, with a square bust and thin straps. All her jewellery - rings, necklaces, earrings - as always, were gold. Real gold. Combined with river pearls, malachite, moonstones, onyx. She saved her rubies and emeralds for more glamourous occasions. She had a spritz of perfume, scented with jasmine, and put on some music.

A Sunday Kind of Love, by Etta James. Classic, maybe a little cheesy but timelessly lovely.

She heard the door click open as she was setting the table, and felt her heart flutter. She moved to stand facing the door, wanting to see the expression on Leo’s face as he rounded the corner.

“Surprise.” She said simply, flashing him a smile.

Leo sighed, unlocking the door, he immediately expected to be met with utter silence as he had for the past twenty-one days or so. He tossed his keys into the decorate dish for them. But then he heard music which caused him to move further into the house cautiously. What or rather who he saw was not at all what he had expected.

“Vihana,” he breathed out as if he was holding his breath. His eyes immediately lighting up at the sight of her. He only focused on her even through all her handy work. The dim lighting and flowers and the scent in the air didn’t distract him at all from her beauty. Hell, he didn’t even spare a glance at her lovely gestures. Because she looked as she always looked to him, so beautifully unattainable. She was the queen to his lowly peasant. The God to his human. His leather shoulder bag was at his side like it always was when coming home from work. The only thing different about the man’s appearance was that he was cradling a pink box filled with berry cupcakes. That and his curly hair had gotten shaggier.

After the initial shock of seeing his wife, glistening and shining for his attention, he approached her quickly with a spring to his step. “You’re home.” He smiled, and immediately placed the box on the table and stripped himself of his bag, in order to wrap an arm around her waist. “You’re home, you’re home, you’re home.” He repeated, his voice ringing brighter with happiness each time. Leo couldn’t help himself and peppered her cheeks with tender kisses inbetween each phrase. Then finally he stopped to just look at her face. It was like she was gone for months rather than weeks. He gently cupped her face as if he was to kiss her. But words escaped him before he moved towards her. “I missed you.” His heart feeling as if it was soaring. This is what he had missed. This is what he was trying to replicate while she was gone.

Gisele was bad at dates. Not at being at dates, she often excelled at being the part of herself the other person wanted her to be, the perks of being a textbook gemini, but what she was very bad at was sticking with them. She more often than not got bored, and if it wasn’t a dinner and off you go kind of deal, she’d mostly try to find a way to bail. Mattias was a wonderful guy, she’d enjoyed their little flirting moments, the comings and goings in his restaurant, he was really fantastic company to keep. But in a place where he apparently knew everyone and she knew nobody, it felt like walking into a pit of bears with a honey pot. Grabbing a hold of Matti’s bicep, she whispered in his ear “I’ll go walk around, be back in a while”. He graciously smiled back and off she went.

The Brazilian walked around the room, saying hi to a few friends, grabbing one too many glasses of champagne and flirting her way around the room. She was beautiful, and the red dress she was wearing cut her chest open in the most perfect manner, so it was no wonder how she was drawing the eyes of some men and women. After parading herself for a bit, her eyes found her date again. He was still conversing, with a new person now, and Gisele sighed. Fuck that, I’m going to the bathroom, maybe there’s someone there.

The ball room bathroom had the size of most New Yorker’s apartments. She chatted with a few friends, drank the last of her gin tonic and just as her friends were leaving the bathroom, Gi got the need to pee “I’ll meet you outside in a bit” She waved them off as she went into a stall. Sitting down, she heard the bathroom go quiet, and she went into her phone, scrolling aimlessly on Instagram as she peed. All of a sudden, she heard a door lock. Fuck. What the hell? She listened out for the person. They weren’t… Those weren’t heels. Every woman here was wearing heels, nobody would be caught dead with flat shoes in a ball. It had to be a man. And then she heard the lighter, and her smirk pulled up one side of her face, the smoke coming from the stall next to her cementing her suspicions. Getting ready to catch the bastard by surprise, Gisele flushed and once the noise was done, she opened the door and looked around “You know, you really should’ve gone to the stall closer to the extractor fan, you’re gonna smoke to room out, buddy”

image

-

Shit. Shit. Shit! Leo thought when he heard the whirlpool of a flushed toilet. He wasn’t as alone as he wished. He should checked the stalls, but of course was too sure of his instincts.  He had half a mind, already moving too slow from his first couple of hits crossed with the tingly buzz of champagne. He looked at the lit joint wondering if he should ash it and try to play it off. But the resounding clicks of heels were quickly coming his way. He was caught red handed, frozen into a straighten posture as she caught him in feeble attempt to hide the joint that was so obviously throwing wisps of sticky sweet smoke in the air. “I-,” he stuttered in response. He came to realization that he wasn’t being scolded for getting high, but because he wasn’t being smart about. This made him truly take in her appearance. She was dressed in a hotter tone of red than he. Bright and eye catching, especially her chest. His wits suddenly came back to him. “It’s comfortable here.” He started with a complaint. “But since you’re an expert,” Leo said, standing up from the couch, fingers still pinched around the joint. “Where do you want me?” He asked, with the rise of his brows. The double entendre of his words wasn’t lost to him at all. His eye contact on her brown eyes unwavering since the second he met them. “And do you want some?” He offered. Might as well. He couldn’t be the only blamed if they both smelt like it.

norahphobia:

“Good, i’ve been looking for a fight.” Norah quips back quickly, out of breath. She knew that wasn’t quite what he meant, but she didn’t want to dwell on worrying him. Easier to crack a joke in return. She shuffles off her black winter coat, brushing off snow from her clothing. She’d been through hell to get there, and briefly considered moving out of Brooklyn once and for all. She had to cross the bridge almost every day lately. “I tried to take the subway,” she begins, settling down into the booth across from him. “And my connecting train just - didn’t fucking come.” The subway system was notoriously fickle, delays and cancellations were basically guaranteed, especially in this weather. “So I had to get a taxi, and the cabbie couldn’t drive for shit in traffic.”

Pausing to take a sip of water from one of the glasses on the table, she sets it back down with a slow teasing smile. “Or maybe I just thought about standing you up. You may never know.” Truly, she felt bad keeping him waiting. But she wasn’t the type to apologize for worrying someone, it happened so often she hardly registered it anymore. “I love this place.” Norah commented, her voice suddenly softer, amber eyes finally taking a moment to really look at him.

-

Leo’s rigrid posture relaxed instantouesly at her quip. Noted by his crossed arms leaning on the table now. He even laughed. This was something impossible for him not to do around Norah. She intriguied him from the very first moment she opened her mouth. She was one of those people that made him feel cool by proxy. He listened to her tale of traveling between the bouroughs. A classic tale to his native New Yorker ears. And a complete valid reason to be late. It was the teacher in him that deemed punctuality important. But he was happy to see her either way.

“Oh, really?” He responded to her teasing by blinking multiple times to feign a sense of shock. He head dipped back, eyeing the ceiling of the train car when she expressed her admiration for it. “Yeah, same, I use to work in one.” He said, turning his head back to look her again as he spoke. “Not this one though. This one was closed when I was doing that. No, this one, this one’s quite famous.” His arms uncrossed and a hand tapped the table as he spoke, his voice getting quieter as if the details were a secret. “You see, this one was in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.” He nodded, sharing the stupid movie fact as if were impressive. He laughed though knowing the whole thing was ridiculous. And he should probably move on to something more important. “Okay now that I’ve already said one movie fact, how about we look at the menu?”

He was right, of course. She didn’t want to talk about any of this, but she wanted to talk about Leo’s wife like she wanted a hole in her head. She’d only brought the woman up to see what reaction she’d get, and the confused brow and almost callous laugh told her enough. He had no love for the woman whose ring he still wore. Maybe that should have made things better, or easier, but it didn’t.

“Well…” she said, still wanting to put up some kind of guard, to keep some kind of distance, “I would ask how you met Blake, but I heard all about the charming man she made a wedding cake for.” She didn’t know why she sounded so bitter; it wasn’t her he’d cheated on. “And she’s heard all about the man I loved a decade ago. The one with the key to my lock,” she said, gesturing at the padlock tattoo amongst the medley of others on her forearm. “How’d you explain that to your wife? Or have you gotten rid of it by now?”

-

Leo sighed quite audibly when Ren brought up Blake. There it was. One of the many things Leo would have to elaborate on tonight, that’s if she wanted him to. But the way she continued on, had led him to believe that this was some way to bombarde him with all the wrong things he’s done. A great defense, and it was working. No one had genuinely lifted up a mirror to his face, and he did not like it.

Leo abandoned his drink and leaned back in the chair. His dark eyes moved down to his forearms. He didn’t say anything to her, he only began unbuttoning the sleeve to his dress shirt. He pulled the sleeve to show her his tattoo. Or rather what was left of it. Thanks to a stinging, burning laser, it looked as if he had the faintest discoloration along the length of a tattoo. It could have easily been lost in the green tone of his veins and be mistaken for a birthmark. Leo kept his eyes on the clean skin, and spoke with an even tone. “Why would I keep the key to someone who broke my heart?” His voice sharpening against the word, remembering the infliction she caused him. Her brought his eyes back to her face. Pain written all over his face before he straighten his expression again. He began to tug his sleeve back down and spoke. “Now, are we done pointing fingers?”
