Some Things I Want To Say Before Pride Month Starts

Some things I want to say before Pride Month starts

The white stripe in the trans flag represents trans people who aren’t in the binary! This means non-binary, genderfluid, genderqueer, demigirls/boys/ ect.!

Aces and aros belong in LGBTQ+ even if they are cis or het!

If you don’t respect ALL pronouns ALL THE TIME you are an asshole. Pronouns aren’t something you can decide not to use. EVERYONE DESERVES TO HAVE THEIR PRONOUNS RESPECTED!

Give representation to LGBTQ+ people of colour! Respect them!

Give representation to LGBTQ+ people who aren’t skinny! Respect them!

Give representation to neurodivergent and disabled LGBTQ+ people! Respect them!

Being pansexual isn’t biphobic and vice vesa!

If you gripe about not liking individual Pride flags such as Black Pride, Brown Pride, ect. keep your mouth shut and GO AWAY! We don’t care about what you think is pretty or fair or not.

The rainbow flag isn’t just for gay men! It’s an umbrella flag for everyone!

Pedos arent LGBTQ+

Respect ALL identities. Don’t accuse people of “making stuff up”. If you have a problem keep your trap shut.

Don’t be an asshole and respect everybody! Its not hard!

MAPS, terfs, radfems, exclusionists, transphobes, homophobes, assholes DON’T INTERACT. YOU WILL BE PROMPTLY BLOCKED.

There is more after this, but it turned into a full doujinshi plot (things only get worse from here). I’m not sure if I should draw it…

What To Do If A Tumblr User Appears to Be Considering Attempting Or Is Going To Attempt Suicide

The first thing you want to do is report the blog to Tumblr staff.

You can alert the Tumblr staff by sending them a quick email explaining the situation. It is critical that in your email you include a link to the user’s blog, since this way they can easily identify the user in question and contact them. But you shouldn’t solely depend on the Tumblr staff unless you have to, since there is only so much the staff can do.

Check to see if there is any way of contacting someone the user knows in real life.

If there is anyone that this user interacts with in real life (a good friend, a relative they have a positive relationship with, a colleague they have from work, etc.) that knows them and you can get in touch with (whether through Tumblr messages, email, etc, it doesn’t matter) it is essential that you contact them. Tell them that you believe the user in question is likely to attempt or is attempting to commit suicide.

If you aren’t sure how to find someone the user interacts with in real life, see *.

Continue to message the aforementioned person.

Once you’ve managed contact with the person that the user interacts with in real life and warned them that the user in question is likely to attempt or is attempting to commit suicide, stay in contact with them. It is important to tell them that they should call a suicide prevention hotline number if the user is considering suicide (1-800-273-8255 is the national suicide prevention hotline number if they live in the U.S, if they don’t click here for a vital list of all suicide hotlines for different countries (if there is no suicide prevention hotline for the user’s country see **) and tell them instead that they should go straight to calling an emergency number if the user is in immediate danger (911 if they live in the United States, and click here for a list of the emergency numbers for other countries if they live outside the U.S). What a lot of people don’t realize about most suicide prevention hotlines is that it isn’t just for people who are considering suicide, it’s also for people who believe someone they know is considering attempting and/or is going to attempt to commit suicide. Once the person has made contact with the hotline, professionals will handle the situation from that point forward. DON’T CONTINUE TO MESSAGE THE PERSON ONCE THEY’VE MADE IT CLEAR THEY WILL CALL OR ARE CALLING THE NUMBER. Wait for them to get back to you. I understand how worrisome it can be to wait to receive information on whether or not someone you follow and care about is okay, but you have to let the person do what they can to save the suicidal user without interruption.

* How to find people that could help the user.

Make a post on your blog(s) about the user, explaining the situation in the post. It’s important to also explain that you’re looking for people who know this user in real life and you can get in contact with to figure out a way to help prevent them from committing suicide. Also include a link back to this current post you’re reading so that other people can be informed and help you take action. It is vital that you get your post to circulate so that more people will see it. The more people that see the post, the greater the chance there is that you will be able to locate someone who can do something in real life to save the user. You can help the post circulate by tagging popular blogs you know that would be willing to reblog your post and bring attention to their own followers. Eventually, you’ll hopefully find someone who knows the user in real life. If you don’t, double check to make sure that you informed Tumblr staff of the situation and send the user all the love that you can and pray that they turn out okay, they could really use it at the moment.

** What you should do if the only available numbers are for immediate danger, but the user in question is only considering committing suicide.

In this situation it is important that you make sure you don’t lose contact with the person that knows the user. You need to help inform them so that they know how to correctly approach the user about suicide. Send them a link to this site (the site link is http://www.bethe1to.com/bethe1to-steps-evidence/ for a quick copy and paste) should this scenario occur. This site is extremely useful for informing a person on how to approach someone they believe is considering committing suicide. It would be helpful to consider giving the site a visit for yourself, as it could come in handy should you ever have to confront someone you think is suicidal.

______________________

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

In case you aren’t sure what happens when you call a suicide hotline, visit: https://www.healthyplace.com/suicide/suicide-hotline-what-happens-when-you-call. This way you can better understand what happens when the person you’re contacting makes the call for the user, or should you need to make a call yourself.

Furthermore, a question you might ask is “Why do I need to contact someone the user knows in real life instead of confronting them online myself if they’re only suicidal and in no immediate danger”? Well, websites and social media platforms will only ever be text on a screen, at some point you have to realize that. So confronting the user over the internet through said text isn’t going to be nearly as effective or sure of a method as someone they know personally sitting down with them and discussing it with them in real life. It is encouraged to send the user some love and support online if they are suicidal, but it’s more important to make sure someone they know assists them in getting the help they need.

as a long-time figure skating fan, i’ve been really looking forward to yuri on ice, and i wanted to talk a little bit about the skating in episode 1. i worry that maybe people who aren’t as into skating don’t understand how RIDICULOUS that program viktor did was.

this is not in any way a complaint. the program was completely unrealistic, but not because anyone involved with the show neglected to do their research. it was clear they actually put a ton of research & work in, and then intentionally designed something that was the skating equivalent of your power level being over 9000. viktor (and yuri) went out there and threw down the skating version of a level 100 mewtwo. it was DELIGHTFUL.

so first of all:

image

four quads is… not technically IMPOSSIBLE, but right at the very edge of what is currently possible in men’s figure skating. a quad (jump with four revolutions) is REALLY DIFFICULT. as recently as 2010, the olympic champion in men’s skating didn’t even have ONE quad in his program; i remember as recently as five years ago scott hamilton saying TWO quads was “superhuman.” the highest score EVER received in men’s skating was yuzuru hanyu at the grand prix final in 2015, where he performed three quads. the second highest score ever received was javier fernandez at worlds last year, where he also performed three quads. skating fans can correct me if i’m wrong but the only skater i can think of who has EVER performed four quads in one program is boyang jin, who is tiny and has made jump rotation his whole life. to have a seasoned 27-year-old skater performing four quads is completely delightful nonsense.

image

his first jump is a quad lutz. for some context, the rough ranking of skating jumps from easiest to most difficult is something like: toe loop, salchow, loop, flip, lutz, axel. you might notice a lutz is the SECOND MOST DIFFICULT JUMP POSSIBLE, and actually more difficult than the axel for some skaters. accordingly, MOST quads are toe loops or salchows. since a quad axel has literally never been performed, a quad lutz is the SINGLE MOST DIFFICULT jump ever landed in skating competition, EVER. although people have been trying to do quad lutz since the early 2000s, you can probably count the number of skaters who have landed it successfully on one hand. this jump is nearly ALWAYS underrotated or even downgraded to a triple. in my lifetime as a skating fan i can only think of a couple times i’ve seen this jump landed as cleanly as viktor does it here.

if that wasn’t enough, the lutz usually has a very specific set-up where the skater glides backward on one foot for a couple seconds before turning their skate blade onto the outside edge. that’s how the technique for the lutz jump is TAUGHT. it’s extremely impressive for someone to be able to throw a lutz out there without this setup. viktor does it and gets four full rotations.

then he follows it up with:

image
image

the first quad flip IN HISTORY was landed for the first time LAST APRIL. APRIL 2016. i also remember people trying this one back in 2010-2011, but it wasn’t successfully landed until THIS YEAR. and it’s viktor’s SIGNATURE MOVE!!! and he does it immediately after landing the other most difficult jump in skating!!!!!! he just pulled out two jumps most skaters can only dream of ever landing maybe once in their entire careers, BACK TO BACK.

again, the HIGHEST SCORE EVER AWARDED IN MEN’S FIGURE SKATING, EVER, was given to a program with one quad salchow and two quad toe loops. jumps SIGNIFICANTLY easier (but still extremely difficult) than viktor’s two opening jumps. and he’s just fucking getting started.

he does a flawless triple axel and then some footwork and spins. then he throws out something maybe a touch less superhuman:

image

for any real life skater, this would already be one of the greatest performances of their career. but viktor isn’t done yet.

he does a long (gorgeous) footwork sequence, triple lutz, triple flip, and:

image
image

i already mentioned how ridiculous four quads is, but this is even better. skaters will typically put their most difficult jumps near the beginning of the program, because they’re easier to land before your legs get tired. recognizing this, the scoring system gives you an extra 10% bonus on the jump’s value if it’s in the second half of the program. viktor pulls out a quad-triple combo, still one of the most difficult jumps in figure skating, as his LAST JUMP. HIS LAST JUMP. a free skate program lasts four and a half minutes. after four and a half minutes of grueling, exhausting activity, viktor soars into a quad-triple so beautiful it could be used to teach the combination to other skaters.

AND YURI KEEPS UP WITH ALL OF THIS. YURI, WHO CAME IN LAST AT THE GPF. YURI CAN DO THIS TOO. this program is significantly more difficult than anything that has ever been competed irl, and this show has TWO SKATERS DOING IT SIMULTANEOUSLY. WHAT A GREAT SHOW???

for any skating nerds out there, here is my breakdown of the jumps in viktor’s program:

4Lz - 13.60 4F - 12.30 3A - 8.50 4S - 10.50 3A+3Lo+2Lo - 15.40 3Lz x - 6.60 3F x - 5.83 4T+3T x - 16.06

to explain what this means. the world record score in men’s figure skating was given to yuzuru hanyu in 2015. for that program, the base value for the jumps alone (so not even taking execution into consideration, just the sheer value yuzuru got for completing the jumps he did) was 79.87 points.

the total base value of the jumps viktor (and yuri) performed in this program was 88.79.

this program would have handily crushed the world record. and yuri throws it out there in his home rink when he’s out of shape during the off-season.
