In Dewott's human world, it's taboo to express any emotions. People hide their emotions so deep within, that they often forget how to feel.

During the events of Gates to Infinity, only Dewott was able to reach the Bittercold, NOT because he's a human, but because he had no idea what negative emotions felt like.

With the entire world's collective hope for the future, he was able to defeat it. And for the first time, he too felt hope.

When he was forced to go back to his world, he learned despair.
