Call it what you will, hipster, artsy, aesthetic, pretentious, but when a small, independent, flower-themed bookstore pops up hardly a few blocks away from you, you can’t help but feel yourself drawn to the wistful vibe it gives off, something in between lost love and new beginnings. Yes, you’re one of those people, the millennials that avoid chain bookstores because how dare the capitalists take your hard-earned coins to funnel into economy-ruining projects.

It’s a tiny thing, not much larger than one of those made-to-go pizza places furnished with only a grimy steel kitchen and a counter, but the inside makes it seem limitless. Clearly, the owner has poured their heart and soul into this cramped little bookstore, from the garden that paints the walls to the ivy lining the bookshelves. You, quite frankly, wouldn’t be surprised if there was a secret entrance to a forest filled with fairies and nymphs, where hopeful little girls’ dreams magically come to life. It’s like walking into a butterfly garden, the portable ones that come with the annual butterfly show, and if you just so happened to spot a monarch or two, well, that’s to be expected.

It seems like everyone around you is either already in love, or in the process of falling, and while normally you couldn’t give a damn, finding out the co-worker you’ve had a teensy crush on is dating someone else at the office seems to sucker punch you right in the gut. It’s stupid, and you’re irritated at yourself, but you can’t seem to shake out of the funk you’ve fallen face first in.

Feeling lonely and heartsore, and mad for no reason, during drinks with your best friend you spot a man at the bar. Tequila confident, you make your way over to the stranger, and successfully one thing leads to another. The next morning you leave before he’s woken up, feeling satisfied in one way, but still as discontented as ever. Telling yourself it was an inebriated mistake, you quickly try to forget about it.

Only, three weeks later that night comes back to haunt you – in a very unescapable way…
