We're a quarter of the way into the Fall semester and October is just around the corner! 😱 I've been busy, working on a few art projects, but I got in some quick sketches here and there. Hope you enjoy! More artwork to come soon. 😊🍁⠀

It’s been a tumultuous year so far to say the least, and I think we could all use the vibes Jewelia here is emanating right now. If you’ve been following me for a while, you may recognize this art format as my 100 Themes Challenge (See #Crystal_100TC if you’d like to see more related works). This piece took me the longest time to complete so far (at least 7 hours alone on the zentangle-like patterns) though here it is in all it’s glory. Finished my self-portrait! I’ll admit I made a mistake when I colored in the skin tones on the original, so I edited it in Photoshop. (2nd pic is original drawing) I need better skin tone colored markers… But that aside, I’m pretty proud of it. This was also my first attempt at coloring hair in a different style than I usually do, and I’m liking it a lot better. Again, this is part of a bigger piece that I wanted to do; I’m making a Meet The Artist page and drawing myself in my style is a big part of it. (*cough* spoilers. I finished Theme #3 Color! I'm kinda cheating actually... This one was already done, and I didn't want to redo it for the project because I already spent sooo much time on it.⠀ 🔹⠀ First, a little excerpt about this piece. It features my OC named Acid, who is part chameleon and part "giant" Komodo dragon. His name is a direct reference to psychedelia and LSD (aka acid). He changes colors! Here we see he's made friends with an average chameleon, and he's copying the chameleon's color.⠀ 🔹⠀ (3rd image) A year ago, the original drawing from 2015 was my inspiration for this digital painting. (2nd image) After one semester, I spent several hours and got pretty far, but my prof and I both knew I could do better. (1st image) A second semester later, in the same class, I worked several more hours on this painting.⠀ 🔹⠀ I know I could keep working on this, but I'm calling it finished for now and moving on. Internet users won’t be fooled by fake net neutrality legislation pushed by telecom shills in Congress

Politicians who backed Ajit Pai’s repeal have introduced deceptive bills intended to confuse the public and derail real open Internet legislation

Today the House Energy and Commerce Committee held its first hearing of the year on the subject of net neutrality. As was rumored, some lawmakers on the committee who backed Ajit Pai’s repeal––and who have received enormous campaign contributions from big telecom––are pushing for deceptive legislation that fails to restore strong open Internet protections needed to prevent abuse by companies like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T.

These lawmakers think they are very clever, by modeling the bills they are pushing after legislation that has previously been supported by Democrats, or after state level bills, which are not applicable to the Federal level. But net neutrality is not a partisan issue, and tech policy experts see right through the smoke and mirrors here.

Fight for the Future, a leading digital rights group with more than 2 million supporters, issued the following statement, which can be attributed to Deputy Director Evan Greer (pronouns she/her):

“This is just more of the same BS from Big Cable funded politicians. They’re intentionally trying to confuse the public and derail real efforts to restore net neutrality by pushing weaksauce legislation that would undermine the open Internet while claiming to save it. All three of the lawmakers behind these bills essentially rubber stamped Ajit Pai’s repeal of net neutrality; that should tell you everything you need to know about their true intentions.

Unfortunately for them, Internet users aren’t as easily fooled as they think. We’ve been tracking these bad faith efforts to push legislation backed by telecom lobbyists for years, and there’s no way people are going to fall for it. We need strong legislation that reinstates the FCC rules that never should have been repealed, and doesn’t leave loopholes for Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T to scam us and control what we see online.”
