Alya's anger was valid, but i think it's CRAZY for her to yell at Mari, "I don't like lying!" Like, you think your BESTIE does?!š you should know by now that it eats at her, too. Then just basically tells her bestie she doesn't want to help carry her burden (thanks, Pookie)
But still, very valid anger; Alya wasn't there in the action. Mari was and is a child, and there was no time to think of the "right-er" option
We, as the audience, get that privilege.
A 14 year-old child that just witnessed her boyfriend's assistant be the villian's side-kick and die, his mother in a see-through coffin, and his father be THE villian and achieve his wish to reunite with his deceased wife by killing himself instead of listening to the child plead with him to live the rest of his time caring for his child. All in the span of maybe half-an-hour to a couple hours (really not a lot of time). She did not get that same privilege. Only thoughts in her head are probably,
"What the fu-"
before the next and next event.
If she told him, he'd probably let it slip and then everyone would know and everyone would be outside his only "home" with torches and pitchforks. He didn't slip? He continues pretending with the people mourning his father, the villian, to his face. Yadda yadda, the other options, blah blah
This scene was intense between Alya/Rena Rouge and Mari/Ladybug, Alya was mad at Mari for Flying to her about Gabriel was Monarch. And you can hear Mari's voice in the end it was like she wanted to cry šš
Too many voices; I can't even claim my own spaceš
"it's all in your head" correct! unfortunately I am also in there
marinette and adrien being in a relationship is so funny because both of them will want to help anyone in distress and neither will back down so theyāll both hold some random struggling personās hand and run away?? but then marinette will be like OH FUCK. right im the guy who fixes the distress!! guess i gotta make a shitty excuse and fuck off!! and then adrien is like oh now that my beautiful girlfriend has left my field of vision im remembering IM A SUPERHERO AND NEED TO FIX THIS LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION!! i sure hope my girlfriend doesnāt get attacked while sheās purchasing 16 apples from the fishmonger and retrieving 27 balls of yarn sheās suddenly misplaced. meanwhile the person they were previously consoling is like what the fuck they both just ditched me after insisting they wanted to make me feel better what is their damn problem
From day one, there have been multiple theories and interpretations about what Adrienās future career path and passions would be as we all wanted to see this boy be able to choose and discover something for himself rather than the dozens of activities his father was making him do. I believe the most popular theories in the fandom were Adrien becoming a baker or a stay-at-home dad. I think the popularity of these theories arose due to Adrien being good with kids and showing a fondness towards Marinetteās family and their bakery in early seasons. Furthermore, as Miraculous is built on subverting gender roles, and Adrienās characterisation is more traditionally feminine with the narrative I guess we were building on that (and men taking on more domestic roles seems to be loved in fandom spaces in general).
However, I hadnāt quite seen running as a potential career choice for Adrien and most of us wouldnāt expect it either.
I, for one, didnāt expect it but I am not disappointed and I think it makes a great lot of sense for his character for three reasons.
Reason #1
As much as I love baker and stay-at-home dad Adrien aus, Iām glad that canon chose not to take that route in this episode. I think that choice would be more detrimental to his character rather than beneficial in our canon narrative.
As Thomas commented, so much of his character already revolves around Marinette considering that heās pretty much all he has left and feels the most comfortable around her right now. (Even before his fatherās death, his sense of identity seemed to revolve around her a lot as we saw him expressing that his love for her was the only thing he was sure of in S5. I think itās because heās been deprived of autonomy so much that he seems to be used to basing his desires around other peopleās).
Thatās why I believe him going into baking or being a stay-at-home dad at the future would not really help him grow as a character as both those choices still keep him under Marinetteās wing.
As this episode established, Adrien needs to figure and explore his passions for himself. Whilst Marinette will always be there for him, he needs to understand what he wants by his own volition.
(Having him make a breakthrough in discovering his interest for running without Marinette at the end of this episode was a great start!) Reason #2
I thought it was interesting how they started this sequence with Adrien looking up sadly at his big and lonely house before running away from it.
It takes me to what Sublime asks him later on.
This is what Adrien has wanted from Season 1: to run away and escape the four corners of his house to explore the outside world. It feels like a callback to Origins where I think of Adrien running away from house to start school. Thereās also several times in the show where he runs away to escape the cold and lonely atmosphere his house brings.
The bars on the gate of the house in this scene also makes it look so much like a prison.
Of course, we now have Adrien standing on the outside of it rather than inside considering that the person who was keeping him in the house in the first place is dead.
It still doesnāt mean that Adrien thinks of the house as less of a prison. An association like that is hard to forget especially now that the house is where both his parents died.
But now, without Gabriel, we know heās free to run from it for as long as he wants.
I also want to add that in Hinduism, running is considered as a physical response to escape distress.
Reason #3
Should someoneās passion really be built on running away from something else? Well no. But I donāt think weāre meant to see it that way. Adrien running at the end of this episode away from his house is meant to symbolise him finally breaking free from the Gabrielās controlling influence. Him running away is mainly a step towards his growth.
Besides, running isnāt only seen as means to escape problems but it also signifies pursuit of a goal and taking on a spiritual journey for self-growth. (Dream analysis tends to associate both escapism and pursuit to running in dreams depending on the context and circumstance). This also fits Adrienās character quite well. Not only is he escaping past trauma, but heās taking on a new journey to explore what he wants in life.
So yeah, let the boy run!
Iām super excited to see where they take his characterisation with this one. The symbolism behind his potential passion/career choice is just gorgeous.
Edit: Iād just like to make it clear that I donāt see this scene as Adrien finding his passion for life. I more or less see it as Adrien taking a step forward to discover something he potentially is passionate about by himself without input from any of the people in his life (he also makes a new friend on his own and that makes me happy). Running is indeed a potential career choice for Adrien, and it could possibly be something he can see himself doing in the future, and we will definitely get more buildup to this passion of his in future episodes too! Itās not a definite career choice for Adrien though, because as Marinette said, heās young and he has plenty of time to explore what heās passionate about. This scene isnāt really about making a definite choice, but rather Adrien being allowed to explore something he feels is right by his own choice.
It's so baffling to me that people will blame marinette for literally anything. At the beginning of the episode we see her talking about Sabrina and how happy she is that she's changed and is now helping people. And then she shifts her focus to her planned date with Adrien for most of the episode.
But GOD FORBID, she asks ONE QUESTION, in a not sweet saccharine princess tone, because she is CONFUSED, and lacking CRITICAL INFORMATION, which is what the ENTIRE EPISODE BUILD TOWARDS, and she's suddenly "mean" and "a bully" and "ruined this season".
Like. Some people make it so blatantly obvious that they just look for reasons to shit on a fictional 14 year old girl due to her simply existing. C'mon.
I've read lots of opinions about who's right when it came to Marinette's secret about Gabriel being Monarch. There are people who defend Alya and there are people who defend Marinette. When it comes to me. I honestly can't blame neither of them. I can't blame Marinette for keeping this secret. I can't blame Alya for getting mad at her. But you know who I can blame? GABRIEL FUCKING AGRESTE. He was a fucking dick to his very end. I don't even know if the show truly wanted him to be a sympathetic villain or not, because most of the time he wasn't even nice to his own son and he had like... one... two, sympathetic moments? While 95% of the time he was busy terrorising Paris, innocent people and traumatizing literal children. HIS SON INCLUDED. What he asked Marinette, before taking that wish, was literally so cruel and selfish. He asked her to lie. He MANIPULATED her into lying. Lying that he, a TERRORIST, was a damn HERO. She's a kid for god's sake. And he was a grown ass man-
Someone get Thomas and Jeremy on the phone
i think we should have an ep where Adrien loses the rings and is like "its ok, because the love I have for my parents will always be in my heart :) " - meanwhile Marinette is having 5 consecutive heart attacks and speed dialing Felix to see if he can make a trip from London and help find the rings
That is all i wanted too LOL
So Climatiqueen just premiered and I have to say...
Aurore's character is the perfect example of how a returning antagonist should be handled, don't recycle them for the sake of recycling them, continue to build on what we know of THEM, because that's what makes them unique, if you don't do so, then there's no reason as to why any other character wasn't in their place.
For example, in this episode the writers used the established foundation Stormy Weather gave them about Aurore's interests to fit the theme of discovering your passion (and to possibly lay the groundwork of foreshadowing Ladybug's reputation downfall, as It's honestly very suspicious the social media theme was the focus of two episodes in such a short amount of time). Thanks to that, we now know that Aurore wanted to win the role as climate presentator in 'Stormy Weather' because meteorology was her passion, and not solely because of popularity as we previously thought (though that did play a role as well, as this episode proves), adding layers to her character in a way that feels justified as they are relevant to the story we're being told (unlike other instances where they can feel like an unnecessary info dump because of bad timing, like Gabriel's backstory, or so I've been told, I haven't followed Miraculous since early S3 lol).
I'm a sucker for little continuity details like that because it helps cement the idea that the world is alive, and it makes me appreciate the analytical labor writers go through in order to do help this illusion remain believable.
I hope there's a moment we get a deep dive into her thoughts and it's like that Spongebob scene
and her fighting it because Marinette shouldn't know what's going on
I think people forget Marinette is like 14.
(Disclaimer; I only roughly know what going on in season 6 so, correct me if Iām wrong. )
Marinette was given the truly impossible decision of either A), telling her recently orphaned boyfriend, that his father, who just JUST DIED, was the super villain whose been terrorizing him and everyone he loves, for a year now. To make matters worse, he and his father had a very broken relationship, that heāll never have the chance to fix, because heās dead. Or B), Telling her orphan boyfriend, that his dead father, at least died a hero, but forever living with the burden of knowing thatās a lie.
To make matters infinitely worse, she has like an hour to decide. Plus, whichever she chooses sheāll have to tell both Adrien and the rest of the country HERSELF. So, of course Marinette, whoās used to lying to āprotectā others, picks option B. Was it the right decision? Absolutely not. But she shouldnāt even have to make that decision, SHES A CHILD.
The two adults who knew the situation she was in, Tikki and Natalie, donāt even try to convince her to tell the truth. And her best friend, the only person she mightāve ever told she did this, Is (rightfully) PISSED with her, even though she also chose not to deal with the burden of knowing that when given the opportunity. Getting mad at your best friend for not saying and then also choosing not to say anything is wild (again correct me if im wrong about the situation, I havenāt seen the episode yet)
The fact Marinette hasnāt had an actual mental breakdown over this is insane. HER VILLAIN ARC WILL BE LEGENDARY.
