This though. Last year for a project at school in which I learned about tourism in Hawaii and how the islands have become dependent on it even though they don't need to be! Literally selling their culture! Obviously I don't have an real experiance with this because I'm white, but it's still so stupid how we (we being Americans, unless this is something in other places too) are being raised into thinking that all these places are essentially their products. That's fucked up.
self proclaimed leftists with entire graduate degrees on twitter not understanding that tourism in places like latin america and the caribbean is a form of neocolonialism even in places where the national economy is dependent on it. just because the government is making money off of ur lil excursions and hotel stays doesn’t mean regular citizens are, especially in your fave ‘tropical getaway spots’. the fact that sandals wanted to build an entire resort in tobago where my family lives might sound great for the economy or whatever until you realize that they would’ve closed off several acres of land and made it inaccessible to non-tourists which is fucking insane thing to even propose on such a small island. like i’m sorry but do you really think my family is grateful when you crackers come to visit during the winter?? do you really think your presence adds value to their lives?? when the govt invests money in ports but not paving the fucking roads anywhere that’s not downtown/vacation home territory?? you white losers need to put down ur marx for like half a sec and pick up a small place by jamaica kincaid. like lol if you wanna be a tourist be a tourist but don’t fucking act like anyone who refers to it as a contemporary form of colonialism is doing too much. ESPECIALLY when this sentiment is legit coming directly from the people living in the getaways you love to visit. i genuinely don’t understand how y’all can grasp the “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” shit but can’t understand this.

“Dream” Hob hums, airy and soft.
The way he says it is so full of wonder and marvel. It’s hard to ignore, it’s hard to not pay attention. Even if he really shouldn’t.
“What is it?” Morpheus asks back, aiming for stern but ending up with something all too soft.
“Nothing really” Hob grins, eyes glinting in that special way of his, full of life and joy. “Can’t a man enjoy using the name of his dear friend?”
There’s an air about him, like he’s teasing, but not quite. “Now that he knows it, that is” he adds coyly, smiling into his beer mug as he drinks.
To this, Morpheus finds he has no good answer, at least not one that wouldn’t sound rude where he doesn’t want it to be.
So he relents, looking down at Hob’s hands, then up through his eyelashes, right at him.
“Of course. You may use my name at any time you’d like, Hob Gadling.” he says, lips curling and eyes narrowing, feeling more than a little pleased when Hob’s Adam’s apple jumps as he swallows too fast, coughing lightly.
“Huh.” Hob puts the mug down, absentmindedly touching his ear, looking at Morpheus with eyes that look thoughtful “Of course, Dream.” he lowers his tone at the name, looking at him with easy confidence.
The husky undertones set a shiver down Morpheus’ spine.
He really shouldn’t. However…
Morpheus’ gaze flicks to Hob’s lips before returning to his eyes, judging by the gleam in them, Hob had definitely noticed.
Well then. Morpheus thinks, tilting his head as he observes his friend.
They both are smiling at each other, as they often do.
