Only Neil Gaiman would make a character who is a gay cat god who wants to fuck a repressed Edwardian boy
I’m never gonna get over Loki, the literal god of mischief, fixing his jacket and smoothing out his hair only to stumble over his words like an idiot when he needs to talk to a middle aged single dad who sells jet skis for a living
I find it interesting that—aside from the Din Djarin fans—not many people seem to really see or want Din as the future Mand’alor.
I often see posts on various Star Wars accounts that will say things like “Who do you want to rule Mandalore?” and the comments always propose Mandalorians like “Bo-Katan!” or “Sabine Wren!” which, I agree, would be incredible. But I rarely ever see people suggest Mando/Din, even though—at this time in canon—he is the rightful heir to the throne of Mandalore.
I wonder why people don’t often see him as a leader. I agree that his character will need some more growth to reach his full potential as a leader, but as we’ve seen especially in season two, Din doesn’t have trouble being a leader in many situations. Think about the way he stepped up amongst other people in Chapters 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, even part of 11, 12, and 15. He took more of a backseat in Chapter 16, but most likely because he was so focused on saving his child that he didn’t have much room to think about leading everyone else.
We’ve seen Din act as a leader time and time again—and a good one at that. He’s not afraid to self-sacrifice when necessary (Chapter 8 with the warrior’s death sequence, 9 with the krayt dragon, 11 with the heavy-repeating blasters). He can make effective plans quickly and change them when needed (Chapter 4 with the raiders, 5 with capturing Fennec, 9 with the krayt dragon, and more). He can make amends with people he doesn’t necessarily agree with in order to benefit a greater good (Chapter 6 to earn credits to support Grogu, 7 to free Grogu from Imperial interest, 9 to help Mos Pelgo and the Tuskens, 10 to keep Frog Lady and her eggs safe).
The reality is, at the present moment, Din Djarin will be the Mand’alor, according to Mandalorian customs. Could those change? Perhaps. We’ve seen how Ursa Wren broke the dueling custom to save her daughter’s life and we watched as Sabine passed the Darksaber to Bo-Katan. Would Din prefer to retire and take care of his son upon their reuniting? Maybe. But in my opinion, I think Din Djarin’s character development could truly be leading towards him become the effective Mand’alor that the planet really needs—and I think that’s the future for Mandalore we should continue thinking about.
