I’m Scared...but I’m Ready For It To Happen.

I’m scared...but I’m ready for it to happen.

So they killed the Night King off in one episode with minimal deaths. That’s not what ANYONE expected.

Now we’re gearing up towards the “final battle” against Cersei. But Cersei isn’t nearly as scary as the Night King. And we have three episodes left. It’s improbable that Cersei fucking Lannister is worth more battle time than the Night King.

I just had the worst thought. Cersei isn’t going to get three episodes. She’s not the final battle.

The final battle is going to be Jon vs. Dany. The North is too loyal to Jon to kneel to Dany, and the Dothraki and Unsullied would never serve anyone other than their queen.

The final battle is going to be Jon Snow vs. Daenerys Targaryen and it’s going to have the biggest death toll we’ve ever seen.

Got controversial opinion (i guess?!)

This is insane!? I cant believe how many people are going up in arms about the portrayl of some of these charecters in the latest episode. This was outstanding and a great culmination and rep of a lot of these charecters story lines. Danerys has been slowly slipping into the deep end for a long while and the unsullied are trained to follow their specified leader (which is stregnthend by the fact they chose her). Tyrion (while clever and smart) is a man who is heavily influenced by his moral compass and emotions, as well as his own sense of honor. Of course hes going to try to save everyone he can in a way that dosent involve him betraying danerys, thats what hes been doing for the longest time. Johns not a man whos being represented as a hero right now, hes a man who fucked up BIG TIME and is only now seeing past the tosy eyes lenses of love. Im truly sorry to all the people who feel as if they have been wronged by writers. Its hard seeing a charecter(s) who you have loved for years, identified with, and gave you hope die or turn against the very ideals and characteristics that made you love them, but please dont blame these feelings on the writers and start shouting blasphemy. This was the natural culmination and it was great. Have a nice day, and i wish you luck for next sunday.

This!

feeling bonkers about measure for measure again. obsessed with the way angelo and isabella are such blatant foils of each other. angelo's introduced instigating the crackdown on vienna's sexual immorality while isabella's someone who's just become a nun and wants /more/ restrictions on her activities. (if you want a similar literary character from a different century, think dorothea from middlemarch.) devotion weaponized into self-restriction. they're both dangerously devout in their own way, though tellingly angelo's the only one who tries to push his beliefs onto other people and thus the one revealed to be a hypocrite in the end.

by contrast, the duke's a figure of total amorality. he spends most of the play in a friar's robes without performing the rites or following the strictures dictated by said robes. the duke has no faith the way angelo and isabella do. he's vaguely worried about ~corruption~ but why take a stand when he can get his overzealous second-in-command to do it and take the fall for him? dude could have revealed himself so much earlier but. he doesn't. the duke pretends to be in a comedy, but he's just a psychopathic puppeteer. he lets everyone think claudio's dead and for what. fucking deranged!!

the end of the play has the duke proposing marriage to isabella: her most important religious values mean nothing to him. angelo and isabella have their own beliefs, however self-flagellating. the duke only believes in himself.

This is a great essay! I love this show because it allows Daenerys to be a fully formed and complex character, the likes of which most female characters in fantasy and even on television almost NEVER get to be. She feels like a real person because, like a real person, she isn’t all good or all bad.

Emilia Clarke has really hit it out of the park with her performance, getting us to love Dany and then fear her.

This is a great character--one of the best female characters I’ve ever seen on television and I’m so glad the show had the guts to let Dany break bad, as she was always destined to do.

sooo how do you feel about the whole mad queen thing?

Well, like much in the last half of this series, the set up has been rushed and clumsy and occasionally ridiculous.

But given all the crap they have to deal with— time constraints plus two dozen other characters; quickly trying to connect dots that GRRM has been struggling to join for the better part of two decades; the fact that we live in an age where a staggering percentage of people have developed the inability to watch 30+ minutes of television without looking at their stupid phones and can barely follow the plot of of your average sitcom— I pity those poor bastards enough to cut them some slack on that front.

That aside, I’m happier with it than I thought I’d be. Because I don’t think she’s mad at all, at least not yet. She’s just broken and finally fed up with trying to control her ruthless side.

For a long time, I figured the show was going to wimp out and go about “dark D-ny” in the “safest” way possible: she’d spin out of control for an episode and a half at most then snap out of it in time to heroically sacrifice herself.

Gaspard de Coligny gives off major Ned Stark vibes.

Are we sure GRRM didn’t base his Song of Ice and Fire/A Game of Thrones on the French Wars of Religion as well as the English Wars of the Roses? The French Wars of Religion already have a guy who’s missing a nose, another guy who is missing an arm/hand (replaced by an iron arm instead of a golden hand), and it has a wedding far more brutal than the Red Wedding. Seriously, if you love ASoIaF/GOT, please go read about the French Wars of Religion. They’re so similar! And the French history has a more satisfying ending (Henri IV > Bran).

Ceresi only wishes she was as good at being bad as Catherine de Medici.

Joker (2019) is not an encouragement of violence, it does not condone its main character’s actions; what Joker is, is a cautionary tale to a society that idolizes those that step on those weaker than them. It does not say that the little guy should rise up but it does say that if we do not start taking care of each other those above will “get what they fuckin’ deserve”

“Oppenheimer should at least represent Japanese voices” actual Japanese filmmakers have made dozens of movies about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, including at least two anime films off the top of my head, that you would’ve bothered to watch if you actually cared about this beyond winning discourse points. Not to mention all the Japanese science fiction that is obviously inspired in some way by trauma over the bombing, including the entire genre of kaiju films. Do you really think there's anything those works haven't said that Christopher Nolan would add? Or maybe, in fact, the lack of focus there in Oppenheimer is The Point, since the real-life Manhattan Project (which the film is critical of) certainly wasn't consulting "Japanese voices"? Anyway, In This Corner of the World is a great film about the life of a young woman from Hiroshima in the waning days of WWII that you can currently rent for $1.99 on Amazon Prime. It's animated by the same studio that did Yuri!!! on Ice and it's based on a 3-volume manga that is also terrific and available both physically and digitally in English. If you actually want fiction that depicts "Japanese voices on the atomic bomb" I would start there. If you actually care about diverse perspectives in media you'd also care about the people making that media and look to what actual Japanese people are saying about this rather than expecting American and British creators to spoon-feed it to you.
